Checked out a few other posts in other threads. Between 'crazy' and 'troll', troll seems more likely imo. Wonder what admin/mods have been thinking all this time?

Yup, another nutcase, I think. I sometimes wonder if these fora are recommended as therapy for such people.

Why do you think that? Don't you realize that masses in a gravitational field accelerate? What could possibly prevent the bullet from accelerating towards earth?

Well it sure aint therapy for those who choose to take the bait! I chose troll over crazy after studying his OP here: http://www.sciforums.com/threads/too-many-chefs.158552/
Seems too coherent and well versed for a true crazy. But I suppose there are crazies and then again, there are crazies. Still going for troll as best fit though.

    Bullet inside gun is
    • traveling at speed of train
    • prevented from falling to Earth by being in the gun
    Bullet fired

    Bullet is now
    • traveling at the speed of the train
    • plus the speed given to it via the exploding propellant (muzzle velocity)
    • and being free of the gun able to fall to Earth (describing a parabolic arc)
Depending on the height of the gun's attachment to the train (in the region of 2 to 3 metres?) the bullet would indeed begin to accelerate towards Earth under the influence of gravity

It would also continue its forward momentum from the exploding propellant and most likely hit the ground before all the forward momentum have been expended causing it to form a small furrow

    Here endith my post

    And much of my patience

I sat in on a few psychiatric sessions with patients during training

    Net not around then

Now I would not recommend these forums for patients therapy

I might recommend them for student psychiatrists for spot the nut case remote diagnosis

...as for a bullet leaving a gun...when firing at a moving target you rotate the gun WITH the target. It hit's (providing it is accurate) because the gun is rotating at the same rate (and angle) as the target.

    Other tips on weapons training:

Fire short controlled bursts with an automatic weapon: if you are on target then you have hit, if not it is a waste of ammunition.

Count the number of bullets fired and know how many are in a magazine (both you and your target.)

Jeeze you think your patience is running thin...

MR's original question (which was quoted in my response) was:

"Suppose I shot a bullet towards earth from a high flying airplane. Would the bullet:
    A. Keep speeding towards earth at the same speed it left the barrel?
    B. Speed up as it approaches earth?
C, Slow down as it approaches earth?
    D. Stop suddenly at 10,000 feet?"

I answered the the bullet would slow down to terminal velocity.

MR then asked (which was quoted in my response):

"How about if it was in a vacuum?"

I answered that the bullet would speed up.

I do not know why you are talking about trains and stuff but that has nothing to do with the original question.

When I was in the Navy if we misread a question on a test the grader would write RTFQ. So I say to you RTFQ.

Ha, when I was in Shell, looking after standards in oil plant operations, we would often have occasion to say to people RTFM, in which M stood for Manual.

I see problems with your posts:

Abbreviations: the first letters of words indicating you have just walked into the room.
Bad language: your mother would be most displeased with this.

I do not expect you to EVER understand these points so please continue.

Are you stupid, is that the problem?
You told me (in post #15) that my answer to MR was wrong when in fact it was the correct answer. I realize my answer to MR's question can not be applied to other random questions. Do you understand that?

I said it was wrong because it was wrong

Bullet fired in a vacuum would not speed up

    Nor would it slow down

It would retain its muzzle velocity forever

You are either unable to follow the conversation or are just not educated enough to realize the correct answer, either way you are not worth the time and effort.
    Ignore...
