Wasn't there some summary wandering around the Twittersphere about how over the past 10 years there have been an average of 2 deaths per year by Islamic jihadist immigrants? According to this there were 5 deaths per year by far right-wing terrorists, and 9 per year by all Islamic jihadist terrorists (including those terrorists who were also US citizens). So yeah, 16 avoidable deaths a year by closing borders to possible terrorists, but one would also need to ban the Internet to stop the home-grown variety from spreading. Oh, and there were 21 deaths per year by "armed toddlers". But no ban on guns. Lightning caused 31 deaths per year (not sure how many on golf courses, but I'd ban those on principle any way). Lawnmowers accounted for a whopping 69 deaths per year, but still no ban. Buses caused 264 per year... And most surprising of all: falling out of bed apparently caused 737 deaths per year over the same period. So someone in the US is almost 50 times more likely to die from falling out of bed than by a terrorist, so you close the borders, implement "extreme vetting" etc? As for the right to bear arms: being shot by another American apparently accounted for 11,737 deaths per year. Ah, gun control. Gotta love it!
No argument with your stats I'm guessing (my second favourite pastime) many of the deaths might be contenders for the Darwin Award Hard passing laws to regulate stupidity The 16 who didn't die of stupidity might have a different take on border security As might family and friends As for gun control as I just mentioned hard to regulate stupidity
Harder still to accept laws passed by those the stupid voted for. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Of course. Any preventable death is tragic. But people don't generally cut off their nose just because they have a cold. One argument I heard regarding this last stat is that it doesn't tell how many deaths were prevented because of the right to bear arms. Not the toddlers', that's for sure.
Now your being obtuse, what part are you agreeing with? Because only the part about them having extensive records on their population is correct. Judge overrides. Don't you think it strange that the country whose nationals have made up the majority of terrorist in major US terror attacks, is an ally? Can you elaborate on what "Extreme vetting" entails? Finally: how many deadly terror attacks here in the USA have been done by Iranians, in fact by anyone from those seven nations?
Thanks, I wanted him to answer that question though. Michael 345, Imagine Trump demanded cars from several car companies be recalled because the seat-belts might be defective, when in fact there is no evidence of that and the company that does produces most of the defective seat-belts is not on the list. Would not the damage done be forcing people to return their cars for unnecessary repairs out do what ever protection is provided by replacing perfectly good seat-belts with perfectly good seat-belts? ... don't answer that spidergoat.
American companies are very concerned about Trump's recent executive order banning immigration. Goldman Sachs, Apple, and even the Koch brothers have come out against Trump's action. I think Trump was surprised by the reaction to his executive order. It has been widely denounced by other countries, businesses, and Americans. I don't think Trump was expecting it. He has been defending it for more than 2 days now. I think he has confused his base with the American people and common sense. Trump has been using executive orders as public relations releases. This one had real consequences, and I don't think Trump expected it. After all Trump wants to be idolized. Now his small base may continue to idolize him, but for most of the world Trump isn't an idol, and I think that bothers Trump. He will never admit he has made a mistake, but clearly he has and a big one. It was ill conceived and poorly executed.
All the more reason to begin refugee resettlement in Australia. One wonders, why were Australians trying to shirk their duty as 'World Citizens' - particularly given how much Australians have gained off the sales of wheat and beef to past tyrants, and their participation in the war. #islanddetentioncenters Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
What with the H1-B1 VISAs used to replaced American workers with 'skilled immigrants', I'm can imagine, they probably are pretty unhappy. Not that it matters, nothing Trump or any other person does is going to refloat the Titanic AFTER it's hit the iceberg.
US acting attorney general says justice department will not defend Trump immigration curbs in court http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-38805343 A big story?
https://www.cato.org/publications/policy-analysis/terrorism-immigration-risk-analysis It is interesting to see the details of where our terror attacks have come from vs what countries the ban applies to... Neat that it doesn't fucking help at all, and in fact exempts our biggest supposed dangers!
I'm sure Trump will put some sycophant in the vacant Supreme justice position that will fight to do whatever Trumpkin wants...
Can Trump count on the Supreme Court? They are not his appointees ,are they even if he did top up the vacant position?
I think he can. Four of the 8 are reliable Republicans, and Republicans almost always put party before country. They usually vote Republican regardless of the facts.
