It seems there are some beliefs that have it that we can live forever if we go to some place like heaven.

I am not convinced that heaven exists but it has caused me to wonder what it may be like living forever.

I hope the body stops aging and the mind remains such that you can remember stuff and maybe experience emotion and if this is not so I imagine living forever would not be fun at all.

So let's assume you stay reasonably functional can you imagine living for ever?
What long long term plans would you make?
Learn all languages, learn all musical instruments... what?

    Would you get board.

I imagine there there are other planets , and there are work to do for angels, and if you become an angel , sure you will not sit and twirls you thoms . If you will will have the same kind of body you will have to feed it and you will sheet, If the body will be of different nature you will not need to eat and sheet.

Eternal life seems like a shitty deal for boards and sheets.

    I'll opt out, thanks.

Living forever would actually be fun and exciting as long as it's not in the same place. I couldn't imagine living on this planet forever. That would be kind of silly.

I think if I could live forever, I'd want to be able to purge some baggage.
I'm not sure I'd want to live forever being the same person I am now, with all my foibles, fears, failures and inhibitions.
There's something about youth that makes everything possible, and something about age that closes a lot of doors.

    well, that's kind of depressing...

One example: I have lost interest in a lot of new things that come out. Twitter, snapchat, identity-sharing, music, movies, all sorts of stuff that has progressed over time, while my principles haven't. I have an ever-growing list of things to which I say 'been there, done that, no thanks.'

Things are a lot more possible when you don't know how hard they're going to be. Like learning a musical instrument. Or calculus.

    I find your observation interesting.
I have always thought things would be harder in fact I have been near put off trying things but I found that things are easier when I get into it.
Maybe my expectations are set low so any achievement makes me happy.
I think to hold off old age you must avoid the urge not to try new things.
I have had a shake up yesterday with a visit to folk I have not seen for over a decade.
They all have become old, their attitudes are frozen, they all seemed bitter and without joy.
I think not being around folk growing old has helped me avoid it...mentally and to a degree physically.
None of them play their instruments any more or draw or cook fancy meals.
I play my guitars every day, I play chess every day and most days draw or design things.
I mean if you stop being interested in stuff you are likely to start going down hill.
I have even been thinking of getting a sports car which is silly but I have seen something I like and it is cheap.
Not to impress anyone just cause it appeals.
It has no doors and is real low so with my legs I may not be able to get out of it, getting in I think I can do.
But I would not even drive it fast so its crazy.
But I think I should get it out of my system before I decide to settle down and raise another family.
I will be 70 in only a couple of weeks so maybe I should settle down.
Just kidding but you need to have stuff to look forward to otherwise everything becomes just work.
I like building things so each day I am eager to get the next part of the project completed.

I once (about age 12) was of the impression you lived for ever in heaven, you knew everything and spent your time (forever???) sitting at the feet of god singing his praises.

At least that is how Sunday School presented heaven.

Didn't hear anything about angels having jobs and have only seen them depicted as eye candy in backgrounds or blowing trumpets.

Hell was scary and not a place you would want to go to, except it might cross your mind when it was freezing outside.

Of course when I heard about those who could talk to the dead I knew the cloud sitting was a lie.

You would just hang around waiting to chat in cryptic ways to your descendants and friends if any of them bothered to go to psychic.

Pssst now you have revealed your age I know I am older than you.

My hobbies are finding ways to be lazy and reading.

Activities are shopping and going to Bali for shopping.

    Cheers.

The idea of living forever in this world sounds like a 'be careful what you wish for, you may get it' scenario, meaning you are not aware of the cons just the pros.

The same shit forever? I dont know..

But also one lifetime is often too short to do or learn all you may want to as well as even mature. But it is way too long if life is hard or miserable. The idea of a longer life is appealing in maybe wanting to reverse mistakes, decisions or the past etc.

I think the real root motivation for wanting to live forever besides regrets we want to fix or things we still may want to do but cant either due to old age, illness etc stems from a fear of death or unconsciousness as consciousness exists a sense of control. We want to always know or have some security.

Yikes!! That sounds like a hell in and of itself. At least here on Earth there is a variety.

Yeah that would a no for me. I mean, I understand why people fantasize about living forever, mostly because of this fear of this so-called event we label as "death". But hell, even though there is a variety of things to do and experience on this planet, I would think after about a thousand years or maybe less I would most likely say to myself, "Ok it is waaay past time to move on beyond this place."

For myself personally I have no concern about safety or security. I'm more interested in freedom.

Nar. Hell was of the fire and brimstone variety.

Uncle George showed me a brochure depiction hell. At least that is what I thought he was showing me. I might have been mislead as I had overheard grandma telling Mum George had sold his soul to the Devil.

He'd taken money from a friend for booze.

The brochure did show people eating drinking, dancing and enjoying themselves.

Mum said it was a holiday camp but if it was hell the people must be on a break just for publicity shots.

I will live forever. My DNA has melded with beer yeast - I will taste the same until the end of times (brewed not stirred).

I don't think so. And learning languages or instruments isn't even on my list. Maybe it would be.

I sometimes feel bored but it comes from being bound in a routine around someone else such that my usual activities are put out of wack.
I like to go to bed when I like and get up when I like so if I have an appointment that throws me out. I have to go to bed at a certain time get up at a certain time and if that happens a couple of days in a row I feel like someone else is running my life, I slow up on drawing, guitar etc and I really feel sortta bored.
But if I have no other humans to fit in I do my thing and get involved run til I drop get up when I feel like it, or not, eat when or if I feel like it.
So if left alone I think I could be happy forever.
I don't have any regrets about the mistakes I have made, I learnt things so there is no point in feeling guilty because you screwed up a few times.
I could have been better with money so I may not be able to afford living forever. I certainly would not want to live forever if I have to work for someone.
