I put a warning in the title because i we should not take these things lightly and i will go full out on this.

Documentary called 'Science Finds God?' has recently been uploaded to youtube, as intriguing as it sounds its actually full of fucking shit even in first 30 seconds. Why am i so mad?
It is building up on premesis that guy who is a programmer and has an IQ of 140 has suddently became 100 times more intelligent, because he has went through the 'mysterious' four steps. So lets do the calculations 140x100 = 140000 IQ now? It makes absolutely NO SENSE.
At the begging they are indicating how Einstein also had this belief which again is total utter nonsense.
Not once did Einstein say anything about Science finding God or logic being the God.

If it is good enough to be put on utube it must be true.
Folk get attention better with outrageous claims than mundane truth.
So are we all to look at it so we can conclude its crap but in the process drive up the views.
Mind you I feel smarter already by not getting caught.

Nitpick: 2x more intelligent does not necessarily equate to doubling the IQ. No need to compound the problem by taking it so literally.

    Mod Note

This does not belong in Human Science.

A few things about this "documentary". It is trying (badly) to build upon the theme of neurotheology, which is a field that, in basic terminology, attempts to connect the brain to religious experiences.

Secondly, the video appears to be click-bait. It is basically a video that attempts to convert others. It lacks information and provides just enough to try to hook people in. It doesn't provide the actual supposed 4 steps. A quick dive into the various links from Athene's videos saw me enter the deep and dark world of Athene's lunacy and ego.

Thirdly, by the end of the video, it is clear that this is a religious video, attempting to preach about 'turning to God', as though this will somehow make one more intelligent. It talks about "our creation", by God. And how giving oneself to "god" can somehow make one smarter. The God, however, is Athene. The video is aimed at attempting to convert young people (hence the many gaming references at the start - which makes sense because of how Athene became 'famous') to the religion of Athene. He then attempts to turn his movement into a religion of sort. A look through the various links shows him connecting people like Einstein, Carl Sagan to Baruch Spinoza.. Enough said there, really.

The danger of Athene's videos become darker though, when you look at what he is actually doing.

    The Cult..

In short, the video itself can only be described as proselytising. Terrifyingly, the man's wiki that he created specifically for this project (linked in his video) encourages people to come and live and work with him in Germany - aka like it is a cult (and I mean that literally - his movement is preaching to get people to give him their money and live with him after he approves their application of course and he will control what you eat (low protein vegetarian food), what you wear, what you do, how you think.. Then of course comes the many videos where he preaches about how he intends to help others with his movement - ending all poverty in 5 years if enough join his 'movement' is a popular theme). Actually, it isn't like a cult.

Athene is creating an actual cult. Sadly, because of his fame as a gamer, he is able to spread his message quite well.

Athene was (and still is) a gamer. He builds up a reputation in whatever online game he plays (he tends to favour WoW). The man has a huge ego and he is proselytising through the build up of fans he has in the gaming community. Which is dangerous when one considers where he is going with this now. The various people who appeared in his video (and other videos) are also gamers. Fairly well known ones at that. That is how he draws younger people in.

Other gamers are striking back. One released a video, breaking down Athene's messages that he podcasts when playing WoW, where he preaches and tells his viewers how he is the second coming, the most intelligent, where he will save the world and tells people to join him in Germany.. It's a funny look at Athene's messages and comments, but it also shows the dark side of it. That this is very much a cult.

I am sorry Goliathus, this thread does not fit into Human Science. I will move it to Free Thoughts.

14,000, not 140,000. I wonder how an IQ that high could possibly be measured. My understanding is that most conventional IQ tests used by professional psychologists are only normed up to about IQ 160. There are individuals who boast of having much higher IQs than that. But these people typically claim to have had their IQs measured by non-standard methods, sometimes of their own creation. I don't give it a lot of credence.

Athene is not as charismatic as Jim Jones.

He is well known in gaming circles and especially amongst those who play WoW. He started off live streaming while playing and getting sponsors and he made quite a bit of money out of it. Then he started drawing people in by donating (allegedly) a lot of the money he made to charities. He had started spouting the pseudo religious BS in his videos and he literally started to lose his mind, because he started to believe what he was saying about himself. You can literally see the descent into madness by watching his videos.

His gaming videos soon became these lectures, which mostly focused on his self promotion about how great he is, how intelligent he is, how he can save the world and then over the last few months, asking for others to join him in Germany, where he moved to from France, and some have. It is now clear that he is or has started a cult of sort. Of like minded people (gamers) who believe that only he and they can change and save the world. The whole 'click' thing is a gimmick to draw people in.

But he isn't charismatic enough. Which is why he keeps posting with very young and attractive female gamers, who sit there telling the viewers that they would not date or sleep with any guy who was not a part of their little group.

Good to see we are on same page. This guy is saying how science can solve everything. Sure it can also bring even more bad to the world. (Nuclear weapons, vaccines)

    Ummm Science finds God

Can we ask science to tell the Pope where he is please?

I understand he is his biggest fan and I'm sure he would like his autograph.

He might ask him also to authenticate the Turin Shroud as well as the millions of other bits and bobs of JC lying around.

Shussss I suspect some of them are not real but are kept as donated income leading the good life while spreading the word.

Wait a minute!!!!!! There was NO mention of WHICH God Science found.

Arrrrrr get me out of here.

What he is actually saying is that he and his logic (because he is so intelligent, etc) can solve everything. Discovering God through science though him, etc..

Look, the man has lost his mind. He's bought/rented a former old people's home in Germany and is trying to get fellow gamers to join his cult. Older gamers who remember him from years ago, are just pointing out that he has lost his mind and that this is wrong. The issue for many is that he is targeting young and vulnerable people.. People who don't generally socialise much, are introverts and into gaming. He's selling them all sorts of utter rubbish - such as joining him or "clicking" will increase one's IQ (if you follow his "logic" steps, all roads lead to him), get women to sleep them, save the world, etc. Which is what has so many familiar with him so concerned.

It is bogus. The issue now is whether he is doing this for real - by which I mean if he really has fallen into his own trap/hole or if he is doing this as a means to make more money or a mixture of both.

Oh how I wish I was GOD.

I would not really interfere with the human race much.

Just a tiny tiny ittsy bittsy little bit. But it would remove 99% of human problems.

Really it's nothing. Just a tiny tweek.

I would ban all religion, inoculate everyone 100% from catching religion, add the no religion gene to the immune system and ensure this gene never never ever gets scrambled and is always always for ever and ever passed on until ETERNITY ends.

There I've said it. Is that so bad a tweek.

Might even do it to the Genesis life forms just starting out.

Hiho hiho it's off to work I go.

Ummmm should I be worried about the 1% left Politicians, Lawyers, Accountants and Advertising agents?

Nah got to give the unwashed rabble SOMETHING and SOMEONE to complain and fight over.

The reason cult leaders are so effective is, they genuinely believe what they say. People can sense conviction, versus con, especially over time. Claiming to be the second coming of Christ is not the same as believing this to be the case. People, who accept this, want to believe but will also have doubts until they see the conviction in action and deeds.

For example, with man made global warming there are two camps of thinking, with members of both sides feeling conviction, even though only one of the two options can be true. Which is the cult? Both sides will say the other side s wrong and crazy, reinforcing their own conviction and resolve as the holy people. With the second coming, humans are divided into two sides helping to animate the conviction in the followers.

Many years ago, I did research, on myself, with the unconscious mind. There was a point, several years into the research, where the symbolism of religion started to come to life, as my brain started to use these symbols; command lines, to rearrange brain potential to release repression. This was very compelling because the release of potential was so invigorating, that you can begin to believe.

I was lucky. My personal circumstances were in decline, so I was not able too use the unconscious charisma to influence others; people judge by prestige. The reason was, if you use the unconscious conviction, to get others on board, when the internal process has reached its end, external pressures from the followers can make it more difficult to step off the conveyer belt. It is sort of like the aged ball player, which the fans love and remember from his prime. Since he needs this for himself and for his followers, he may start to fabricate ways to increase potential; performance enhancements. The result is one can linger too long, to where you start to do internal damage to the brain's firmware. This can result in you going over the edge. This is often reflected in cult degeneration that precedes mass suicide.

I saw this and was able to get off the conveyer at the right time, leading to the next phase of the drama. In prophesy tradition, one is supposed to follow whatever is occurring; internal drive, until the very end, and then start the next stage.

"If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity they will go. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword they will be killed." This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God's people.

    False.

    Some might.
    Many do not.
I think there is evidence of such, though I d not have access to it at this time.
