Just wondering if anyone on here shaves with a straight razor?

I do it from time to time just to learn how to do it well (no point other than that). I follow up with a double edge razor if I'm not doing such a good job.

I'd like to be able to do an entire shave with a straight razor that is as good as I'm able to do with a double edge razor.

Just wondering if anyone else is afflicted with this disease?

Why would anyone shave at all?
But if I must, I'd rather have the less lethal implement to hand.

Ahhh, the everlasting question. Hairy-beast or not? I clean my razor with an old toothbrush to prolong it's existence.

    I often ponder this question.
Surely, artificially altering one's appearance is the definition of vanity and affectation.

For me though, I find that I need to. Once my beard grows to about an inch, my neck starts to get quite itchy and irritated. I have to shave to relieve it.
The cruel irony of course, is that shaving my neck makes it itchy and irritated.

There are modern oldie-timey men's barber shops opening in my city - where you can get the full hot towel and straight razor treatment (too bad it's overrun with hipsters.) I went for the full treatment until I remembered how irritated my skin can get when shaved too close.

There is are no more old-timey men, you and everyone else in there is a hipster.

If you live in most jurisdictions in the U.S. you also aren't getting a traditional straight razor shave. They use a "shavette" which is just something that looks like a straight razor but actually has a replaceable blade affixed to the end.

Not shaving because it's an affectation makes as much sense as not dressing or showering because it's not "natural"

I assume you like your women hairy as well?

If I said I'm a hipster I'd get laughed out of the place.
I'm more in the Get off my lawn! demographic.

Maybe we igloo-builders need a more serious razor. Dunno.

    Quite the opposite.
There is an objective reason to shower and dress - to get clean and not smell, and so as not to drive the women mad, respectively.
The only reason to shave or not shave (presuming you keep it clean), is because you want to.

As a matter of fact, the sexiest woman I ever dated did not shave her legs**.

** yes, everybody else found her sexy too, not just me

** no, she wasn't more sexy because she didn't shave. She was sexy because she was a real Ruby Tuesday - free spirit and all that.

Mine never gets to anywhere near an inch, for the same reasons.
Never had a beard in my life.

Here's the secret: after three inches, it stops itching. Becomes softer and keeps your neck warm.
I don't care whether anyone shaves or not. The only things I find annoying are deliberate stubble (talk about affectation! shave every day to look as if you had forgotten to) those stupid tiny indecisive goatees (like my odious son-in-law wears ) and people who conform (either way) by choice and then bitch about it.

I've never had a beard either. After about a week I can't take it anymore. Also, at this point, I'm old

and more white hair doesn't help anything.

I go a few days up to a week without shaving sometimes but usually I just shave every day.

I agree that those little "line" beards/goatee's look kind of silly to me but to each their own.

Without shaving your hair will grow indefinitely. If you break your razor beyond repair your hair will grow, and grow, and grow...

Luckily, some clever-boots has invented a nifty gadget called scissors.

    Here is my next question:
How did the Assyrians manage those beautifully sculpted coiffures with bronze spring shears?
    Corollary:
Is that why the Hebrews were forbidden to shape their beards and commanded to look like Xelasnave.1947 ?
