What comes after knowledge is wisdom. Knowledge can be memorized, while wisdom is based on ingenuity applied to knowledge.

For example, the layman carpenter can look at books as to how to install a door. He can learn and memorize a procedure for this. Wisdom allows one to apply this basic knowledge in ways, it was not originally laid out when learned. The master carpenter can install doors, even in situations, he never saw in any book. There is no need for new knowledge, in books, since his wisdom generates what is needed for the new situation.

With wisdom comes less need for new knowledge. Going from knowledge to wisdom shifts thinking from the left brain to right brain. The right brain is more spatial and is able to self generate the knowledge based on previous patterns in the left brain. If one is only left brain, you need to keep adding new externally generated patterns as each time new situations arise.

What is the difference between wisdom and learning -and collating - from (lots of) experience (s) ?

Am I correct in reading a note of criticism into that, a hint that the original question was somehow foolish or inappropriate?

In my opinion this is one of the better threads that I've seen on Sciforums in some time and I thank Wegs for starting it.

I think that having some sense of whether human cognition might have limits and where those limits might lie, is inherently of great interest. (To me, anyway.) It's also fascinating to think about how well reality lends itself to knowing by beings like us.

These kind of questions are obviously relevant to the sort of broader world-views that people hold.

No, you are not correct. That's why I made the last statement in my original post.

Knowledge seems to be a gathering of facts, information, etc through study and experience while wisdom is the ability to look at the knowledge and make sense of it, quickly. And to discern what information is necessary to hold onto. That's how I personally view it. I wonder if it is a fair thing to say that someone could be very knowledgeable, but unwise?

I think that's a fair thing to say although I think as a practical matter more knowledge generally contributes to sagacity rather than hinders it. There are very educated people however who just happen not to have common sense or who have some other personality defeats that distort their judgement or actions. It's the exception rather than the rule I would think however.

Well knowledge/sensory input comes in units (of different "sizes" perhaps ,admittedly) but these units stick together and form "informational organisms" which again clump together.

With time that is learned experience.

So what is wisdom and how does it differ from this accumulation of knowledge?

Very much the same thing but I would say that it may also incorporate societal learning (which of course brings the emotions and feelings or sentiments into the "equation" )

But really I would say that "wisdom" is a loaded description and brings to mind pictures of "wise elders" . We surely know that this can be a misleading picture and can substitute the saying "no fool like an old fool" to remind us of that.

    Bingo!
I'm not really sure how knowledgable I am [that's up to my peers] but I certainly have been told I should not take on the trolls and cranks as much as I do.

Probably because in my life so far I have had three major issues with bullies [one actually when my Son was around 5 years old] and I find it far more fruitful and necessary to be right up in their faces.
Total success was achieved in all three, but that's another issue.
    Nice truism post.

In about the 3rd grade i knew to stay from "Red"... he was a couple years older an much bigger than the rest of us an he wasnt quite right in the head... but on my way home from school one day some kids was playin on a big dirt pile an i joined in... Red seemed in a good mood so i let down my guard an got to close to him an got a busted lip for my efforts... i went back to avoidin Red an life was good.!!!

Around the same year a big kid i didnt know hollered at me from a little rental house as i was walkin down the road an said... dont look at me... he then started walkin beside me down the road an was actin very weird... i sinsed that he was very dangerous so i started talkin to him (he was easly confused) to change the discussion... told him that the lady down the road woud give candy to anybody that asked (it was horrible lemon drops... lol)... so i kept him distracted wit the candy an finaly made it to the Ladys front porch an as soon as the kid set down i ran across the road to my house an locked the door.!!! I didnt walk in front of his house anymore an about a mounth later he was gone an life was good.!!!

Around the same year a big older kid was tryin to teech his cousin how to fight an chose me to be his victim to learn on... he didnt want to fight anymore than i did but big kid kept pushin us into each other an said he woud beat us both up if we didnt fight... so i hit the kid in the face... he started cryin... then i was blindsided by the big kid who pushed me so hard i landed across the ditch in a nabors yard... an luckly the nabors came runnin out to my defence... an even so it took a bit or arguin even for the adults to run the big kid off. btw... that big kid is now a preecher in my home town... lol.!!!

In about the 7th grade a big bully kid a couple of years older woud challenge other kids to trade licks... which was to take turns hittin each other on the shoulder until one gave up... an he always won.!!!
He was anuther one i avoded but in between classe in the hallway thar he was an said lets trade licks... an if you refused he woud hit you anyhow... so i went for it, an after a few rounds he asked if i wanted to switch shoulders (rule was... if both agreed you coud switch shoulders)... an i never saw anybody refuse to switch... but i said no an after a couple of more hits he quit... said we woud be late for class... lol... but he never challenged me agan to trade licks

About the same year a new kid from texas wit some boxin experience was rackin up a reputation by beatin up other kids... well after a snowball fight got out of hand he punched me in the noise an the blood was flowin... but i coudnt get any traction on the icy parkin lot an he easily dodged my punches... so finaly i lunged forward an grabed his coat an got him in a headlock to the ground an held the side of his face in a slushy puddle of water... an a couple of minutes later he was hollerin let me up... my ear is freezin... but i wasnt about to let him up... an then all the sudden the teecher/bus driver was pullin at my coat collar sayin brake it up... so i let go.!!!

The moral of some of my experences is that standin up to a bully ant always the best.!!!

Knowledge could not be infinite, information would be forgotten. Gold can be infinite, but not treasures. Importance would be finite, unless its punitive. Love would have to abide to its memory, and this volume.

I've never heard the idea of infinity explained like this. Infinity (in my view) is incomprehensible.

What does "un pleasurable " actually mean ? It sounds pornographic (or anti pornographic) but I am guessing that is not what kx000 has in mind.

Infinity ,I understand means or implies broadly "without an end"

"Un pleasurable" could mean having to take that quiz again, in that one thread.

    And therefore, challenging to comprehend.

infinity of knowledge just makes sense .

where you are in that spectrum of knowledge is up to you .

If we are looking for circular questions then what is "knowledge" ?(never mind infinities or otherwise of it)

Can we have a singular piece of knowledge or does every piece of knowledge have to be part of a network?

Can there be such a thing as a potential piece of knowledge without possibility of ever gaining it?

Is all knowledge ephemeral? Is knowledge intrinsically good and ignorance bad?

Can knowledge be self evident? Who knows
