No. We're talking about an aberration where someone is sexually aroused by something not sexual, but in fact quite harmful.

To pretend they are Not Our Problem is copping out of our responsibility.

No one is saying that but pretending that they are not ill, isn't the answer. And as a society, we also have a responsibility to protect kids, and those who can't speak out for themselves.

We certainly do. And no one has said otherwise.

 

That's what you're missing. The domination, hurt, and pain they cause their victims is what is arousing to them. No one is pretending they're not our problem, but would you try to help a drug addict to get off drugs, or would you just give them clean needles to continue doing drugs? The latter is the easier move, not necessarily a responsible one.

 

Now you're talking about what we would do to help them with their illness.

How about a cultural acceptance of providin dolls to pedofiles... which woud cause fewer actual children to be harmed.???

 

Unintended consequences can be a bitch. But I don't think you or I or anyone not prone to aberrant behavior this is going to say, "Hey, Bob has a child sex doll so I guess it's okay!". I do think we tend to view crime, especially crimes like pedophilia, as the product of evil and not a problem of brain chemistry and physiology, when the latter may be the case. Maybe by treating violent crime pragmatically, and not morally, we can slowly bring it to an end.

If you have to ask how anyone can do something so horrible as X Y and Z, the answer must be, they are different; either due to environment or genetics.

Psychopaths are far more common than we ever knew. They are born that way. But they are prone to violent behavior mainly if they were abused themselves.

 

Pedophilia includes minors. A female pedophile teacher attracted to a 15 year old boy may not necessarily have sadistic intentions. It is not necessarily a specific desire to harm - even if harm is the inevitable outcome. They are screwed up, no question, but that does not necessarily mean they want to hurt.

 

No one is talking about evil. I said above, I don't believe in evil. What most likely causes it, studies have shown, is that many pedophiles and rapists had abusive childhoods, some sexually abusive. That's where it stems from. No one is born a rapist. No one is born a pedophile.

Yes. Which is why, as a society, it behooves us to examine it rationally and - in the appropriate context - dispassionately.

 

I do not think that dolls would be a good idea.

But some people become sexually abusive even with normal upbringings. There's no one magic bullet.
