Most people would call that "robbery," not "burglary."
Indeed; depending on the details, it can be "assault."
It will be difficult to estimate the number of robberies and assaults that are foiled by any means--guns, other weapons, martial arts, trained dogs, etc. How do we determine how many crimes of any type are foiled by the the victim?

Many victims are, themselves, violating the law when they're attacked. These people are hardly going to report the incidents to the police.

    Case in point...
Gun control ≠ Making guns illegal

But that's the mindset people take when we talk about gun control in this country.

Fixing the gun show loophole, and putting limits on the manufacturing of certain weapons, so weirdos and middle age men going through their midlife crisis can't afford to buy these things like candy in a checkout line, simply doesn't register in people's mind when they hear the word "control"...

It doesn't matter though its a dead issue. It's far too late to do anything sensible due to the amount of guns that have been manufactured already.

The power of words may need to be addressed.

Rather than talk about "gun control" could we not talk about "laws to enshrine the right to bear arms" and "laws to protect gun owners safety" or perhaps "laws to prevent terrorist ownership of guns".

I won't search the thread right now, but just point out that "gun control" is hitting what you aim at, and nothing else.

That is also the apparent agenda of vocal and influential faction of the gun control advocates, and the immediate implication of a large fraction of the "arguments" advanced in support of gun control measures. So its appearance as a "mindset" is not a mystery.

    Yep.

And if no one minds a little dive into pop culture, there's this:

I don't generally like rap, but this is a gem.

Q: How many NRA supporters does it take to change a light bulb?
    A: More guns.

How old is that one? No, seriously. To the one, I haven't heard a good light bulb joke in years; to the other, I've never heard that one. How the hell did I miss it?

probably dates to sometime after the revolt of Cincinnati so i'd say around 35 years at the oldest.

Saw it on a car today in Sydney.... Twice in one
day. And I thought it was original... If it was its gone viral.

My son's brother has an embossed metal sign to that effect. I'd guess it's 5 or 6 years old by now..
