Thoughts Worth Sharing(first post and first forum intro)

I have very little experience reading forums, and absolutely none starting a thread or even commenting on one.
This is very unfamiliar so i considered starting in "random thoughts" dedicating my first attempt to asking for some specific advice. But i feel i'll find more like-minded people in here.

It's probably necessary first,to go off topic quickly, and then I'll get to it.
This being my first crack at this, i dont know if there are standard expectations or a general etiquette other than what i find apparent. I'll apologize right now for any ignorance. Just inform me of my mistake, give me a little guidance, please just be cool about it. This isnt a "teach me how to forum" topic, i want advice when needed, not a crash course.

I'm a firm believer in science and what it shows us about our universe. Sometimes i think there's is an almighty Creator, but never the religious Gods

i have alot of trouble explaining this to people in my life..... i find it fun to imagine the world with different perceptions, but not committing to those realities. its actually a very insightful exercise. religion is a filter i use sometimes, I dont believe in a god, but i dont disbelieve either.

 

Do you think there may be an afterlife for your soul or conscious self?

I'm not, at least in a religious sense. I have a very strong belief that natural science is humanity's best source of knowledge about how the natural world conducts itself. But I'm not in tune with those who seem to demand a religious-style faith in science as inerrant truth, turning "scientists" pronouncemnents into doctrines that must not ever be questioned by the lay public, who must unhesitatingly believe what they are told. I think that a little healthy public skepticism towards science is a good thing.

How would you distinguish between an "almighty Creator" and a "religious God"? How do you think they are they different?

I'm an atheist regarding the Bible's Yahweh, the Quran's Allah, the various deities of Hinduism and so on. I don't believe in their literal existence.

And I'm an agnostic regarding the more philosophical questions like what the universe's 'first cause' was (assuming it even had one), what sustains the universe in existence from moment to moment, and what logic and mathematics and the laws of physics are or why they exist in the first place. I don't have the answers to any of those questions and don't believe that anybody does.

Concerning "higher powers", I'm not sure what "higher" means. 'Higher' how? Simply more powerful? Morally better? Or holy and sacred in some uniquely religious sense that nobody can precisely define but many people believe they can kind of intuitively feel? What is the difference supposed to be between a super-powered space-alien and a god?

I don't believe in the existence of souls. And no, I don't believe that my consciousness will enjoy any kind of afterlife.

 

Thank you !! Let me say now, i DO NOT believe in what most people think of when they refer to God. I'm most familiar with the christian god so i'll use that to explain. The universe was contained in the singularity and expanded at the big bang and so and so forth, and i trust that theory to be absolute.
where i run into issues when discussing this, is people are a holes. atheists say christians are ignorant fools who believe in a silly guy in the sky, and christians say atheists are ignorant devil worshipers who are evil and blah blah blah.
When it's my turn to join i put it like this: The bible is wrong. it's packed with misinformation. It
is entirely a work of fiction. It was written in a time when it could be used to manipulate the world into giving away their money and living their lives more peacefully. The bible may be a work of fiction, but it is still a beautiful story with so much to offer people. Atheists always seem to think that they are superior in intellect then everyone else. i make it simple for them, just because there is no heaven or hell, doesnt mean that there isnt a God. We have no evidence proving one doesnt exist, and mathematically speaking, both believer and non believer are equal. 50/50 real or imagined. When people ask what i believe, i say nothing. for all i know the singularity came from Gods testicle. I'm not so pretentious to think that i have the answer. As for the difference in creator and religious God.... Religions always seem to have some sort of catch. youve got to live this way, you cant eat this food, you have to sacrifice this virgin, its always about earning the right to go to heaven or something of the sort. i don't believe anything of the sort. i think IF there's a god who created this universe, he's simply an explanation for what was before the big bang, like many other notions.
an almighty scientist with an ever expanding petri dish if you will.

 

and as for an afterlife, i have lots and lots of ideas, but none of them are based on being judged or involve earning a different destination.
More than likely the creativity of the human mind tricked itself into cheating death to feel better. survival of the human species insured.
I'm not sure where i stand, but a long term use of psychedelics has been extremely influential.

 

Ever wonder why all things die? Then why do certain things die in a matter of minutes while others can take thousands of years? Why would a god do this to things it made? Seems rather wasteful to me. That's just another reason I do not believe in such supernatural beings. Then one more thing, who made this god?

 

If theres a being..... if...... that had anything to do with the creation of our universe, i dont think that being would have anything to do with life and death. yes, all living things die, but i dont think theres some god out there choosing if they do or not. my idea of what God would be (when i imagine the possibilty as truth) is simply the answer to the big bang. thats all, everything after is as is and if hes watching, hes just watching.

may i ask, do you think multiverse theory has potential for truth? that there are many bubble like universes?

 

Seems rather odd that anything would make a universe and just watch to see what happens. Does it just want to watch things live and die just for its own amusement? Nope, I do not think this type of entity exists just to watch everything it made die away.

 

im not sure why life as we understand it here on earth would matter to this theoretical being, if it were like a scientist with a petri dish, we would be observed and thats it, the scientist doesnt love the bacteria.
its not a perfect parallel but the best i can do, for our imagined scenario here.

 

There are some things that scientists have determined that could allow for a multi universe theory. So far it still is only a theory but many are looking for ways to determine whether there are enough known facts to change it from theory to reality. Until more data can be learned they can't defiantly say it is real or not.

 

That's what religion is, just a belief, as to the way the universe started and how it is supposed to work with humans.

 

i dont believe any religious views nor do i claim there is a god. i merely pretend, in thought exercises, he exists but only as a being that does not contradict facts, only reasoning. i do understand its not probable, and that's exactly why i havent committed to the reality. but i havent committed to believing otherwise either. if he exists he is certainly not what any religion has depicted him to be. its hard for me to grasp the mutiverse theory myself, it's interesting, but i dont have more than basic knowledge of why its possible, and the implications. i was attempting another parallel. god as a child blowing universe bubbles. not literally, but in viewing it that way, you dont see god as the almighty being who controls life and death as religious groups have brainwashed you into seeing him. just a god making some universes and deeeeeeeeeeeep inside there tiiiiiiiiiiiiny apes figuring out exactly how the bubbles work.

 

I'd like for this post to be about anything and everything, to bounce ideas off each other and challenge each other to learn. it doesnt have to be about god. my username is just a name. i love reading the physics forums here but im not educated enough to participate, id get murdered there for proposing ideas that arent mathematically logical. i can handle being wrong and being told theres math to why. but i know better than to expect it be kindly. im here to see things differently and challenge my views. to have intelligent conversations. about literally almost anything. I'll defend adolf hitler and say that in his mind he was a hero and did nothing wrong. that he was courageous in standing up to the world for his beliefs, giving speeches to thousands, and taking on the responsibility of exterminating an entire group of humans from the world. But i dont believe a single bit of that in truth, hes evil and a coward and if you honestly think hes a hero youre a sick individual. im here to think.
