The team of researchers from Harvard developed new coating that condenses and collects water 10x faster than any other known material.
Inspired by a beetle's shell, a cactus spine, and the skin of a carnivorous plant, this slick, bumpy coating would be quite useful in any machine with a heat exchanger that relies on water collection for heat transfer, which is anything from a thermal power plant to a water distillation plant, or a humidification system and any HVAC system used in cars, trains, or airplanes. But researchers went one step further imagining this kind of condensation system being used simply for water collection on a moisture farm, such as the one on Tatooine where Luke Skywalker was raised.

That's nice, but wouldn't it affect environment by changing the weather elsewhere, i.e. where the vapor was originally traveling?

And again, as usual, the journo has sexed up the headline to say something false.

This material does NOT "suck" moisture out of the air, at all. That would require it to be hygroscopic, which it isn't.

All it is is a surface that is good at allowing water droplets that have already condensed to coalesce and merge quickly into drops that run down a slope to be collected.

Good double post there!! The first and last.

Water droplets came from zero to condense into a singular water droplet, then the one droplet condensed into a double droplet, and double into four etc. However as the footstep theory predicts droplets have ALWAYS been there:

So, they've taken off the straitjacket today, have they?
