The Universe computes nothing ; Everything the Universe does is based on the actions and/or interactions by the objects. And then the resultant physical consequences.

In principle yes. The water is conforming to the shape of the container. Now place the container in the freezer and the next day the container will have split open to allow for the expansion of the changing state of the water from a liquid to an expanding solid..

Why does water expand when it turns to ice? It is a universal physical computational function which necessitates the expansion of the container or it bursts open.

Moreover, how does a snowflake acquire such intricate fractality if not by processing a temperature input and processing the impact on its molecular structure, resulting in a fractal shape?

The key here is that the action of *changing states* is the *mindless processing of inputs* (values), resulting in a new state of existence.

So it could be that there are different points of view as to what a computer is. Perhaps it isn't surprising that the same tenet holds for what information is.

Information and computation are definitely in the same domain, so why all the disagreement? If it's true that any physical object can be defined as something with inputs and outputs, a kind of black box, then why isn't any physical object a kind of computer? That last idea has been around since at least Maxwell's demon, btw.

And, Maxwell's demon and its exorcism tie information theory and thermodynamics together, via entropy. It's actually a nice way to visualise entropy in information terms.

Depending on the inherent *values* and *abilities* of the components, i.e. selective processing in accordance to the prevailing potentials inherent in the interacting objects. How else can we arrive at the infinite variety of forms of and expressions of related objects such as in flowers.

Daisies are naturally progammed to produce petals in accordance to the Fibonacci Sequence. They don't know this, yet they function in accordance to that inherent program.

Define this " Universal physical computational function " .

IMO, objects themselves may not be a computer in and of itself. It does have a value (information). It is the interactions (processing) of these values which is a natural computational function.

There is NO infinite variety of forms.

Changing states through a strict set of processing *constants* (recurring universal functions), with the immediate environment as a variable input during this information processing.

There is NO such thing as infinite forms ; you know this .....

That is true. I should have said *near infinite* . But it also implies that there are natural rstrictions on the processing of information. A natural computational program, if you will.

Sure ; but based on the objects themselves; their internature and their interactions with other objects ; like and nonlike.

So the computations are reliant on the objects Nature.

I just thought of a universal function which might be a perfect example of a universal computing function.

Consider wave interference patterns, which follow the strict behavior laws (and values) inherent in the wave function itself..

IMO yes, because an object's nature is its *potential* (latent or active value) which permits the object to perform certain interactions and prohibits other actions. Each object is a result of natural computations at lower levels. A hierarchy of information processing from the very subtle to gross expression in our reality.

IMO, this process starts with the fundamental natural potentials of *negative value* and *positive value* which are inherent potentials of all physical things and according to Bohm, also exists in a meta-physical abstraction as The Implicate Order.

Hmm.....what is the essence of the wave ?

It's frequency of oscillation, which gives the wave its functional value. It's a mathematical function.

One of the restrictions in waves is that you cannot produce wavelengths which are longer than the object (string) emitting the wave. This is one of the methods used to test the original size of the universe. It was found that the longest wavelengths were missing from the residual echo of the BB, which would confirm the universe started smaller than it is today, because today those longer wavelengths are present and would support an *expanding* universe, larger today than when it started and able to produce these longer wavelengths..

Based on a physical object(s) existence.

    Do you Write4U understand ?

Yes, the original waves produced by the Big Bang from a *zero state* (positive<=>negative) singular condition, known as the inflation epoch. The DeBroglie-Bohm *Pilot Wave* theory is founded on the principles of this event.

    But allow me a question: Was the BB (by any other name);
    a) intentionally caused?
    b) probabilistically caused?
    c) necessarily caused?

Which leads to ...the Universe computing; how?

    NONE OF THE ABOVE

I don't know that, but it certainly is not by means of a human computer, except perhaps on some fundamental universal principle of *shared information leads to new information*, which in a dynamic environment is sufficient for an evolutionary process (long term probabilistic computations)
