Are not African Americans much better off having been sold and shipped away from Africa? Even though slavery was harsh, isnt it better that slavery happened and now provide better and free opprotunity?

Why do you think that? Do you think all Africans live in misery? Would you choose to be enslaved by Sweden, simply because Swedes have (in some respects) a higher standard of living than what your society provides?

If my ancestors had to shoulder the total cost, then I would have no problem thinking them hero's...I surely would not have enjoyed living in Liberia a few years ago....would you?

That all depends in the time period . I am not sure how the early Swedish explorers treated the people along the Black sea ( present Ukraina ) since the name slavic comes from slaves .

I was just thinking of all possible good outcomes of slave trade, thats all.....it did happen and it might be that the slaves and kin that made it here to USA are now better off. Seeing how so many folks would love to immigrate here, wouldnt it be correct to assume that the once inslaved provided for their progeny....Is that insane?

Do you still wish to try to argue that you are not racist? Because this has blown your argument that you are not racist out of the water.

    What's going to be next?

I mean, you've sunk low enough as to argue that the slave trade was a good thing and that it is better for it to have happened, how much lower can you actually go? The Holocaust was a good thing because it allowed Jews to have their own nation? Women being denied the right to vote and killed for being witches was a good thing? How much lower can you actually go at this point?

    No. It is sick.

Please, just because I ask a question about the possible good outcomes of a bad situation does not mean Im a racist...nor does my questioning of self segregating hoods, nor my questions about the ethical practice of hiring soley on race and minority status, nor does the fact that the majority of my peer group happens to be caucasion make me a bigot!

Would it be better to have just uprooted the Palestinian's for no good reason other than the Holocaust? Some say without land, a mans nothing.....

It's easy for you to say it's better slavery happened, and now the descendants of those who were enslaved have better and "free" opportunities. I'm sure those descendants would not agree. You were not enslaved. You don't know what it is or was like growing up in Africa or if people would be happier in Africa or the US. It's impossible to know. And I think you are kind of glossing over the more than a century of racism which followed the demise of slavery. When I was a youth, blacks and whites could not socialize with each other. They had separate schools, separate dining facilities, restrooms, hotels, etc. They were second class citizens. There is no excuse or justification for slavery or racism. Slavery was more than harsh, it was abhorrent and cannot be justified in any way. Slaves and in particular, African-American slaves were abused to the point of murder and endured centuries of discrimination. That's a pretty heavy burden.

Further, whither the descendants of slaves are better off in America or Africa is irrelevant. The fact is we, all of us, are better because of those slaves and their descendants. We cannot change the past. We cannot undo past wrongs. What has been done cannot be undone. African-Americans have made the lives of every American better and richer. The provided the labor which helped build this country. They fought valiantly and heroically in all of our wars. African Americans have made great contributions to the arts, sciences and industry. They have taught us all how to be better people (e.g. Martin Luther King). African-Americans have helped build this country. This is their country to. They have more than earned their right to be here. What we can do and should do is learn to live together in a more perfect union. It's that e pluribus unum thingy (US Motto).

Your question appears to be an attempt rationalize and justify the institution of slavery. There is no justification for slavery. And your question attempts to ignore the valuable contributions African-Americans have made and continue to make to our society. We are a stronger and better country because of our African-American brothers and sisters. They earned the right to be here. The opportunities afforded African-Americans was earned with their blood, sweat and tears. They were not given opportunities, they earned them and they fought for them.

Well, good. That doesn't change the fact African-Americans also fought in that war. I have ancestors who fought during the Civil War too. One was a Civil War general.

You said "free opportunites", as pointed out to you, African-Americans have earned their opportunities. They weren't given to them.
