Faith is the belief in things not seen. Faith is a special sub-set of belief. On the other hand, seeing is believing. This means belief is typically based on sensory input such as sight. Faith, as a subset of belief, makes use of the mind's eye or the sixth sense; intuition. This is not a typical sensory organ (sight, sound, smell, taste and touch, so faith is often treated as different from belief or the odd uncle of belief.

I believe John when he says he can jump over the four foot fence. The reason is, I have seen John jump over all types of things, with some things at least that tall. This is not faith, since I have visual data from other sources, which I can extrapolate, to form my belief. Many believe in manmade global warming, base on inferences from other things, that can see with their own eyes in the lab or on graphs.

Faith is the belief in things not seen. Little Tommy has never hit a homer in his life and he has skinny arms. I have faith that he can hit a home run. This is not a logical inferences, based on hard data. It is more of an intuition; emotional inference, based on an inner image I have.

When Albert Einstein wrote his theory of relativity, there were not yet any experiments to prove this, even though the math added up. There was nothing yet to logical infer all the special affects of relativity. Relativity was originally based on faith; gut feelings. From these gut feelings, experiments would be designed, so seeing was believing.

Steve Jobs had faith that the I-pad would revolutionize the computer market. There was no way to infer this from the then current data, when the iPad was in the planning stage. Jobs was a visionary and was willing to invest a small fortune. Once the sales went through the roof, then everyone could believe, this will change the industry.

Faith is always given a bad name by atheists, due to its connection to religion. But faith is also the nectar of the entrepreneur, who needs a way to be see and be motivated, even before there is hard data, for belief.
