"Volume" is now measured in "kms"...??!!

Again, a student brought this up - and referenced the following Thread :
http://sciforums.com/threads/black-holes-tutorial-based-on-observations-and-gr.152589/#post-3328762 ... "GR tells us that once any massive object is forced to undergo collapse, once it reaches a point called the Schwarzchild radius [which for a BH is the EH] then further collapse is compulsory. This means that if we squeeze the Sun into a volume of around 5 kms, it would reach its Schwarzchild radius, further collapse would continue and it would become a BH."

I was under the impression that "kms" was short for "Kilometers" - a measurement of "Distance"... or "Length"...

Here at OSU, "Volume" is (in Layman's Terms) a measurement of how much "Space" a particular object 'occupies' or 'takes up'...
It is most often referred to by a 3-dimensional amount (volume), expressed in a 'cubed' metric...i.e. "cubic inches", "cubic feet", "cubic centimeters", etc. ...

    See : http://science-notebook.com/measure02-vol.html
    or, : https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/7163-understand-volume-and-how-volume-is-measured

Has the standards of Science on SciForums 'devolved' to the point that "Volume" is now only a one-dimensional metric?

Really? You are starting a thread to troll Paddoboy? What a waste of time.

Let's all hope you never make an error in units, lest the scorn you are heaping on Paddoboy is returned to you in spades.

I'm sure paddyboy meant a radius of 5 km.

Of course, if you weren't the dumbest man on earth you'd have quoted the post correctly, thus:
into a volume of around 5kms [which obviously would be the diameter]

    The OP, Post #1 , paragraph #5 of : http://sciforums.com/threads/black-holes-tutorial-based-on-observations-and-gr.152589/#post-3328762 ,

    I 'copy/pasted' the "quoted" content...
...thus, I "quoted the post correctly".

I once lost a point on a chemistry assignment because I referred to the "area" of a molecular orbital. I carelessly used the word in the colloquial sense rather than the mathematical sense. I suppose I should have said "region".

More recently, I caught a PhD chemist on another forum making the same mistake. It happens.

Getting away from the usual "patheticness"shown by the usual, let's talk about some interesting facts.
We already know that if we could "magically" squeeze the Sun to within a volume of 5 kms, we would breach its Schwarzchild radius and create a BH.
But what about some other solar system objects? If we could do the same with Earth, but squeeze it to within a volume of a small marble, its Schwarzchild radius would also be breached.....Jupiter would need to be squeezed within a volume of 4 mtrs, to breach its Schwarzchild radius.
In essence any massive object that can be squeezed to within its Schwarzchild radius automatically becomes a BH by definition. [total compulsory collapse is assured]
Another little facts on diameters and solar system bodies and their relations, that I learnt a long time ago is the relationship between the diameters of Earth/Jupiter/Sun.....Jupiter is approx 11 times the diameter of Earth, while the Sun is 11 times the diameter of Jupiter. Interesting? I think so.

    Yes you did.
Apart from leaving out the words "[which obviously would be the diameter]".

i apologize, i should have been clear, i meant dumb guy, for creating such shenanigans.
again, some individuals are simply pathetic.
it was massively obvious, even to a blind person, that paddy was referring to vicinity.

    I understood your post completely.
I just thought I'd add something of interest, and remove focus from our "dumb guy" friend, to use your expression.

...sorry, Dywyddyr, but what you continue to quote :"[which obviously would be the diameter]" IS NOT FROM and DOES NOT APPEAR in the OP...

Why must you continue to accuse me of "leaving out the words "[which obviously would be the diameter]" ", which ARE NOT FROM and DO NOT APPEAR in the OP?

    Oh, you're right. My error.

And to show you're right here's the post by Paddo:
Again that's not what I said...perhaps english is your second language...
    what I said.......
This means that if we squeeze the Sun into a volume of around 5 kms, it would reach its Schwarzchild radius, further collapse would continue and it would become a BH.
Which means that squeezing the Sun into a volume of around 5kms [which obviously would be the diameter] would mean a Schwarzchild radius of around 2.5 kms.

Obviously now going on your past "Modus operandi" that will be the last we hear of this fabricated illusion of yours, without any recognition of your error and stupidity...

    Why are you lying?
To help you slightly, find the relevant page and use CTRL-F, then type in the word "diameter" then just keep hitting return. You'll see it pops up in posts #1, #7 (the relevant one), #10 - twice (the other relevant one) and #12.
Tell me again how how those words "ARE NOT FROM and DO NOT APPEAR in the OP".
