I have a friend who recently tried to sign in after a long period away from sciforums.
He was shocked to find that he was banned.
He has tried to find out why and when this happened but is unable to speak to anyone.

It appears to him the ban is permanent.

How does he go about finding out about his ban and appealing the decision ?

    Thank you

Best bet is to have him PM one of the Admins (JamesR for example) - you can do it on his behalf if you wish. I can find / tell you the ban reason, but moderators cannot reverse them.

Paulfr? Would that be Paul Reed, i.e. you?

    No.
We are old friends from College days.
Paul was a very common name back then.

I suggest you ask paulfr to sign up under a new name, then to start a conversation with me himself.

OK I can log in as "paulfr" now
    Thank you.
I will let my friend Paul know.
May I keep my Paul Reed account too ?

It was quite disturbing to my friend to be banned.
He will be quite relieved to be back

    Thanks again

How can you log in as paulfr, did he give you his password? Why do you want to keep his user name, I thought he wanted to come back to the site? Why do you want 2 accounts - you can't do that by the way.

Do you see how this all seems rather strange?

    > Yes, we are close friends

Why do you want to keep his user name, I thought he wanted to come back to the site?
    > I don't want to keep it, he does. I have my own account as Paul Reed.

Why do you want 2 accounts - you can't do that by the way.
    > No one wants 2 accounts. paulfr is one and Paul Reed [me] is another.

Why are you answering as paulfr if it is your friends account? You should log in as paul reed and not use your friends account.

    Still seeming strange to me....
