On the right-hand side of the Home page I see a section headed "New profile posts". What are profile posts, and how do they differ from regular posts?
Profile posts are posts made on the personal profile pages of members. To get there, click on somebody's name, then hit the "View profile page" link. You can also make profile posts on your own profile. They are a bit like Facebook status updates.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I was wondering if there was any kind of privilege restrictions on making profile posts?
I don't see any way to make a profile post on my own profile. Here's a screen. What should I see here to add a profile post?

I have that same problem. I can't figure out how to make profile posts on my own or on other people's profiles. It's like the button just isn't there.
That is... quite odd. Normally, you can do it in one of two places: Hover over your name and you get a drop down with a place to do so at the bottom: Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Or in your actual profile page: Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I'm not getting those at all. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Likewise, when I go to your profile I get this: Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! With no option to make a post on your profile.
Mouse over your name at the top right of the screen. Select "Privacy" and click on it.. Make sure that "Post messages on your profile page:" is ticked. And you can have it to members only or to your friends and those you follow only. I have it set to members only. I also have "View your details on your profile page" ticked and selected to members only.
Or you can go to Personal Details when you mouse over your name at the top right of the screen and you should have a chat box at the top of that page and you can make profile or status posts there as well. You should also be able to make profile posts on the front page, on the right hand side, where everyone's status/profile posts appear. There should be a small text window over that you can type into. But first, you need to fix up your privacy status when it comes to profile posts.
The odd thing is, both of those checkboxes are already ticked. I tried unticking and re-ticking them, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.
That's really weird. You can't see a text box on your personal details page either? Or see the text box for profile posts on the right hand side of the main page of this site?
No, ma'am. Here's a screen of my personal details page: Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! And another of the main page header... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I used to be able to edit my signature, too. I think y'all paid too much for the forum software.
The text box on your personal details page is at the top of the personal details page. Under "Status Message". The profile update text box on the front page is on the right hand side of the page, under the Members Online section and you should be seeing a box with other people's status updates/profile posts. If you do not have these options, you need to PM admin and let them know, because this is probably permission based.
