Just a bit of random fun (and bragging rights).

Take your Like total and divide it by the number of your post count to find your Like Quotient.

Mine is currently 0.07553 as of this post.

    What's yours?

(Edited because I suck at maths.)

Mine is at 318.4 right now. If I had fewer likes, the quotient would be a lot higher, of course.

Maybe we need the reciprocal of this quotient. In that case, I'd be on 0.00314. That's 3 likes for every 1000 posts. But, I was here for 14 years before the "like" system was introduced...

Oh... it never occurred to me that the Like function wasn't always here. Silly me.

Did I get my maths backwards again? (I'm always doing that.) My reciprocal would be 0.0755287 then?

389 posts, 29 likes. Of course that stat'll be altered with this post, since it'll make it 390 to 29.

I'm not convinced that a high 'like-quotient' is something that somebody should brag about.

It appears to be similar to being popular in high-school. To me it indicates conformity and a tendency to say things that other people want to hear.

That's one of the reasons why I'm put off by a lot of the current 'social media' craziness. It seems to be an attempt by young entrepeneurs like Mark Zuckerberg to extend their own high-school sensibility to everyone else and to all of adult life.

The like button doesn't mean that much to me. Usually if someone likes my post they write back about it but not always.

To me, how many people like me isn't as important as who likes me. If some idiot likes me, that's more of an embarrassment.

Also, sometimes it's hard to tell what they like about a post. Did I say something brilliant or did I just say something they agreed with? Or did they just like the way I expressed it, even if I was wrong?

A great way to say it. Liked your post, now try and figure out why?

Just saw this post while doing a bit of searching......
I totally agree with those views on the like button...reasons? Simply because we have a couple of real live morons that are treating it as some sort of joke, only known unto themselves, and hitting the like button willy
    I'm in total agreement!
Reasons? Because in recent times, I have had "likes" from two adversaries that are obviously in disagreement with what I have said, yet both are constantly hitting the like button on my posts, as some form of jocular, facetious action, the reasons only known to themselves.
[Although I do have an educated idea as to why.

So, the number of likes attributed to a poster [particularly me in this case] are not a true reflection of why the like button was implemented.

Well, damn. 0.109742441 BAC would get me busted here in Texas. Or a spot in the nice cold room in the hospital basement...

you know... some people use "like" as a means to say something along the lines of "hey... i don't agree, but i can appreciate a good well thought out argument that has evidence and respect your POV"...

i've used the like button in the past for this reason (here and elsewhere)

problem is... my stats are all off... i am missing most of my posts from before the big change: i have something like 320 messages listed, but i had far, far more
upwards of 1,000 - what happened to them? something like that definitely skews the results

    320 posts
