I blame the religious right myself...that and abysmal ignorance on the part of the public. I believe that ALL drugs should be legal and available to those who wish to use them. That would take a lot of the inflated profit margins out of the trade and hopefully assure cleaner products free of (more) toxic adulterants.

the above writing is semplar of the variable presentative greatness that can have been in place, let's say by 1976.

Is a bastion a place of distraction from principles.

Is it that Nixon may have liked the idea of legalism, yet his interest of behavioral caution became a sluttery.

Had he perhaps wanted clean legality of government mean worth.. adding simply to alcohol, maji, and tobacco..
    ""behavioral caution midst use""""
    """consideration of cause""'

Did you see the prices for pot today where it has become legal. Many times the prices are equal to or even greater than the underground prices. Can you tell me why they do that or is it greed once again? It sure doesn't cost allot to grow the stuff and to buy or rent a store to sell it isn't costly either but we see high prices wherever it becomes legal.

They assume (perhaps correctly) that their customers will be so relieved by no longer having to worry about getting busted, that they'll happily pay the same price.
Actually, renting a store is not cheap, what with license fees, business taxes, insurance, etc. Neither is maintaining an indoor growing operation.

However, there is an enormous selection of small indoor growing units that will keep two or three people stoned all year round. The lights stay on 24/7, making them grow faster than in nature, until the plants decide that it must be autumn so they start budding. At that point a daily on-off lighting cycle is used to maximize the budding. You can get two growing seasons per year.

You can't do this in a place where it's illegal, because all your neighbors will smell it. They'll either call the cops or come over asking to share.

The retail price of an ounce of 'eh' grade cannabis is supposed to be heading for about $125 USD in Washington while "medicinal" grade remains around $350 USD. In the Detroit area Mexican brick runs around $200 US/ounce and top - notch 'indoor', 'hydro', or 'Canadian' bud goes for as much as $750 US/ounce. "Schwag" grade leaf (that is the stuff they put into emptied out cigars to smoke) goes for about $100/ounce.

Most cannabis goes from the vegetative phase under 18 hours of light a day to the flowering phase under 12 hours a day of light. Exceptions are "auto - flowering" strains that flower out when they get a certain age. A smalltime indoor grower doing a 'perpetual grow' can run a full veg through flowering cycle in as little as 3 months which means 4 harvests a year. Activated charcoal filters, sealed systems with engineered intakes/outputs and air conditioners make indoor growing very hard to detect. There is a house just down the street from me that simply reeks of cannabis. The owner may be a medicinal grower, but he sure doesn't seem concerned about getting caught. Medicinal is now legal here, but you need to grow in designated areas and have a card. I can sometimes smell his grow from 100 feet away.

Since Monsanto has now patented a strain of cannabis it is pretty much expected that nationwide legalization is very near in the US.

The case for legalizing all drugs is very logical and straightforward for those who endorse personal responsibility over government attempts at control. We may recall that Prohibition has not worked in the past, is not working at present and will not work in the future either. Not only that, but Prohibition creates vastly more crime and official corruption than it prevents.

My parents were teenagers when Prohibition began and grew up with it in Chicago, Al Capone's headquarters. They shared frightening experiences of entire neighborhoods where no one dared to go outside after dark. Furthermore, when alcohol is distilled by amateurs in barns at night, it's quite common for a bit of wood alcohol to be mixed with the ethanol. It killed quite a few people and blinded many others.

And of course children were recruited as runners, because they're harder to catch and the justice system is reluctant to treat them as harshly as adults are treated. The children grew up watching mobsters wearing beautiful clothes and jewelry, driving Cadillacs and having sumptuous parties, while their hard-working parents could barely make ends meet during a weak economy. Guess what they wanted to be when they grew up?

My mother, bless her heart, said that the worst thing about Prohibition was that WOMEN started patronizing taverns. The people of the USA do not respect authority like the people of, say, England, Germany or Japan. Define something as naughty and make it illegal, and by golly, we'll all line up to do it.

My parents were in the same area and time frame. Grandpa showed me the important Proinhibition sites on a drive - around when I was a puppy, including the shot-up hotel where Capone lived.

Most folks are unaware that methanol is produced by regular fermentation along with ethanol. That is why you must discard the first fraction of distillate when you are separating out the alcohol from the mash. Amateurs do not know this and often collect all of the distillate for consumption with disastrous results.

:hmm: Looks like the site software did some interesting things to my above post too......

Don't fall for the propaganda that blames it on certain industries like Tobacco. That is a smoke screen used by those who always benefit by all prohibitions. The biggest winners are lawyers, law enforcement, judicial and prison industries. These represent a lot of jobs and well as a lot of union jobs. No matter what you prohibit, from soft drinks to drugs to fertilizer, these industries win. All victimless crime has these finger prints on it.

The other winners are connected to the black market, that is created, who gets a tax free monopoly. The tax free is a bonus incentive; gold rush, to assume the other four industries have perceived need.

Over the past four decades, federal and state governments have poured over $1 trillion into drug war spending and relied on taxpayers to foot the bill. Unfortunately, these tax dollars have gone to waste. In 1980, the United States had 50,000 people behind bars for drug law violations – now we have more than half a million. The U.S. is now the world’s largest jailer, drugs remain widely available and treatment resources are scarce. Not only have billions of tax dollars been wasted, but drug war spending has also resulted in the defunding of other important services.

The high taxes on legal and medical marijuana is to designed to help offset the potential loss of government revenues, that result from the shifting of prohibition priorities away from these four industries. But the savings fro these four industries, is not as much as one would think, even with marijuana being legal. The high cost of legal pot, due to taxes, is designed to invite the black market to compete; lower price tax free incentive. This perception of a new bogey man criminal allows the four industries to maintain employment; double dipping scam. If you don't pay the state mafia protection money; tax, the goons will come.

The way you end the war on drugs, with a victory, is to make drugs so cheap, the black market can't compete. With the economic gone, the government can regulate via a monopoly that need no enforcement. But the path of victory impacts tax revenues, with the greed of politicians, eventually inviting other criminals back; birds of a feather.

It's still early and growing hasn't ramped up to meet demand. At the same time, the costs of doing business without banking is high. As is the cost of security.

Many growers are using hydroponics in large scale warehouses. That way they don't need as much security as in growing outdoors would need.

Not really true, people steal from them. They drill holes in the walls and watch the crop until it's ready.

I'd think in a concrete building a hole would be easy to locate and to break through a concrete wall would be very noisy then there's the transportation that too would be very obvious when stealing the grow.

They drill high up and use a ladder. Then they come in at night and break the door down.

We have grow houses around here where a house is rented/leased, heavy drapes or normal - looking room photos hung over the windows and the entire house is turned into a grow operation. Often the electricity is stolen and the staffing are Chinese organized crime gang members from Toronto in the US illegally. 2 were busted near here just last year. There are also many of those warehouse operations around too. Of course, they are competing with Canadian greenhouse operations that smuggle their wares across the border. All of them are competing with the Mexican cartel imports and clandestine domestic grow ops.

Around here though, the chances are pretty good that the thugs who break down the grow op door and steal the money and the weed are cops who know that the owner has a card and or a permit so there will be booty to steal.....ain't just the regular criminals........
