Cannabis extract shrinks tumors

"Researchers in Spain have discovered that a cannabis extract makes brain tumors shrink by halting the growth of blood vessels that supply the tumors with life. Cannabis has chemicals called cannabinoids, these are the chemicals that could effectively starve tumors to death, say the researchers.

The study was carried out at the Complutense University, Madrid, Spain.

The team used mice to demonstrate that the cannabinoids block vessel growth.

Apparently, the procedure is also effective in humans.

The Spanish team, led by Dr Manuel Guzman, wanted to see whether they could prevent glioblastoma multiforme cancer from growing by cutting off its blood supply. Glioblastoma multiforme is one of the most difficult cancers to treat ? it seldom responds to any medical intervention, such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery.

The scientists knew that cannabinoids will block the growth of blood vessels (to tumors) in mice ? they wanted to find out whether the same thing would happen with humans.

The mice were given a cancer similar to the human brain cancer (glioblastoma multiforme). The mice were then given cannabinoids and the genes examined.

The genes associated with blood vessel growth in tumors through the production of a chemical called vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) had their activity reduced.

Cannabinoids halt VEGF production by producing Ceramide. Ceramide controls cell death.

Dr Guzman said: "As far as we know, this is the first report showing that ceramide depresses VEGF pathway by interfering with VEGF production."

They then wanted to see if this would also happen with humans.

They selected two patients who had glioblastoma multiforme and had not responded to chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery. The scientists took samples from them before and after treating them with a cannabinoids solution ? this was administered directly into the tumor.

Amazingly, both patients experienced reduced VEGF levels in the tumor as a result of treatment with cannabinoids.

The researchers said that the results were encouraging. In order to be sure about their findings they need to carry out a larger study, they said.

Lots of things shrink tumors if you apply them directly to the tumor. Unfortunately, most of those things aren't good for you in general if you take them into your whole body.

 

This is certainly not knew information. Information for several cures for cancer, which includes cannabis extracts such as hemp oil, has been all over the Internet for many years. But, like free energy or anything else that would disrupt the System, society just isn't ready for cancer cures at the moment. It doesn't matter how many lives it can save, society is not ready yet... I mean obviously. Even with all the overwhelming evidence and testimonials of it's cure, it still has such a strong, negative stigma attached to it due to social programming that the very idea is still tossed aside as nothing more than a hippy drug, which I find extremely fascinating given the fact that curing cancer is just a very small part of what the cannabis plant can do. And there is a very long list.

 

A substance that shrinks tumors when applied directly to them isn't a cancer cure or even treatment. At best, it's a place to start investigating.

 

I rather enjoy the thought that my cancerous tumour has been cut out of my body and has been properly disposed of. That shrunk it by about 35 grams.

I am convinced that the radiation and the chemo are going to deal with the remnants.

I have known several persons who based their cancer therapy on cannabis. Sadly, none have survived thus far.

 

Perfectly put. there are diverse substances/extracts/molecules that have a direct inhibiting or shrinking effect on tumors that have been proven to work IN VITRO. However since we are talking about cannabinoids, you must consider that there are 66 that have been classified and are chemicals unique to the marijuana plant and not all have this anti tumor properties. cannabinoids are more the substances responsible for the psychoactive effects of it and are not yet properly proven to cure any tumor, nor even less shrink it.

There has only been one study done on the effects of marjiuana done in mice and all it determined was that the cannabinoids MAY have a protective effect against the development of certain types of tumors. nothing more.

There are many other more effective "tumor shrinking" molecules that are used.

..I believe people want to find excuses to smoke marijuana, not understanding that its use is detrimental both for their physical and mental health, especially for the fact that its leaves are filled with toxic chemicals (not only coming from pesticides, etc) but also naturally occurring.

not only is it good for shrinking tumors but my nephew who has had violent seizures starting at around age 7 to 10 we started using medical marijuana with very low THC levels but very high in CBD levels. we really didn't know how to administer the medical marijuana to him seeing that he was only 7 years old until we found the DaVinci ascent vaporizer and he uses it regularly now and has maybe 2 or 3 seizures a week.

I did read about the study done on mouse prostate cancer cells being killed off by cannabinoids in a petri dish a short time back though, and am familiar with cannabis' efficacy in preventing seizures in some persons. It appears that MMJ and legalization will progress on a state by state basis until a majority of US states have legalized. Then the US federal govt will be forced to repeal its program of ilegalization, interdiction and denial. Of course, when cannabis is legalized in the US, the price will crash and Mexico's economy will collapse......

Besides surgery, chemotherapy and radiation are the foundation of modern day cancer treatment. Although effective, these therapies often have debilitating and damaging side effects. But scientists at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Bethesda, Maryland have been experimenting with a new form of therapy using infrared light to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors without damaging healthy tissue.

The photoimmunotherapy (PIT) treatment works by combining cancer-specific antibodies with a fluorescent dye. A near infrared light is then administered which heats up the dye, burns a hole in the cancer cell is has attached to, and essentially kills it.

Scientists have targeted tumor cells in mice by using the antibodies that bind to proteins that are often over-expressed in cancers. The researchers specifically targeted HER2, a protein over-expressed by some breast cancers; EGFR, which is over-expressed by some lung, pancreatic, and colon cancers; and PSMA, which is over-expressed by prostate cancers.

"Normal cells may have a hundred copies of these antibodies, but cancer cells have millions of copies," says Hisataka Kobayashi, chief scientist in Molecular Imaging at NCI. "That's a big difference." The result is that only cancer cells are affected by the light-activation, leaving surrounding tissue unharmed.

Though a valuable weapon against cancerous tumors, radiation therapy often harms healthy tissue as it tries to kill malignant cells. Now, Prof. Israel Gannot of Tel Aviv University's Department of Biomedical Engineering is developing a new way to destroy tumors with fewer side effects and minimal damage to surrounding tissue.

His innovative method, soon to be published in the journal Nanomedicine, uses heat to kill the tumor cells but leaves surrounding healthy tissue intact. Using specific biomarkers attached to individual tumors, Prof. Gannot's special mixture of nano-particles and antibodies locates and binds to the tumor itself.

"Once the nano-particles bind to the tumor, we excite them with an external magnetic field, and they begin to heat very specifically and locally," says Prof. Gannot. The magnetic field is manipulated to create a targeted rise in temperature, and it is this directed heat elevation which kills the tumors, he says.
