The problem is that if you're banned I don't think you can read personal messages.

Strange though. I thought that the duration of a ban was shown if you tried to log into the forum while banned.

Is it possible to set up a hidden subforum for banned members? Kind of like the mod forum.
Members would be limited to maybe one post a day (otherwise they might like it).

On most sites, and the old one here, when you get a warning or ban you get a PM and an e-mail, at least I always did (and I'm quite experienced in the ban area, if I do say so myself!

Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

). I would also see a message on other forums, and the old one here, when trying to log on, showing duration of ban. But this time I got no e-mail, no PM, and no message. I couldn't access PM's, but there wasn't one sent anyway.

Hmm, I may not have ticked 'send pm' or whatever it reads. That never was a problem because people could access their warnings tab. Hasn't that been fixed yet?

Then sorry, this is a very unsatisfactory state of affairs for (we) heavy users of LaTex. Why should it be up to users to choose/tweak their browsers? Many of us have little knowledge or interest in computer science, and expect everything to work "straight out of the box"
But quite clearly it isn't - JamesR commented on this and so did I

tell me, how is anybody going to read a PM when banned?

allowing some posters the luxury of a signature and not others is discrimination.

There might be stale values left in database fields from the port to to new software. Those can be hard to find.

that, or sending a message to their email address.
fixing the ban list would probably help.

I'm not suggesting you tweak your browser. It's merely a point that some browsers are faster and more compatible. Consider that LaTex is used a lot by the scientific community as a whole and certain browsers are open enough to allow development in regards to various prototypes towards an industry standards for native implementation. Internet Explorer doesn't necessarily follow that trend. What you have is a bunch of developers (MathJax) attempting to get Internet Explorer to behave like the other browsers at the same speed. Unfortunately that isn't always the case. (It would probably work better if there was less Javascript on the page and just the MathJax)
Unfortunately MathJax was the only available solution to work with this software that doesn't require a dedicated server to commit to server-side rendering. Such solutions would cost money.

You mean I'm not the only person on the planet who disables default underlining of links in a browser? While it's an option in IE and Firefox, AFAIK the only way Chrome users could even accomplish that is via this difficult-to-find extension. [That's the way it was over 3½ years ago when I last used a chromium-based browser, anyway.] One source claims that Chrome has 45% of the browser market while another source claims the latest version only has a paltry 6.75% share. If the former, a very significant amount of web surfers would be constantly stuck with underlined links whether they like it or not (since the aforementioned Chrome addon has only been downloaded 18,035 times).

    the alerts page needs revamped.
i have 5 alerts, and each one is on a different page.
they could be all listed on one page.

I know. It's annoying. But if you just mouse-over the alert link it will give you a drop-down list with all of your unread alerts.

    Two issues:

Today I tried to send a PM ("start a conversation"). The text box that accepts the addressee's name won't populate. As I type it either doesn't echo the character, or else it echoes one char and the second char deletes the first.

Also, can the buttons on the Reply screen (compose a post) be lowered? The "Post Reply" button is so close to the active line of text that it causes half-composed messages to post, when using a touch screen, trying to position the cursor on the bottom line and not landing precisely on the position desired, instead activating the button.

    Thanks.

Can hyperlinks be made more visible, please? Underlining them could be a good idea.
