It was the light changing from darker to lighter which I saw that still leades me to think that was how they did it.

This s a great way to get some publicity for your store. I'm guessing that business has been slow, and this is a last ditch effort to keep from having to close the doors. They probably already have t-shirts and coffee mugs for sale already.

The light changing is weird. I think you are on to something, but keep in mind that they did get a medium in there.

...and an excellent example of why ghosts are inherrently unprovable.

spidergoat - that cake could have been fresh out of the oven - it wouldn't have lifted the glass. For one, it isn't an airtight seal

If not a ghostly cause... a plausable explination is... a blast of air under the cake cover from a tire pressure hose woud blow it off just like that.!!!

Clever basturds... they placed the 1/2" air hose behind the glass dishes which were in front of the left side of the cake plate... then wit an upward blast of air at the left side of the cake plate... the left side of the cake cover can be seen to lift first... an as the cover is flyin off its flippin over an its upsidedown when the knob-handle hits the counter givin the cover an aquward skid-bounce as it continues on past the counter an then downward as it crashes to the floor.!!!

This flipped-over cover an bounce can best be seen beginin at 1:34

Are you saying that glass cake container lids are physically invulnerable to falling off?

Did your granny used to chase you outside with her wooden spoon on baking day, Hoss? I think so. Otherwise you would know that you can't remove a hot cake layer right out of the oven to the covered plate. It has to cool in the pan first. If you tried to remove it from the baking pan while it was still oven-fresh it would crumble into a sweet, hot heap. Besides, you'd burn your fingers! You must wait a while, quite a while, for the layer to cool, flop it out of the cool pan, then add frosting and perhaps more layers. You see, Granny really did love you!

Please note: my most scientific post ever!!!

So where's the compressor for this invisible air hose?

Whoa! Stop the Presses! Invisible air hoses! Do they really exist? Are they from Outer Space? Did aliens bring them to our world to foil us? Have their been probes? I have a picture of an invisible air hose. (Fig. 1a below)

Can't see it? That's the whole idea! Here's one still on the reel to make it easier for you.

Invulnerable, no. However, short of rigging a very specific system to do this (a string suspended from the ceiling, or this air-hose and compressor theory), no normal, natural cause would do this to that specific object without affecting the rest of the objects on the counter and in view.

*snrk* Landau, trust me, I know - my point was, even if the cake was oven-fresh-hot, it wouldn't produce enough "force" (via expansion of cooler air) underneath the glass lid to cause it to fly off

For the ones suggesting the air-hose theory... I have to ask... what would a bakery/restaurant be doing with an air hose and compressor?

Also, glass cake stands/domes typically weigh around 10 pounds... if we assume six pounds of that is the pedestal (thicker glass, etc), that still leaves four pounds of glass to be shifted by a pulse of air. I am sure someone, somewhere, is capable of doing the physics to determine the PSI you would need coming out of your average air hose (1/4" outlet to, say, a 1/8" nozzle) to accomplish this, which would tell us if this is even within the realm of possibility.

The bakery is in cahoots with Magical!

    How about this:
    • loosely loop a fishing line around the knob on top,
    • take the line underneath the counter from right and out on the left,
    • take it somewhere off camera,
    • yank.
This idea seems to be consistent with the forces on the glass.

Why do these ghosts always get cold feet and camera shy whenever a science guy shows up?

Good thankin Kitt... well... as good as usual anyhow... lol.!!!

From a blast of air under the 4 pound cake cover... how many PSI from a 1/8" nozzel woud it take to blow the cake cover off its stand.???
Now thats a good idea Kitt... any volenteers to take a shot at doin the physics to find the necessary air pressure to blow the cake cover off.???
