It sounds to me like you do agree with Sagan and wellwisher, in ww's first paragraph.

I think wellwisher means that atheists want to 'get' the right brain as they have the left. He is suggesting that the atheists hope to satisfy the right brain (the right brains of society that process beauty, romance art, etc) and to include the right brain in their 'scheme of things' -in what for the atheists is an acceptable way - through aliens and UFO myth/legend to replace religious feelings.

You asked what he meant. That's my take. I have no idea if I am right, but it does sound a lot like what Sagan meant.

What wellwisher Posted in his Post #148, could be considered a Modern re-phrasing of Dr. Sagan's expressed viewpoints in that near 50-year old interview.
Quite a bit of Science/Technology has changed over that ~50-years,

Dr. Sagan says essentially the same thing that wellwisher Posted in his Post #148.

From my perspective, Arne Saknussemm, I cannot really grok how anyone that actually read wellwishers Post and actually watched/listened to the video, could conclude that what wellwisher wrote and what Dr. Sagan said in the Posted Video, to be appreciably different.

 

That's why I asked paddo why he thought that. I guess you've read our discussion these past few posts? I understand what difference he sees.

It's obvious that our philosopher friend wellwisher, believes Aliens are a projection of people's minds.
Carl did not.
Carl is/was an Astronomer and had a practical point of view, based on science and the scientific method.
wellwisher gives a heap of scrambled personal assumptions and philosophical takes on practical science, that in the main is just wrong.

In fact Carl would be literally turning in his grave as to how some are using his good name as some seemingly support for pseudoscientific comments, and philosophical nonsense that has been projected.

No problems, and yes we have.
The problem with wellwisher, is he very rarely will explain some of his nonsense...he posts lengthy, rather personal philosophical takes on a subject, then leaves.
He appears to be like a male lion, just wanting to mark his territory.
You could ask him what he meant, but I doubt he'll reply.
And to get an idea of his style of posting, check out a few others...quite weird some of them.

And Carl would 100% certainty support the continuing search for ETL and ETI realising that when verified it would indeed be mankinds most defining, profound moment ever in the whole of history.
