The video below shows a Dog who gets incredibly upset by his own leg as it believes his own leg may be trying to take his food...

Now looking at this clip and if one drops all preconceptions, one could see it as evidence that the dog is possessed or exhibiting a second mind with independent will..

what say you?

I say the dog is insane. There is no reason to believe mental disorders are confined to apes...

Yes, that poor doggy is just nuts. Either not enough interaction with other dogs as a pup, or way too much. Why are the people laughing? If those are the sort of people who raised him, perhaps they made him what he is. Remember Barbara Woodhouse, the dog-trainer extraordinaire and her 'Woodhouse Way'? No bad dogs! Only bad owners.

Why would you leap to the conclusion that the dog has a second mind? Why not make the leap that the leg has a second mind?

The animal is clearly very distressed.
Unless it was something temporary, it is really not funny at all.
It doesn't recognise its own leg as part of itself.
Some neurological problem maybe.

Yeah, the poor dog is clearly fucked up...

But, what gets me, is the laughter...

What a sick world we live in. The dog should be euthanized... The family too. Sick fucks.

In the case of cats with FHS, there can be attacks on the tail. Occasionally provoked by the appendage twitching involuntarily on its own, thus allowing the cat to regard it as foreign parasite / intruder once the lack of control becomes apparent. Just a hop there to it sometimes happening with a paw / leg.

The canine version of hyperesthesia is most often cited as a symptom of distemper virus, which is unlikely in the case of the dog in the video. But when considering the lack of consensus with the cat affliction -- all the multiple theories / potentially different causes of hyperesthesia in felines, it seems feasible that a similar range of possibilities could pertain to dogs. For the latter, the label of CH itself just happens to be exclusively reserved for CDV as the cause.

"Some of these attributes, in an extreme form, are components of the syndrome known as feline hyperesthesia. Cats affected by this syndrome show the most bizarre character changes, sometimes appearing to hallucinate, act manic, schizophrenic, or even 'possessed'. [... including ...] Tail swishing, fixation with tail, tail chasing, or vicious attacks directed toward the tail." --petplace.com; Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome

Possessed.
Unfortunately, some people still have such a magical view.

Dogs need exercise not exorcise.

This is even more disgusting. A huge joke. Haha.
Warning. If you click, you will regret watching it.

thanks for that, CC!
I mentioned the idea of watching the video with out preconceptions and if one does so with out any scientific knowledge from a perspective of a caring dog carer then I believe one would immediately observe that the dog appears to be reacting to another will or a part of it's own will that is no longer under it's control.
The dogs extreme anger, to me indicates that IT believes it is possessed and IT is attempting to reject that possession.
I would imagine that at any other time the dog is quite happy with it's apparent conflict of wills and the problem only manifests when "food" is involved. Which is probably why the dog hasn't been euthanized.
IMO the laughter you hear in the background is by those who think the dog believes that it is possessed and of course we humans think we know better don't we, so we see it as an absurdity and not for what it may actually be.
Similar behavior can be seen in humans as well and typically diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenia or NPD. or even rarely as Multiple personality disorder.

I didn't notice this, when originally posted...
I've heard of a "devil dog", but, that made me laugh. And, I need to laugh more...

So, thanks for that.

I think that this devil dog enjoyed the experience.
Exorcise can be exercise as well. Why not combine the two?
Its tail was wagging at the end anyway.

Dogs will put up with anything, so long as they get attention.

It should be warned that Teasing animals will likely cause them to respond randomly and potentially dangerously, those that do so for "fun" are in the realms of Sociopathy.
