The psychological difference between eternal life, eternal sleep, or in the moment, is connected to how long term one extrapolates into the future. The longer one extrapolates, the more eternal life is appealing. If one is a short term thinker, then in the moment or sleep is needed.

As an analogy, in college there are students who study all the time and don't appear to have any fun. There are others who play all the time causing their grades to fall. The first establishes longer term goals, such that the inertia of these goals, drives them through the day to day tedium of studying, so it is less tedious. The second has shorter term planning and therefore lacks this inertia. They need more moment by moment stimulus. This can get redundant since again they lack the longer term inertia to smooth out the edges of repeating stimulus.

If the goal was to run a marathon, in one year, and one keeps this one year goal in mind, the day to day training is easier. Concepts like eternal life and reincarnation, although hard to prove with science, nevertheless have an evolutionary purpose. These helped humans to advanced beyond apes. Apes live more in the moment and don't plan long term. Apes are easier to herd and control than future thinkers. One only has to give them toys. These toys are not as important to the inertia of long term planning.

Yes, it is also hard to prove with science the existence of Ra the sun god.

So it logically follows that we developed these concepts while we were apes since it helped us to advance beyond them.

So an ape would ignore long term problems like global warming and concentrate on short term goals like making money.

So all the apes could be swayed by watching propaganda, say like Fox News. They would all start hooting and hollering and jumping on the funiture when they watch it.

I would certainly choose the endless life. I already find eating, shitting and sleeping a big waste of time. We pretty much waste 1/3 of our life sleeping.

I don't think you would get bored actually. There is so much someone can do on this earth. By the time 1000 years have passed and you experienced life on all continents, you would be able to go and live on an other planet!

P.S. You should check the movie The Man From Earth. It's pretty much this story.

 

Love/Relationships. This is what Eternal Life is all about at it's most fundamental level. The most fundamental love relationship is corporate between human beings, God, and one other. Considering the complexity of those involved, there is nothing boring about it. Eternity is not long enough to plumb those depths. God has indeed given you a choice; that is, to repent of [i.e. CHANGE] how you currently think about Him and what He has done for humanity through the death, burial, and resurrection of the GOD-Man Jesus Christ--the Creator and Sustainer of all that is, including you. As you experience things now, change is possible for you. Once you pass, you are confirmed in your state whatever it is, and change is no longer possible.

 

An eternity wouldn't get boring because you spend it in a heavenly bliss with the all interesting creator!

I would opt for living forever.

For me, the best option would be to start over again at age circa 10-12 with my current memories & mental abilities. I would not care if the clock of the universe were rewound to the time when I was 10-12 or I became 10-12 starting today with history as I remember it.

BTW: Due to Chaos Theory & Quantum level randomness, resetting the universal clock would not result in repetition of the history that I remember, although I would have some advantages since for a year or so, I would have some predictive abilities which could be helpful. Obviously, I could use my curreent knowledge to make better decisions than those I made a long time ago.

Since my mind would contain memories & abilities I did not have when circa 10-12, resetting the universal clock would not result in exactly the same initial conditions. The Chaos Theory Butterfly Effect would result in events not included in my memory & in a few years, there would be extreme differences from the events I world remember.

Quantum randomness would also predict extreme differences from the events I would remember.

Being circa 10-12 with my current memories & mental abilities would have advantages even if the universal clock were not reset.

 

The only way forever is possible is if you enjoy yourself. When you are happy you stay young.

 

Eternal sleep would be interesting but only if it's terms are defined. Would I be able to lucid dream whatever particular dreamscapes or vistas of imaginative reality I wanted? I would more than likely choose eternal death however, non-existence is a nice warm place of nothingness. I hope to return to it someday.

 

Death is not eternal lol. It's dead. Eternity will happen and the dead will miss. No thoughts, dreaming, or imagination for the dead.

 

The pain of lost love will be consciously endured for eternity. It will be the pain of losing the Love of, and for, God. Nothing will compare in terms of that agony.
