Actually, there was a time when I probably drank more than that, in a day... Every day. I don't drink coffee at all anymore though.
A lot of those benefits listed were due to caffeine. However, in some cases(mine included), the caffeine would in detrimental in ways that offset any benefit.
Exactly why I never drink it anymore... For years, you would never see me, without a cup or mug in my hand... Then, the Docs said, give up the caffeine, or you will die. Haven't had a cup of mud, or a coke in around 10 years.
If I may be so bold as to ask, what particular aspect did the doctors suggest would kill you? Just curious because I do not know anyone who was advised that excess caffeine would bring about their demise. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Believe it or not, you can actually OD on caffeine... And, it was actually causing me physical problems. If I couldn't get enough, I would go thru DT's similar to alcohol withdrawal. Sweats and chills... Even mental confusion... I had never had a cup of coffee, prior to the military. A year in, I would drink as much as 25_30 cups a day... Every day, for years. I was addicted. I wouldn't drink anything that didn't contain caffeine. I worry about these kids that guzzle Red Bull and Monster... It got to where I didn't even wanna eat. Just give me caffeine and nicotine. ETA... People have actually OD'd on water... Go figure. Too much of a good thing, and all that jazz.
I'm with you on this one MR. To me coffee makes life worth living. I realize that people have different physical reactions and tolerance to coffee and caffeine, but I like it for its taste and that it makes my heart glad. I used to stay with my grandma a lot as a very young man. She was a housewife during the Great Depression and learned to waste nothing. So, as their was milk in it, she'd mix everyone's left coffee into my baby bottle. Then, since I 've never been a morning person when I started school and all through those years I refused to eat breakfast. The most my mother could get me to consume is a bit of pastry and coffee. I won't say I was the sharpest nail in the box at school, but I was among them, and with little effort. If a doctor told me to give up alcohol salt, sugar, tobacco, chocolate, whatever or I would die, I'd say, 'Right you are, Doc. You're the boss.' But if he asked that I give up coffee... Give me coffee, or give me death! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I love a good cup of strong coffee and while living in Washington State I really got spoiled, no I am not talking about Starbucks. When I moved to Upstate New York the choices were very limited so back to buying Starbuck's for me, until I found Christman Bros., a local roaster out of Philadelphia, NY. Once again all is right with the world.
If this is working for you, that is great yet the Docs are often wrong when they say such shit. Did you give up chocolate?
There is a "mystery" around coffee: no one really wants to tell if long term use of coffee can damage or waste away, in anyway, the CNS just like every other drug does. Caffeine however does in fact give many benefits due to its stimulant effects, but doses should be well monitored and made to fit each individual's tolerance, age and health conditions. all foods and plants have an effect on the body AND on the brain, not just the plainly psychoactive substances/foods. proteins and certain vitamins, just as well as almost all the hormones contained in meats have direct effect on the CNS and endocrine system, changing both our behaviour and development. Having said so, coffee like all other foods should not be under accusation unless abused. The problem with coffee is that it may cause a physical and psychological dependence, so food and pharmaceutical corporations exploit this factor to their advantage, forcing a dependence to this drug (& their products) to whole masses, by adding it wherever they can without any scrupule. (this is also true for other chemicals such as high fructose corn syrup or glutamate monosodium). Anyway, coffee can even improve health and lifestyle, do not underestimate it- it may aid alertness and efficiency in the ever racing society we are all obligated to strive in. As long as the caffeine does not give you any problems such as tachycardia or insomnia, one can consume it safely. coffee is filled with anti-oxidants too and it is much healthier than any tea (white, green or black), to the contrary of what it is believed, because tea is over filled with fluoride which is extremely toxic even at the very lowest levels. Fluoride in tea occurs naturally- it naturally absorbs it from the ground- it's a prerogative of the Camelia Sinensis. personally, I LOVE COFFEE!!!! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
