Those who Post to religious related Threads should include their religion or lack there of & religious training, if any.

I am an atheist who went to schools run by Quaker (Society of Friends) for 16 years.

In both high school & college, I took courses in comparative religion.

The above resulted in my having a better than average knowledge of theology, the Chritsian Bible & some other religous texts.

It seems to me that Christianity is based more on the POV of Paul that that of Jesus.

Jesus seemed to be analogous to Martin Luther, intending to restore/reform some of the Jewish practices of his era rather than intending to start a new religion.

very early on my parents put me in catechism, fortunately my dad traveled a lot and I only had to be guilt tripped for a few years, growing up I attended church sporadically never really being fully aware of things since as a child I was prone to losing myself in my own imagination which saw me through many years of attempted indoctrination. as an adult I tried the Lutheran church and ended up wondering what the point of going to church to listen to gospel when I could just read it on my own so I gave up on organized religion at about 27 and although I believe there is a god, I just figure if I live my life without hurting others or causing too much of a stir, god in whatever form he exists in will hopefully be pleased enough to allow me entrance to whatever club he runs.

Credentials/experience are not even a requirement of the Physics & Math subforum, so it would be silly to require it here.

Jesus was often reported to rebuke his followers for not understanding his message, and I imagine Paul, who did not even know Jesus in life, was no different. But I would not say that he was out to reform Judaism, but rather to complete it. That all Jews were not on board is evident in the branching of Christianity from Judaism, rather than just a new Judaism.

That's the same feeling i have, althought i have not much knowledge on the subject since i abandoned the studies to become an atheist, i came to the same "conclusion" (let's put it this way).
Quite interesting that most of Christians don't know that and also, that it went quite far from Judaism.

Syne:To mention the obvious: Religion is neither math nor physics.
You Posted the above due to the following from a Post of mine.
Until evidence suggests otherwise, we attribute rationality & lack of prejudice to those who Post to Physics/math topics. In a religious Thread, we expect at least some bias & are entitled to extra information.

Example: In a discussion of abortion and/or birth control, it is important to know that a Poster is or is not a Catholic.

Note that I mention being an atheist when posting to Threads relating to religion, philosophy, & ethics.

I hardly ever mention that I majored in mathematics & minored in physics when posting to a math or physics Thread.

You obviously missed the point. Religion is so far from a rigorous subject that requiring credentials/experience would be extremely silly. Especially when SciForums does not even have that as a requirement for its most rigorous subforum.

IOW, it is not going to happen.

    • We do not assume rationality in the Physics & Math subforum, as serious woo is posted there all the time.
    • You are not "entitled" to anything from any other posters.

No, the important thing is the actual merit of their arguments. Whether they are Catholic, Druid, vegan, or whatever makes no difference, and would only serve as fodder to argue their personal characteristics to avoid their actual arguments.

And you are welcomed to do so, and by example perhaps inspire others to follow suit. But no one is obligated to meet your entitled sense of expectation.

And seeing as you have not responded to any of the posts relevant to the title of this thread, it seems your only intent here is to make this unreasonable demand.

They really should, as Jesus often taught:
"Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.…

I was raised atheist, so I had little religious exposure when I was young. Later I rejected atheist modern culture and searched for a religion, which gave me broad exposure to many religions. I now follow the Old Testament.

I fully agree. And it is very unusual for me to agree with anything posted on this forum.

Syne:My intent in starting this Thread was to Post an opinion & find out how many (if any agreed with it)
I never intended to engage in a discussion or argument with anyone who Posted.

Kind of defeats the purpose of a discussion forum.

Sorry about that, Chief: Perhaps I should have posted a poll with various options.

Jesus seems very upset with the pharisees and priest of Judaism,
    he always rebuked them hypocrites.
Jesus is a religious reformer. And he ends up with inventing Christianity, and make himself God.
