Not gay, just happy. I prefer to be humped by human females.

Perhaps, you could tell us what humping a crystal feels like?

If playing games and watching tv is all your intellect allows you to imagine for fun and relaxation, I feel very sorry for you, dude.

No, you're not happy. You're angry. Your anger is the most important part of your reality. You should work on that.

I have these people in my life who are called "friends" and "family." I've known people who took medication for depression. As I said, they had to go to an M.D. Psychotherapists with non-medical degrees are not licensed to write prescriptions.

As for "common knowledge," once again you speak like you've had very little exposure to the real world. You're the first person I've run into in a long time who doesn't understand the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychotherapist, much less the difference between psychiatry (a medical specialty) and psychology (the study of thought and behavior). It actually IS common knowledge!

Then stop writing like a nine-year-old who finds everything just a little too complicated to understand and remember, and instead wastes his time daydreaming about goofy alternatives to reality without even knowing the right words for it. If that's who you really are, I can't imagine what you're doing here since you're getting absolutely nothing from SciForums.

If you're actually an adult pretending to be a slow learner then you deserve all the insults you're getting, for wasting our time.

People who delude themselves into thinking crystals heal their aliments are endangering their own health. "I've got a nagging pain in my side. Ooo..my magic crystal should take care of that! No doctor necessary!" A month later he dies of appendicitus..

We have an evangelical church up here in Oregon that teaches healing by prayer and pouring oil. Some of their members have allowed their children to get sick and even die by not taking them to the doctor. The law has prosecuted them for child neglect/abuse. Absolutely! The right to your own religious beliefs ends where another human's life and health begins. Just another demonstration of the danger of delusional beliefs.

The thread title is about psychology. I think that crystals can work better than psychology, for some people. Fut if you're sick, then you should see a doctor.

    Fragglerocker,
You're hostile, plain and simple. That's what scientism does to people. Scientism & atheism lead you away from happiness. They create anxiety and depression which psychology (psychiatry) wants to treat with medication. It's probably the case that atheism/scientism are mentally unhealthy. Atheism and scientism are nothing more than the practice of hating religion and spirituality, which will itself cause anxiety and depression.

Picture yourself standing next to a lake or ocean as the waves lap up onto the shore...

Religion is the rock, dauntless, steadfast, ages old... Science is the water, shifting, changing, encompassing... eroding the rock away...

A better sense of happiness, aha, so if Santa Claus is giving me a better sense of happiness I should keep believing that he actually exists and is able to succeed in one night only to put Christmas presents under the three of every kid in the world? Your logic is totally out of place.

You don't see anything wrong in boosting ones ego but I see. Boosting ones ego in giving him/her false hopes is not positive boosting of an ego at all.

Experience of EFT, Faith Healing, Crystal 'power' etc., is nothing more then Placibo Effect, and as such there is nothing wrong, but why ascribing these 'special powers' to some mysterious energy (Chi, Prana, etc) out there into the nothingness? No need really.

It becomes the joy of raising kids.
Competitive sports helps. Having a good job helps. Attaining goals and resolving financial issues helps. But I wouldn't be bent all out of shape by someone's hopes or ego.

Only a few people can enjoy the gift of experiences these mysterious energies. They are lucky.

Crystals and holistic therapies don't treat bipolarism, depression, PTSD, OCD, phobias, anorexia, social anxiety disorder, addiction, ADD, or schizophrenia. Meds have a much better track record in this department than any mumbo jumbo your witch doctor can come up with. If you had any experience with mentally ill relatives/friends you'd know this. As it is you only speak from what you know not.

Many religions are projections from deep in the psyche. St Paul, to the Romans, talked about the inner man growing, while the outer man was decaying. He was conscious of an internal firmware updates (inner voice) and attempted to remove the old disconnect of BC projection.

Some holistic therapies can work if they can trigger consciousness to focus. But they work best on psychosomatic conditions that are firmware based. When I was young, I could increase my body temperature, so I could be sick from school; thermometer. This sickness did not need meds to cure since it used firmware, to emulate hardware.

Advances in computers are showing us how to emulate things, with software, that once needed hardware. Sound boards are not the only way to enhance sound. If the sound enhancement software version was messed up, you need a programmer not a tech. The obesity in America is not hardware based, since the DNA did not have time to change this fast. It is firmware based and needs the firmware doctor.

This brings us back to real science of the mind involving direct data and not second data.

How would you know? Do you have any friends who work with crystals? Do they have any of the mental illnesses on your list?

I know if mental illnesses like I listed could be treated with magical crystals it'd be published in scientific journals by now. As of yet no such evidence exists. The only people crystals are making happy are the charlatans who charge people for such therapy and training.

"There is no peer reviewed scientific evidence that crystal healing has any effect. It has been called a pseudoscience. Pleasant feelings or seeming successes of crystal healing can be attributed to the placebo effect, or the believers wanting it to be true and seeing only things that back that up; cognitive bias.[6]

Crystal healing techniques are also practiced on animals, although some veterinary organizations, such as the British Veterinary Association, have warned that these methods are not scientifically proven and thus could cause greater harm if not used in conjunction with conventional, effective medical care."--Wikipedia

"For centuries, crystals and other gems have been desired for their alleged magical healing and mystical paranormal powers. This belief continues today among occultists and New Age healers, even though it is based on nothing more than testimonials, the placebo effect, selective thinking, wishful thinking, subjective validation, sympathetic magic, and communal reinforcement. There is no scientific evidence that crystals are conduits of magical energies useful for healing and protection, or for telling the future.

We can dismiss the pre-scientific belief in the magical powers of crystals and gemstones as due to the lack of scientific knowledge. Modern occultists, however, distort and falsify scientific knowledge in order to promote belief in their crystal products. According to the purveyors of this crystalline pseudoscience, crystals channel good "energy" and ward off bad "energy." They carry "vibrations" that resonate with healing "frequencies," work with the chakras and help balance yin and yang. Crystals allegedly affect the emotions and can be used not only for physical healing, but for emotional problems as well. Crystals can not only help with emotional healing, but with self-expression, creativity, meditation, and the immune system. None of these claims is backed by any scientific evidence."

    MR,
I'm not against effective medical care. In fact I take advantage of it when I can. The benefits of medication for ADD outweigh the drawbacks (for my life); I can't make that decision for somebody else's life. But I did have to go off of the anti-depressants because they weren't benefitting me.

I guess the happiness that comes from crystals is delicate. When hostile people come around and call new agers "charlatins", it just creates a negative environment. Most New Agers prefer just to leave and go somewhere else, where there happiness won't be disrupted. I ask myself why I continue to come here since it blocks me from that pristine happiness. Maybe it's because another part of me likes to argue.

As for cognitive bias, I think that the joy of working with crystals in a spiritual setting outweighs the value of scientific knowledge.

The argument that charging $20 for a crystal, a spiritual reading or any of those other things you don't like just doesn't hold water. What is the difference between spending $20 to see a movie, for dinner, or for activities on a spiritual journey? It's really about whatever that person thinks is most desireable. That's a personal decision.
