have to disagree with you there James, 17 year olds can't get married (can't sign a marriage licence, need court order and I would doubt that would be granted) and 18 year olds really shouldn't because they are to young

you said all other options have no issues. I would say that having 18 year olds getting married would be a problem, especially if it is just because they want sex rather than because they want to be together and for 17 year olds there are legal issues as well as the above ethical and practical ones

I don't think many women would make prostitution their first choice - and I don't think many would call it an "easy life".

I never suggested that prostitutes should feel guilty.

It's just not true that prostitution is a universally demeaning, degrading occupation. I recommend a book by Dolores French called "Working: My Life As a Prostitute." It gives some insight into what a real prostitute thinks about her job - and it's not negative. From a review:

    ===========================================
This smart, witty, and courageous autobiography shatters the stereotypes that most people have of prostitutes. Contrary to popular opinion, the majority of American prostitutes are not abused, exploited, drug-addicted, pimp-controlled street whores with low self-esteem who have turned to sex work in desperation after a lifetime of poverty and violence. Nor is it true that prostitutes are significant transmitters of STDs or responsible for the spread of Aids. Dolores French is refreshingly candid, passionate, possesses a deep sense of justice, and genuinely enjoys what she does for a living (and how many people can honestly say that about their jobs?). While acknowledging that prostitution--like any other profession--isn't for everyone, she argues convincingly that women should be free to choose prostitution as a career without having to fear stigmatization, discrimination, police harassment, arrest, and incarceration for doing something that would be perfectly le! gal if they didn't have the audacity to charge for it. Like other sex workers' rights activists, she favors decriminalization rather than legalization.
"Working" is a perfect blend of engrossing autobiographical storytelling (Dolores has worked as an escort, in brothels, out of apartments, and on the street; she has worked in the U.S., the Carribbean, and in Europe--and she has plenty of fascinating tales to tell) and facts & stats about prostitution. This book is essential reading for anyone who's ever wanted to know what it's really like to work as a prostitute, and it should be required for individuals who are making and debating laws and policies pertaining to prostitution.
    ===================================================

The problem in your scenario above is not the prostitute, it's the lying about it.

Do you feel the same way about actors, singers, models, stage performers etc? All of them are used for some part of them - their body, their face, their sexiness, their voice. Are most of them lacking in self esteem?

Read the above book. Very illuminating.

Where I live, there are no legal issues with 17 year olds engaging in consensual sex with other 17 year olds. I already agreed with you about the marrying for sex thing.

    arauca,

So you're saying it's fine for you to sleep with other women behind your wife's back, but it's a sin or something to masterbate?

95% of men masterbate, and most of the other 5% are lying when they say they don't.

A good reason to get married might be that you want to share your life with the person you're marrying. It could be that you care about them, or even love them, and not in the same way you love your puppy.

Have you heard of love, arauca, or is everything just about sex for you?

So if a woman flirts with you, that means you can force her to have sex against her will. Is that right?

I have no problem with you going to as many brothels as you like, as long as you don't rape any of the women there.

I do have a problem with you sneaking around behind your wife's back and sleeping with other women. A marriage is supposed to be a committed relationship, isn't it?

All I can say is that it is no wonder you are divorced.

Some religion would call it an annulment, I call it adultery which is sin and that what I have done . My problem in the first marriage that I was young and smart and in love (Your way ) . In my subsequent was to find a wife which have fear of God . and our courtship was short.

why? if your under 18 you can't sign most contracts, why would a marriage license be any different. If people under 18 are going to get married you need the permission of the court (family court I believe but it could be supreme court) and I would highly doubt it would be granted because I would assume there ruling would be "what would the harm be in waiting?"

oh and I'm a guy, not a lady

arauca, I'm in a good relationship now and I believe chemistry and sex is valuable in a healthy relationship. But, do you ever reflect on the fact that maybe you place an undue emphasis on it? I ask this because there is an implication in your posts (not just in this thread) that a man can't possibly be expected to restrain himself or refrain from sex, if he has an urge. He must have a woman at all times, whether she be a wife, gf, prostitute, etc..he must be able to have access to a woman whenever his urge strikes! lol

I personally don't find that way of viewing sexuality, to be a balanced one. Post #33 is the main reason I bring this up to you. I enjoy sex and feel it's a great thing in a healthy relationship, but there have been times when I've gone without...and alas! I've survived.

No, man cal last for months been restrained , you respect if a person feel sick, ( I did ) But wen the so called sickness is an attitude , then the individual starts look for remedy . The problem become visible when a person continually shows lack of interest , or complains a lot it makes unpleasant so the interest in time gets lost , so then you just live like with a sister .

    Interesting
Most would pay legaly for "sex" if they can't get any. But if not some would stoop to rape.

Lust is a terrible crime and sin.
And memories may destroy ones self.

Indeed. When interviewed, hookers routinely note that a large number of their clients simply take them out to dinner, talk, and say goodbye afterward. They just want female companionship and, for any of a thousand strange reasons, they can't find a way to get it without paying for it.

As I noted earlier, a lot of university students in Nevada work in the legal brothels. They like the money, they like the fact that they can work at night when classes are out and can sit and do homework while waiting for the next client. They just don't find the "sex for hire" aspect to be nearly as horrible as you do. "The men want the sex and I want the money. What's the big deal?"

Women have been trading sexual favors for money, a home, protection, a father for their children, etc., since the Bronze Age. There are always some who find it to be a distasteful but unavoidable compromise, and there are always some who think "Geeze, this is easy. Guys are chumps!" Please don't assume that everyone is like you. We're all different.

Several women have admonished me, "Ya know, we are a whole lot stronger and sturdier than you give us credit for. So please allow us to make our own decisions. You guys have to tote guns and go off to foreign countries and kill people. Having sex for money is much easier, safer, and more honorable than that!"

The people in Nevada seem to think it is an improvement. Their hookers don't transmit STDs, they don't have pimps running their lives, and they have health insurance and 401(k)s.

You're entitled to your opinion but that doesn't automatically make you right.

In general, the women in Nevada do not feel "degraded." It's a job. There are lots of people in America with jobs that they do find degrading!

Not all women feel the way you do about sex. Duh?

Old Fox thanks for your input .
Once in my life as I was young I attempted to rescue a soul : She cursed me from my toes to my head . So I just let them alone.
I heard about students of sex for money . which is no different the pick up an overnight stand.

I'll give you another perspective, wegs. Prostitution is a way for women to support themselves even when they have no other skills. Not all prostitutes have a horrible, abusive past or do drugs. Some escorts can make $1000+ in a day. Some women with normal jobs fly to Vegas a few times a year to boost their incomes by part-timing prostitution.

Saying that they don't want to isn't much of an argument...many (most?) people don't want to go to work either. You're fixating on the women being "used" but the same could be said of the men...perhaps even more convincingly. Men are biologically burdened with desires and are willing in some cases to spend many days' worth of pay for 30 minutes of a female's companionship. These women are exploiting these men and their biological hungers.

If women viewed prostitution as being bad for society the solution is pretty simple: get promiscuous! If sex was free and readily available for everyone then the market would collapse.

*Yes I'm being tongue-in-cheek on a couple of things above so don't get too upset
