I have a Circle [CM 325] 5 button mouse. The issue that has cropped up is basically this -

Its buttons should be mapped and function like so -

Instead, what happens is this -

I have been using 3 button mice previously and have simply plugged the last one out and plugged this 5 button in. This issue is not a hardware one [the 5 button mouse works as intended on my Laptop but not on my PC].
    What do I do?

    Two options:

    • Re-map buttons through the mouse control panel
    • Update mouse drivers

You can usually find the mouse control panel through Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Mouse, this should identify if you have the correct drivers installed and give you options for altering the mouse. Alternatively sometimes mouse manufacturers have their own software sometimes it can be used to just adjust the settings, sometimes it actually has to run in the background for the mouse to function correctly. (Check to see if you've recently turned off such software from boot-up)

As for updating the drivers, what you'd need to do is find your model of mouse and the support software page, download the correct drivers for your OS and store them somewhere you can find easily (even on a USB stick or SD card) You'll need to delete the currently active driver and then go through the process of auto-detecting that a new driver is needed, at which point install manually from your stored source. (This is just to make sure you have a clear installed device and don't leave any "zombie" occurrences of drivers for devices that aren't fitted or working properly)

Try those points out and if it still fails report your findings back here and we'll see what can be done.

aaqucnaona, the company that manufactures that mouse has a spotty reputation for it's products - some are just not built to a "hard use standard", if you will.

Try what Stryder mentioned above, if that does not help, try plugging the mouse into a different USB port - or possibly, it may just not be completely or properly plugged into its current port.

To be completely honest, from the symptoms you describe - it may very well be a hardware issue instead of a software (or driver) issue. Some of Circle's products use inferior components/assembly and quality control seem severely lacking when you look "under the hood".

If Stryder's recommendations do not pan out, or the physical connection is not the problem - possibly, if purchased by a major credit card - you may have some recourse with card issuer, if you have only owned it for a few months or so.

    Good Luck!
