Are you saying making nations into autocracies will improve there economy and that is the ultimate good? So like when 1930's Germany became an autocracy it was 'great' and other nations should do the same?

It could vary well be that these nations would have grown economically no matter who was in charge, in the case of Zimbabwe there was nowhere to go but up. Autocracy probably did help Russia, raise nationalist sentiment of a population raises its collective moral above the very high suicide rate, alcoholism and negative population growth that were signs of its collective 'depression', but that does not mean the outcome will all good.

Hitler made great improvements in Germany's economy too.
This type of leader is good in a crisis.
But when the crisis is over they won't go away.

 

Often they are preceded by weak, indecisive leaders.
Then the people are more willing to accept a demagogue.

No-one remembers the leaders before Hitler and Stalin.
The leader before Churchill is only remembered because of his pathetic piece of paper.

The leader before Hitler, Kurt von Schleicher, (heard of him?) also wanted a right wing autocracy.
He failed because he was a military man, not a politician.

No that won't work. To fight fire one uses fire. To fight toxic gas one must use toxic gas. I recommend sprayng all of Syria with cocktale of:

•Thioxanthenes
•Butyrophenones
•Phenothiazines
•Piperazine compounds
•Piperidine compounds

Better know as sedatives and tranquilizers.

I'm with Billy T on this: if there was a 'stupidifying' gas, we should be using it on these people to keep them from killing each other! Quick get a fleet of cargo planes to rain down tons and tons of smoking hashish on them!

 

That is a rather unique solution to the war!

I'd say it's a good option. We just need to dope the dope with something that prevents it from working on child soldiers.

Edit: On a more serious note, I have this pet theory that the USSR could have averted collapse simply by legalizing drugs.

 

Let's not forget the underlying unsustainable injustices that anyone could use to get the same results.

Demonize a wealthy section of the population and frame them and execute/murder them and confiscate their wealth. Instant money for the dictator coffers and militarization of the economy into full employment based on further conquest further afield to obtain even more through murder and terror/takeover of other counties/populations.

That is what the Roman Emperors did when they wanted more money/military expansion.

That is what Hitler did.

That's what Stalin did.

That's what Putin did recently to the wealthy Oligarchs he framed, murdered, imprisoned etc. and confiscated their wealth for his own/friends personal enrichment/power and for the political machinery which still treats its citizens little better than Stalin did.

All of them were unsustainable because eventually the oppressed numbered too many and reached the point where they had nothing more to lose by rebelling and destroying all that the dictatorships/empire built on murder of its own citizens/neighbours and confiscation of others wealth thereby.

So, any 'leader' can 'solve problems' that way.

It doesn't take genius, only ruthlessness and deep depravity of conscience on a national level, usually through keeping honest citizens in the dark as to what is really happening until it's too late for anyone to do anything about it 'or else' join the murdered and contributing their own little confiscated wealth to the dictatorship.

Just saying/reminding us of the real method and the history of such 'leaders', mate! Anyone could have done the same, if they were as insane and murderous as them. They were 'special' in that way only. No room for that in this day and age of globalization of trade, communications etc etc.
