I will kindly ask dmoe and arauca to "take it outside" please and leave this thread to just the discussion?

arauca, my contributions may not ever match the level of eloquence or intelligence of your Post #20...but, I'll give it a shot.

It would seem that several current and historical instances of colonialism/conquest lead to a high incidence of attempted destruction of the previous peoples, cultures, religions, myths, ways of life and the then current or even archaeological artifacts.

The indigenous peoples of the Americas - Northern, Central and Southern - seem to have both, suffered these attempted destructions and continue to suffer them, yet today.

Although, not in the Americas, here is an example of the attempted destruction that I speak of, that is more or less, current, and the supposed rationale behind it and the historical aspects of it. :

arauca, would what I have Posted herein qualify as an answer to your query?

This is the most accurate info I could find for the earliest settlers in Canada. This group traveled a lot, into PA...and other northern parts of the US. It's an interesting read. Something I thought was interesting that I ran across...the early settlers of PA they can only trace back 1000 years. Just doesn't seem like a whole lot of time when you think about the bigger picture. Thanks for enjoying my hobby with me, everyone; it's so awesome to see you guys enthused about this stuff, as I am!

RD...thanks for your post above, I'll check it out. I'm having computer problems at home today, trying to open links and attachments on here, is proving a daunting task. :/

    dumbest man on earth;

Okay, I read the article...wow. I just want to cry reading this; it's particularly distressing to me. There's nothing anyone can do to stop this?

I'm not sure I'd run across this on my own...so thank you for posting it, truly.
They are calling it 'archaeological terrorism.' And frankly, something we all should be concerned with because it touches us all, on some level. A ripple effect...if it can be carried out there, who's to say elsewhere this won't happen?

This is wrong. I've been very into archaeology for a while, and believe in preserving its integrity. I'm just saddened to read this.

Unfortunately, this is very reminiscent of what the Spanish did to the Aztec, Maya and Inca. So much history and culture was lost...

Temples were usually desecrated and religious art destroyed... as in the link.

wegs, I did not intend to sadden you.
Having said that I should be honest with you and point out that the article is from 03/22/2001, and it actually happened - it was not stopped. It happened after the Russians were "bankrupted" out of Afghanistan - when the "Taliban" seized control - and prior to the United States rushing in, to give it, it's best shot at being "bankrupted" because of Afghanistan. But, I digress...
If one cares/dares to look at what has happened in Iraq or Libya or many other countries/areas in recent years or even currently in Egypt, Lebanon, Syria...well...
This has happened too many times throughout history, along with other natural disasters and cataclysms, so what little remains, that was either hidden or missed, is and will continue to be slowly rediscovered.
Alas, many civilizations may be lost to the "sands of time" or always be shrouded in the mysteries that only a few fragmented remains produce.

With awareness, knowledge and wisdom comes a bit of sadness - but peace of mind, serenity and grace are the larger rewards.

That's true, cultures come and go. And conquerors have always desecrated temples and destroyed religious icons. The point was, it's still going on.

Vandalism has been going on for some time in history, but...when vandalism transcends to relics and historical artifacts, it becomes a different thing, do you agree? To think that centuries of information can just be stolen or destroyed in the blink of an eye, is so unsettling to me.

I find it so tragic as I say above to gmilam, that the answers that can be found in these great archaeological finds, to just disappear in an instant, is heart breaking. Not to mention all the damn work that went into discovering these great treasures. I digress, too! :/

    yes, i agree.
    yep

Okay...on a high note, going to share with you something I ran across in searching for information for someone else. Check out this link pertaining to Hawaii and the timeline of the earliest settlers. It was too kewl to not share with all of you enthusiasts.

Every state in the U.S. has its own personal past waiting to be discovered by you, if you just take the time to explore within the wonderful world of archaeology.
