I am going to forward the "ghost" image to a friend who is a professional photographer, he has around 70 years experience. Let us just see what he says. Not that this would necessarily, be definitive but it actually may be a definitive conclusion. I will ask about the main object and the secondary "orbs". Hopefully, he will respond quickly.

If whining about whiny posts is just as whiny, then why are you whining about them?

That's a lovely strawman you have there. The ridiculous should be ridiculed, and you are the one who is ignorant of science and what could constitute reliable evidence.

You have a moral mandate to ridicule people? What teaching of Taoism supports THAT kind of self-serving behavior?

I, for one, look forward to hearing what he has to say!

You can discern whether to trust someone's word or not when it comes to this, but no one "should" be ridiculed.
Just because we have the capacity to do something, doesn't always mean that we should.

    Just sayin'

People should be able to disagree without becoming offensive.

Mr Bond is very insulting to sceptics.
If he wasn't "licensed to kill", I would call him outside for a punch-up.

    Ridiculous ideas should be ridiculed.

Yes, of course we do. It's no less moral than helping the poor. It's a form of education. I just can't help helping you to understand your intellectual flaws. I would like to point out that you are the one contributing to the terrorizing of children. Proliferating the idea of invisible dead people is nothing less than evil.

    That ^^ was uncalled for...seriously.
    And a ridiculous rebuttal.

Paranormal activity is not magical realist's "idea."
It is not an "idea" at all.

Spidergoat, you are a very smart and clearly educated man. There's no reason to mud sling and say things that have no place here.
    So, pls stop.

It is almost impossible to frame together two images without distortion showing in the pixels. The pixels here are the same size.

The only other way would be to distort the contrast, shade, or color of the image. In which case an amorphous figure with detail and gradient hue is more impossible than pixel distortion.

But a reflexion off a shiny object back into the camera lens can create interesting effects.

Thanks, but I was one of those kids victimized by superstitious stories (not by my parents thankfully) told as truth. It's a form of bullying to keep children fearful and obedient. Attacking skepticism as egotism is another form of bullying.

    Was my post a whine?

Or are we going to have to point out what "Intellectual Dishonesty" means?

You are right on with this one Spidergoat. I was a victim of this magical thinking as are my nieces and nephews currently. I closely supervised my children's visits to my mothers house because of the kind of crap she dished up as reality. If one does not think it hinders critical thinking skills then just have a conversation with my family and you will know the damage this can do.

    I don't disagree, quinnsong.

My childhood holds with it some bad memories, for different reasons, and they can shape our thinking.
    For better or for worse.

I don't think however that magical realist is doing anything diabolical.

    Anyways...

Belief in magic is behind many problems in the world today. The magic of the free markets, the magic of technology to save us from resource scarcity, the magic of a savior, the magic of evil spirits (for which many innocent people in the 3rd world are murdered), the magic of an afterlife (so this life becomes less important). If we are to grow up as a species, we need to give up childish things.

    This touched me.
Who would have thought, that a bunch of pragmatic scientists would tap into my emotions the way you all have.

And who woulda thunk that this topic would have brought us here.

    Anyways....

You will be brought "here" just about every time at sci forums.

Reason and evidence is a prerequisite, but it does not mean that Magical Realist cannot present his opinions and experiences, nor does it mean that Magical will not be ridiculed for them.

Personally, some of the best debates get rather nasty and I have laughed out loud at the extent of some of the very intellectual but nasty insults. I read Magical Realist's posts often, he/she knows what to expect by now, I am sure. What I am trying to say is these guys are salty

    OK everyone.

I went by his house and told him to check his email. He opened the email with the image attachment right in front of me.

I asked so it's a ghost? He said sarcastically "yeah".

I said - So how is it done?

His brief explanation (seconds after looking at it):

Paraphrasing: "You take more than one image, one image is regular exposure with no one in the image and the other with someone in the image is under exposed. The under exposed comes like a ghost" then it is a matter of layering them together.

I didnt want to ask too many questions but that was basically all there is to it. No Photoshop necessary, can do it all in a darkroom with film. I asked about the other objects - all has said was "Photoshop"...LOL.

He has many MANY hours taking and developing pictures and has worked for the government, knows probably every single photography "trick".

Personally it is good enough to convince me 100% it is a camera trick. He had no hesitation and was very matter of fact, in other words no problem reproducing one like it.

I may ask him about another famous "ghost" pic. If i do i may post the explanation here. The pic in questions like i said is very famous and can find it instantly in google image.
