I don't think the phrase "The sky is falling" was made by chicken little. I think it really question the validity of the source.
This story is older than the Roman Empire and has been retold all over the world. But in the standard version of the tale told in the USA, it is indeed Chicken Little who proclaims "the sky is falling" after an acorn falls on his head. "The sky is falling" has been established as an idiom in the English language. It refers to a hysterical, mistaken belief that disaster is near. The hysteria about the Mayan calendar was a "Chicken Little" event, since it was based on the faulty scholarship of laymen. But contrary to the smug after-the-fact dismissals of laymen, the hysteria about Y2K was not a "Chicken Little" event. We in the IT industry (including every retired programmer who could still read code) had to identify every information system on earth, rate the level of damage it could generate if it failed due to millennium-incompatible code, prioritize it for analysis, and hope that our incompetent managers had given us enough time to fix all the ones that could have caused the worst damage. We barely succeeded, as an endless stream of not-quite-critical systems did indeed fail throughout 2000 and on into 2001. That sky almost fell. My favorite was our bank, which didn't send out a correct mortgage statement throughout 2000... which, by the way, apparently had 13 months. However, they were able to keep their ATMs in operation.
That is why I thought it was wrong. I had heard this idiom before I heard of Chicken Little. I have also seen it in movies that where supposed to be chronologically correct as a joke of a natural phenomena and people panicking that it was due to the sky falling.
To understand the Apocalypse, you need think in terms of symbolism instead of staying literal. It is more right brained 3-D. The sky is falling. The term blue sky research is about research that is way out there. Like the sky, it is not yet grounded within science, it is in the sky; imagination. If the sky falls, that would imply the blue sky thinking comes closer to the earth; starts to become reality. At one time, tiny cells phones were things of science fiction existing in the ozone layer of the imagination. The technology was not there. This blue sky thinking has touched the earth and has become real. The symbolism of the great earthquake is similar. The earth symbolizes instinct but also ideas which are solid and tangible. A great earthquake shakes the very foundations of thinking. As an analogy, say there was a new source of energy that is so cheap. This would shake the entire energy industry. What appeared so solid and enduring, would collapse to its very foundations. in the case of prophesies there is another line of thinking that would be challenged and shaken to its very foundations. Hail coming from the sky; water symbolizes thoughts. Like the ocean, thoughts are plentiful and run deep. Hail is solid water. It is not just thoughts but tangible thoughts that are well proven; like a water version of stone. This come from the sky to earth. instead of forming on the land, which is normal, they come from the imagination fully assembled.
