I dont know if this is the right forum, but I could do with some help.

I am going to be studying soon and I am having difficult deciding between biology or human biology. I dont know what I intend to do in the future, but given my exp and qualifications I would say its more in science/health environment, right now i'm not sure if thats where I want to go.

Anyway, I have looked at both courses at the uni I plan to go, and they are quite similar in the 1st and 2nd yrs apart from the 1 or 2 compulsory modules for each subject, they are pretty much similar and 3rd year is more specialised but I still have options to choose same modules from both subjects.

I'm going to be studying psychology aswell (its part of the dual honours degree)

SO what do you guys think?

Human biology is contained within general biology at the onset so I would suggest the biology classes first. They seem a likely prerequisite to human biology classes.

    Psychology is another topic altogether.

both, and i will add a third, biotechnology.
in my opinion biotechnology will redefine what we now call "resources".

The study of "biology" is the study of all living things - that means plants, animals and various other things we are not so sure about. It familiarizes you with the basic stuff that are common to all living things, a necessary prerequisite to the more specialized topic of "human biology" which is a special field within the more general field of "biology".

If you want to work with people in health/science/medical fields then you will indeed be 'working with plants' as well, though not the same way that a farmer would. Example: bacteria are plants, bacteria make people sick - sick enough to die. Plants give us medications that can kill those bacteria and make the affected person well. Herbal medicine is a huge field and it is almost entirely based on plants and plant products.

I completed the requirements for 4 different major fields to obtain my most recent university degree. If I took 2 more 4 credit undergraduate classes I would finish 2 more multiple major '3 tier science' degree requirements. There is no need for you to over - specialize this early in your university education, you will need to study a lot of topics that are seemingly not directly related to your chosen field, though some may come in handy later on in your career.

I think general biology is going to be a pre-req anyway. So you are going to get a general, well-rounded education in biology before moving into a specialized field.

yeah, well there are no pre reqs, so I can choose either along side my psych subject. I want to work in health etc, so are you saying I should go for bio over human bio?

Yeah thats what I thought, btw there are no pre reqs, I though that bio it would give me a rounded knowledge and I could just choose more physiological modules instead of plants etc, I just want to make sure its the right choice as I wondered that the stuff covered in human bio would be more suited to my later career choices ( if I they do come along) and also whether the employer would prefer a grad with the bio subject or human bio in a health setting?

I had similar interests when I fisrt started college. Have you looked into the field of Bio-psychology? If I were you I would take a career development course first. Figure out what you want to do first. If you want to make money with a Biology degree, it will take at least a Master's. You could make money with much less education by sticking to the health field. The health field will have plenty of biology courses. Nurses make good money and are in high demand! The same with Dental Hygienists. Have you got your general studies out of the way? If not, I'd find a good community college and save your money. I found that for half the money I got a higher quality education at Lewis and Clark Community College, than I did when I transferred to University of Missouri @ St. Louis. For instance, at the UMSL, we had to clean all our lab glass when finished. At LCCC, we could just toss them into the glass bin, and they recycled them. Clean up time cuts into our education time. Furthermore, everything at LCCC was state of the art as they are building to become a four year university. UMSL was a dump in comparison. I think college is a big scam really. If I were you I'd learn what you can on your own. See what classes you can clep test for, buy the book for that class, and teach yourself. You'll save a great deal of money and time. Well, I'm assuming that you are smart. Some people struggle in college even when they study hard. Those kind of learners are better suited taking the class. Anyway, hope this helps and good luck to you!
