I have to agree. The guy is an idiot. What is truly amazing about this whole episode is how Snowden ever received a top secret clearance. Back in the day when I was in the service, they took top secret clearances seriously. That no longer appears to be the case as evidenced by Snowden.
That was my experience also. A clearance of any kind was sort of a rarity and the most common was just a "Confidential."
America tends to torture people like that for the rest of there lifes. America can target you anywhere on earth. The geezer only confirmed what people said, so its not ground breaking. They only kill people that are whistle blowers that give out details of there real plans, and very few people know there real plans. So this guy wasted his time just telling what he did, although he just confirmed it for the masses whom do not want to believe the gov would do such things. No where on earth is anyone safe from america with the techs they have. That geezer should know if he worked at nsa what they can do to people no matter where they are. Him and assange have really given nothing to the population. It also shows how very few people really know there true plans. They only kill people outright if they give out there plans, and given out that info is a threat to those plans. Otherwise like snowden, they normally torture you for the rest of your life, and they can target you anywhere on earth.
The intelligence world is very short lived, information only has relevance for a small duration of time, then it becomes stale, outdated and no longer usable. (Just look at a war fought under the pretence of WMD's being existent) In the case of Snowden there is the initial impact, a bunch of orders generating a bit of hush, the general viral consensus that no hush order can silence and then an X factor winner that's got a new song, a new voice and is spammed all over the tabloids. Then the public start erecting crucifixion poles making claims about the singer, the X factor contest and why the price of fish is higher than normal. Peoples attention span is easily meandering and readily misdirected with the simplest of things. Therefore the true combative form in the intelligence war is just to wait for something more mindblowing (like a cat taking a picture of itself) to come about and cause the general public to move it's attention elsewhere. In 30 years time will they consider Snowden's act another "Watergate" or just something that happen "on this day 30 years ago". (Warhol said everyone will have 15 minutes of fame, the question in the intelligence community is whether 15 minutes is too long to plug leaks or not long enough for leaks?)
I watched Fox News this morning as I ate breakfast. They were dissing Obama as weak and incompetent because Obama said he would not scramble jets in order to get Snowden. According to Fox News, the competent thing to do is to scramble the jets and get Snowden regardless of the cost. What Fox apparently doesn’t understand is that Snowden has already inflicted the damage. There isn’t much more Snowden can do to damage this country. Fox doesn’t think Snowden hasn’t already revealed whatever secrets he has to China and Russia in order to protect his ass…really? That is so emblematic of the magical and naive thinking that Fox and their viewers are so well renowned – living in their alternative reality. I have a son serving in the military. He holds a top secret clearance. Back when I was in the service, FBI agents came out and talked to family and friends as part of a top security background clearance. In my son’s case that didn’t happened. If it had, I am sure he would have passed. But it didn’t happen. How many others are there who have shoddy security clearances and are holding top security clearances? And to Read-Only’s point, when I was in the service my son’s position would not warrant a top security clearance. My son’s job is to prosecute service members who have been charged with violating articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. At best his job would require a confidential clearance. For those not familiar with US security clearances, there are three levels, confidential, secret and top secret.
Notice how Americans here quickly ruled Snowden as an "idiot" and "how he ever received security clearance", rather than simply admit the faults in their own NSA security system and that of its subsiduary companies like Booz Allen Hamilton. What is more pathetic is the total dismissal of the reason for such an issue being raised to an international level...The Nazist like government with total undermining of civil rights and corporate-level slavery of its citizens. That is what that court order was about, total control of the citizens. Where is your freedom now? What are the founding fathers thinking of now?

He could have easily found other means of exposing what he CLAIMS to know without putting himself in danger. And Booz Allen Hamilton is most certainly NOT a subsidiary of NSA! I'm sorry, but he wasted his breathe and life. Who here is surprised that the NSA eavesdrops, tracks, and investigates people without warrants? It seems more surprising that people find this surprising. How many terrorist attacks have been thwarted by this level of intrusion? I'm all for this level of intrusion if it saves lives PROVIDED no one individual can use such information to blackmail, coerce, or otherwise bully someone they know. I'd hate to think they could use this technology to check up on their wives or romantic interests.
Ah but you are joining my ranks man, you are making Snowden look good in some light. We were not supposed to know and have evidence that our government is spying on us, its all part of national security. Car tracking, email tracking, data tracking, every part of the privacy in our life isnt private, it is all being stored, for national security. People talking about government spying on them is against the law too, for national security. And me, well I just plainly don't make sense. When truth is unwanted to be known, it is easy to call one crazy and a fool for the sake of the argument.
