Why don't homosexuals want to define their own term for a civil union. Wouldn't this show they have consideration for others? Or do they have no consideration for others and like a virus wish to damage a healthy cell that does not want to invaded?

Marriage was originally a religious institution, which was integrated into the secular. It is sort of like the Christmas tree ending up in the town square. Since many argue that Christmas tree violates separation of church and state, if one person complains, one could use the same tactic to separate marriage out of the town square.

In my last post I gave an example of how our founding society defined the age of consent in regards to marriage and sexual relations. Our modern interpretation has deemed that traditional model as flawed, and now considers adult status as an essential condition of consent. How does that leave the door open for pedophilia?

And the Earth use to be considered the center of the solar system, institutions tend to evolve with reason, marriage is just another example. It makes no sense to try to draw irrelevant pathogenic parallels. Should I be offended as a human being because the term defecation is also used to describe waste elimination by dogs and cats?

Gay adults and interracial adults should by law be entitled to the same rights of consent as any other type of adult couples. That condition was realized to be valid for racialy mixed couples in the 60's, and is in the process of being realized for gay couples today. If you can't see the similarity, then maybe it's time for the blinders to come off.

Pedophilia is an example of putting one's own sexual desires above the wellbeing of another person. Homosexuality is not (no more than heterosexuality is anyway). The fact that you didn't recognize this distinction for yourself makes you look morally insensitive, if not deficient.

Oh…duh! I can’t believe I did that. That’s what you call an atheist assumption.

“If others tell us something we make assumptions, and if they don't tell us something we make assumptions to fulfill our need to know and to replace the need to communicate. Even if we hear something and we don't understand we make assumptions about what it means and then believe the assumptions. We make all sorts of assumptions because we don't have the courage to ask questions.”

Why does everyone always assume that I’m a man?

No it wasn't, and besides, marriage predates Christianity. Why do we tend to use the past to justify present day behaviors anyway? It’s a slippery slope. If we assume in a traditional sense that marriage only serves as a procreative purpose, and by redefining it, it will change the intent, then perhaps we shouldn't allow old people, or even infertile couples to marry.

Otherwise known as an appeal to tradition or appeal to ancient wisdom. In either case, it's essentially an appeal to authority, and thus to support such an argument one must demonstrate the legitimacy of the authority being appealed to. But all we typically ever see is circular reasoning.

No, because the nature of your arguments betray you. This isn't a carefully considered moral stance for you, nor is it even a default religious one ("the bible says it's wrong so it's wrong" for example). Your stance against homosexuality is clearly driven partly by your own sexual preferences (what does and doesn't disgust you) and partly by ignorance and fear. This is why you go and make absurd errors like equating homosexuality with pedophilia. You just haven't evolved beyond having "men sucking each others cocks makes me want to throw up" as the cornerstone of your arguments yet.

    I'm sorry, what?

Sexual relationships between consenting adults is nowhere near the same as pedophilia. At all. How you can even compare the two is beyond me.

Gays aren't using interracial marriage laws. They are demanding equal human rights. Sex between consenting adults is not illegal or immoral.

Or are you against interracial marriage as well now?

Because gay marriage doesn't affect your marriage. Are you afraid people will ask you whether you are married to a man or woman?

Because Gay marriage is the same as straight marriage. If you disagree, do point out the differences.

Absolutely not. It would only show that they, as a minority, were forced by vocal homophobes into accepting a "seperate but equal" demand. Imagine it this way - would Blacks be "considerate" to have their own parks and restrooms and restaurants?

Their backs must have hurt your knife quite a lot.

Oh but that metaphor fails on many levels.

Firstly, gay marriage is not an Invasion into marriage. Is a simple redefinition of a concept in a move to keep up with moral progress. Tell me, are you religious? Do you think morality to be fixed and unchanging? If so, I wonder what you would have said about Blacks in 1920s. Actually, I dont need to - everything you have said about gays is in the same as what the racists had said for a long time.

Secondly, how is gay marriage damaging your marriage?

Thirdly, describing homosexuals as a virus assumes both that gays are something that is inherently undesirable & harmful and something that propagates - and alarmingly so, unless we do something about it. This is clearly not the case.

So were most things - religion was everywhere - a prophet in every town, a priest behind every leader and a religious inspiration for every philosophical thought. And we grew out of it. Today religion has little to with marriage. And marriage isnt inherently or necessarily religious.

    :bugeye: What?

Just curious, but what exactly is the harm that homophobes think gay marriage will have on them or society? The Netherlands has had gay marriage for 13 years now. How are they doin? Just fine..

    OTOH:

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- "Gay marriage is generating millions of dollars for New York City's economy.

Since gay marriage was legalized in New York state a year ago, marriage license fees, local celebrations and wedding-related purchases have boosted New York City's economy by $259 million, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn announced Tuesday.

"Marriage equality has made our City more open, inclusive and free -- and it has also helped to create jobs and support our economy," Mayor Bloomberg said in a statement.

More than 8,200 same-sex marriage licenses have been issued over the past year, representing more than 10% of the 75,000 licenses issued in the city, according to a survey conducted by the City Clerk's Office and NYC & Company, the city's tourism and marketing organization."--http://money.cnn.com/2012/07/24/pf/gay-marriage-economic-impact/index.htm

Bullshit. I suspect humans were pairing up into couples long before religion came along.

Just trying to make a point that there IS strange sh*t that parades behind the rainbow banner. I think it's safe to say that LGBT movement is, by its own nature, a magnet for wackos.

Note: I apologize if the the link was inappropriate. I simply did a Google search and that's what popped up.

I imagine because they want the same rights everyone else does. Not an unreasonable request.

Would you be OK eliminating marriage and calling all such unions civil unions? If not, why not? Do you have no consideration for others?

Uh, no, marriage was a human institution that was integrated into religion.

A better solution is to tolerate the Christmas tree in the town square because a lot of people like it there, and to tolerate gay marriage because a lot of people like it.

The meaning of the word marriage has changed to fit the times we are
living in.It's not a matter of "should it be changed". It HAS been changed. And
    thank goodness for that.

No longer is it exclusive to a religious ritual. Couples can now marry
in a secular proceeding conducted by a justice of the peace.

No longer are sons and daughters forced to marry by prearrangement by
their families. Couples can now choose to shack up totally on their own.

No longer is marriage just about procreating the species. Many couples
marry, have sex, and still refrain from procreating out of the free
choice given them thru birth control.

No longer is marriage ended in divorce only on the condition of
adultery. Couples now have the freedom to divorce simply because they
    choose to.

And no longer is marriage restricted exclusively to heterosexual
couples. Gay couples can now legally marry in 11 states and many
countries across the world. It's just a fact that it doesn't mean what
it used to mean. So get used to it

No more than heterosexuality is. How many heterosexual pedophiles are out there? How many websites specializing in rape fantasies, scatophilia, bestiality, fetishism. etc? Sexuality itself attracts wackos, regardless of the orientation.
