It is also possible that England has much less birds per square miles.....

    It just might be.

I was surprised to find Taurine as one of the ingredients in cat food.

This is one of the main ingredients in energy drinks.

Apparently cats cannot synthesize it and unless they are allowed to hunt, it needs to be added to their food.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taurine

Cats are not vegans although feeding a good cat food with adequate taurine may decrease their need to hunt is at least a logical hypothesis.

The decline in UK farmland birds is quite frightening.
Cats do their part, but they are not the cause of the problem.
Years ago, before the decline, there were many more small farms, and each would have many cats to hunt down rats.

    You could be onto something.
Put Red Bull in the Kitty milk.

I know you're joking, but I just want to point out (to anyone else that might read this thread) that caffeine is rather poisonous to cats.

True. I am joking, but someone might be dumb enough to try it.
Do you know if Red Bull cans can be returned if they aren't used?

Ok, so we got the bell, it is put on, so we shall see the effect. I will report back in 2-3 weeks how many dead animals didn't hear it to ring....

I doubt it will have any effect on mice because cats tend to lay in wait and when they pounce, they seldom miss if they are experienced, so while the mouse may hear the bell as the cat makes it's move, it is unlikely to change the outcome. The bell may be an aid in alerting birds that a cat is on the prowl. It will be interesting to learn what the outcome of this action turns out to be.

    @Enmos
re Your picture of the cat with the Magpies.

I once saw a magpie jump down out of a tree and land right next to a cat.
    I wondered what would happen.
    Nothing.
The cat did not register it at all, or possibly pretended not to see it.
As predators, UK cats are pathetic.
Too much Red Bull in their veins.

I've seen magpies bully cats on several occassions. Ussually in twos or threes. Funny to see

I've heard that a bell only aides the cat in honing its hunting skills.

At least your going to try to stop the killing. As a bird watcher/feeder I appreciate that.

The two bells suggestion is a good idea. They can learn to silence one bell.

Cats and the Internet. The Internet and Cats.
It's a match made in cyber heaven.
What did either do before the other was invented?
