It caused the Titanic disaster. People use it to remove dirt from machinery. You can put out fires with it. It's killed more people than cyanide. On one day alone in 2004, it killed over 230,000 people in fourteen countries, and ruined Christmas.
i do not know how accurate this is but I found this, Dihydrogen monoxide hoax http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dihydrogen_monoxide_hoax but all in all , it appears people want to ban water ?
It's highly toxic - every human who has ever consumed it has died. It has mind altering properies - every violent offender has consumed it at least once. It's highly addictive - Every human who's has tried it at least once has gone on go consume it in greater and greater quantities. What's even more alarming about it is that withdrawl invariably leads to death.
No, I think that any discussion on the merits abd flaws of banning this substance is going to be sufficiently technical as to require a chemist to moderate it effectively, and so it should remain in the chemistry subforum.
I was exposed to this toxic chemical on a daily basis when I was in the Navy. We often used it as a powerful cleaning solvent. The stuff would get all over us. And no amount of showering ever got it off. I still have nightmares about it to this very day.
see you shouldn't have added that last bit because up to then you were being accurate but I highly doubt you have nightmares about it, unless you are aquaphobic of course Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Laboratory tests find high levels of it invariably in inner-city newborns and quite often even in "pristine" mountain streams. It has a long history of use in quack medicine, notably in the Agatha Cristie story "The Blue Geranium". Disturbingly, in the rave culture, clandestine groups of young adults will mix this substance into "cocktails" with mind-altering properties including the administration of quantities of "date rape drugs." It's also used in the technical processing of injectable heroin and similar hard-core drugs.
This is it. It's Horrible! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
This is one of my pet peeves. The assumption that the water out of the ground, or in streams must neccessarily be drinkable or usable. It's not. There is ground water that is that acidic you could almost use it for battery acid, there are streams with so much arsenic in them that a glass would probably kill you, and there are rivers with bacterial counts so high as to be practically unusable for contact recreation. The first two are functions of geology and reflect the chemistry of the underlying rock, the third is because of a gull colony.

This is not true. I have consumed it, yet I live. Bow before your immortal master! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
