Divorce makes a mockery of the system. But the answer is that contracts in the US don't mean the same thing legally as marriage.

I'd like the system to be fair.

How would allowing gay marriage make a mockery of a system?

What's funny? We should be happy for anyone who feels love. There's not enough of it in the world. People waste it on imaginary supernatural creatures like gods and prophets, when it's their fellow humans who deserve it.

Actually many of us would like to see civil unions as the province of the government, a strictly legal ceremony that confers all of the important rights and duties: Mutual support, shared custody of and responsibility for children, hospital and prison visitation, medical decisions, community property, automatic inheritance, no obligation to testify in court, etc.

Then marriage can be defined as a strictly religious ceremony that has absolutely no legal standing. A couple can state their vows in front of a priest for anything they want to commit to: eternal love, obedience, emotional support, attending church every Sunday, playing Dungeons and Dragons every Saturday, never complaining about each other's bad habits, planning a vacation to Tahiti, losing weight, giving up alcohol, etc.

A couple could be married without a civil union so there are no legal obligations. And they could be united in a civil union without a wedding, so they wouldn't have to comply with the rules of some stupid motherfucking church and the Religious Redneck Retards who comprise its congregation.

The liberal concept of fairness, means in their favor at the expense of others. Liberals lack the ability to create their own traditions so they become parasites that complains when a host will not allow it to attach. Marriage is a case in point. The religion host does not want the parasitre to attach and this is unfair to the parasite.

I don't understand why homosexuals follow the liberal parasite template. Gays are very creative and could actually come up with their own version of marriage that would be ground breaking and eventful. Maybe homosexuals need to leave the liberal parasite mentality and start living within their capacity as a new host.

LMAO! I'm pretty sure creativity is not dependent on social ideologies.

And what say ye of Atheists who marry?

Marriage is not about political affiliation. Marriage is open to all ends of the political spectrum... IF you are heterosexual. Marriage, at least here in America, is a legal and binding contract between two people which comes with over 1,300 federal benefits, not to mention the several hundred or so state benefits.

No, it just means freedom. Liberals are not threatened by the freedoms of others. Conservatives feel that if others become more free, they will get less freedom somehow - and they want to keep it all for themselves.

Because the "liberal parasites" gave women the freedom to vote, blacks the freedom to attend schools, blacks the freedom to choose who they marry etc etc. Gays want that freedom, too - and they see how conservatives are constantly trying to remove their hard-won freedoms.

Actually gays are pretty much like everyone else. They have creative types and non-creative types. They have friends and enemies. (One of those enemies are conservatives, who seek to deny them basic rights.)

No! Jesus! What don't you understand about wanting to be EQUAL!?

Why should Joe and Jill be allowed such things and Joe and John can't? Both couples love each other. So what's the issue? I say either give both of them equal rights and equal benefits, or take them all away from everyone.

    Moron.

Japan, which has a fraction of the international power to keep its currency and economy afloat, has significantly more debt per capita, is piling even more on and is still going strong. We're 30 years away from them. The deficit % is shrinking and it will continue to shrink.

Seriously. You lost all credibility there.

    What's human pride?

You do realize that we don't collect social security just because someone dies?

    Moron x 2.

?? It costs money to get married in most places. We paid $40 for our marriage license. Gays just want the same right as anyone else to give the government money and receive a benefit that everyone else gets.

So if you want to be able to marry someone you love, you are a parasite?

Are you a conservative, by any chance?

So you don't believe in any kind of marriage? Or do you only believe in the religious ceremony and not civil marriage?

New York Gay Marriage Brings NYC $259M
    Camira Powell

Legalizing gay marriage in New York City is more than a victory for civil rights; it’s also a big moneymaker. In a recent statement from Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the city received $259 million from the increased number of gay marriages in the past year, which has equated to $16 million in revenue for the city.

Why do anti-human-rights like yourself want to take us further into debt? If you hate the US so much, there are plenty of other countries to live in.

That may be the reason you don't understand why people want basic human rights. You may not have them where you come from, but here we take them quite seriously. If you prefer a country with fewer rights, by all means, have the courage to move there.
