Well, here I am stuck with a New Years hangover. I crave a greasy bowling alley bacon cheeseburger. Is there a scientific reason why someone with a hangover would crave greasy food? Or is it just me? Do others crave a salad?

I know radishes are good for hangovers...
greasy food has fats which line your stomach and intestines, it basically blocks absorption of alcohol and helps with alcohol processing by overall slowing the process of alcohol absorption down.

Superstition ain't the way ... or is it?

In truth, I always recommend pizza, fortified water (e.g., orange juice, Gatorade™), and a hot shower. Rehydration, blood sugar, and opening your pores to expel the alcohol. Yes, there's a bit of superstition in there, but it's the best remedy I know.

The best thing I've come across is slightly-steamed asparagus. I happened upon a news article that said there's an enzyme in it that does the trick.

This link from menshealth.com has a number of helpful suggestions, although I expect at least some are too hungover to read, lol...

As you can tell, I'm not long on sympathy for folly and posting this self-help link is the full extent of my tender mercy.

A little "fur of the dog that bit ya" is an excellent remedy. A Bloody Mary is a suitable choice. The first couple of sips make you want to vomit but all of a sudden you'll feel just fine...
(next time, drink Gatorade BEFORE you go to bed...the dehydration screws up your Kreb's cycle and is what makes you feel awful)

Tiassa it comes out of your lungs, not your pores

Anyway a hangover is a combination of low blood sugar and dehydration, lack of B12 and the effects of a depressant

Best cure is water and a banana as well as something to make you feel good to counter the depressant

If I wake up with a hangover, all the alcohol has already been absorbed. How would greasy food stop what is no longer in my stomach?

so there is no biological reason to crave a fatty hamburger the next morning? Its just a personal favourite? hmmm, I thought there was a reason.

Why not? It's pretty much the same, I'd think, as the weird craving that happen sometimes during pregnancy.

That's because the alcohol is still there in your intestines, with fat however it will not be absorbed as fast.

Hmmm, so maybe its not just me after all.

    http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2012-12/fyi-why-do-we-crave-greasy-food-when-we’re-hung-over

...The desire to eat high-fat foods after drinking too much is rooted in human’s earliest, humblest beginnings, some scientists say.
“All mammals gravitate to eating the most energy-dense foods," David Levitsky, professor of human ecology and nutritional sciences at Cornell University, says. "Fat is the most energy-dense food available." It’s just that sober, you won’t usually give in to those cravings. But after a night of boozy indulgence, you lose such learned inhibitions as disciplined eating, Levitsky says.
Another explanation involves brain chemistry, specifically a brain chemical called galanin.
William Gruchow, a professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, has studied and written about galanin and its effects on various neurotransmitters. "Galanin increases appetite for fats, and consumption of fat causes more galanin to be produced," Gruchow said. "Alcohol intake also results in increased galanin production."...

This should help. If you can manage to eat it.

I didn't say you had to enjoy it.
Stopping yourself from vomiting is an important part of the fried breakfast cure.

A better way to eat your grease it is to hide it with bread in a sandwich.
A bacon and egg sandwich with a mug of tea, can surprisingly be eaten where other provisions fail.
In the UK they are sold at establishments like this:

    The Burger Van

Unfortunately the proprietor is often ugly, dirty and obese.
    Occasionally with filthy fingernails.
    That doesn't help either.

And you wanted it to be a blonde tall girl making burgers? wake up women in our age with attributes that border beauty or sexuality don't do this kind of crap, they do their pedicure and manicure with their rich husbands' money. The real men are those who work their lives serving others, the "filthy, ugly, dirty, and obese" as you have said are the ones making this world a happier place, because to majority of people who earn their money with their heart and soul this is a way to get their daily food, not in an expensive StarBucks double-latte-triple cream lightly whipped pre-breakfast extravaganza.

Hate to bump an old-ish thread, but when I've got a really bad hangover, I usually just smoke a little weed. Hash seems to work better. Hard if you have work the next day, but if you work in a job where being stoned won't be a problem, a little pot can help you get over the shitty feeling, and kick the buzz from any left over alcohol in your system back in.

Some (if not most) of us make our own money and never consider honest work to be crap. And rich men tend to be powerful men who never whine about how unfair it is to be a man
