There is a wonderful synergy in the field of social robotics involving Asperger's syndrome. Aspergeans and other autistics are used to help test the design and effectiveness of social social robots. I used to be involved in the design of software personalities for specialized social robots when I worked with roboticist Dr. David Hanson. These robots are used in universities for basic social robotics research, and also for research into therapeutic social robots for autistics. The reason For all the Aspergians and Autistics in the field is that social robots must overcome the problem of the "uncanny valley" in order for the interaction to seem reel. Aspergeans, especially, are useful because they basically suffer a mirror neuron deficit which leads to the difficulty socializing. But in order to function socially at all, Aspergeans or Aspies as some prefer to be called, process their social cues in the neocortex, i.e. not automatically, as do Neurotypicals, as Aspergeans like to refer to everyone else. Aspergeans must do consciously, what Neurotypicals do unconciously. Thus, Aspergeans, though handicapped in many ways, tend to notice aspects of human behavior that are often invisible to Neurotypicals. Aspergeans provide what philosophers refer to as the Philosophic ladder.

Disabled World - Disability News for all the Family: http://www.disabled-world.com/artman/publish/article_2086.shtml#ixzz2Ewn3yysC

"Asperger's syndrome has probably been an important and valuable characteristic of our species throughout evolution," (Attwood, 2006, p. 2).

And that is the simplest explanation for my bad reputation, BTW. Neurotypicals often react quite negatively to my display of poor social skills. Think about it.

And I would add another famous character, supposedly from history. Jesus.*

I don't agree all names above had autism. You said speculative. Did you personally speculate or did you read that somewhere? And what the hay, I think leonardo de vinci had it too.

I notice patterns. That is what makes me a good drummer. I'm going to start a music theory thread on how simple modulation creates apparent complexity in rhythm. In information theory terms, modulation is also how DNA can encode so much information using only 4 nucleotides. And also how nature creates complex patterns, like sea shells and peacock feathers. Dawkins modeled some of this but I can't remember which book I read it in. I think it was "Climbing Mount Improbable" but I am not sure. Aspergeans are relational thinkers. And other Aspergeans would judge my writing as cogent. Neurotypicals, not so much.

We "Aspies" (I don't like this word) often say that we were born on the wrong planet. Check out: http://www.wrongplanet.net/ to get an idea of what life is like for Aspergeans and what Aspergeans think of everyone else in the world.

It is hard to fake Asperger's syndrome. I think when Neurotypicals try mimetically to emulate us, a mimetic rivalry is, sadly, often the result.

    Futilitist,

    1. Why do you think religion evolved?

    2. Why do you think religion is purely about ''sin'' and ''morality''?

Thank you, sir. Do you like the word "Aspie"? I've never liked the way it sounded. I do like the term "Neurotypical" to refer to the non Aspergeans, though.

Mods. A quick question. How long will it take to moderate my last post? I am trying to answer a question with a valid post. I have been up all night playing a gig. I need to get some sleep. Please. It has been more than 30 minutes. There has been a good flow to the conversation. I have made no attempt to insult anyone. I need to cite my sources. Is there something wrong with the post?

I wonder about Truman Capote having been autistic. (I seem to be too.)

There is no such thing as Asperger Syndrome anymore, so no aspies. It's been simplified into just autism, with Asperger's being on the higher functioning end of the spectrum.

A good example of Asperger's was played by Christian Clemenson in Boston Legal season 2 through season 5.

    http://bostonlegal.wetpaint.com/page/Jerry Espenson

For anyone who hasn't watched Boston Legal, I very highly recommend it from beginning to end (5 seasons & 28 DVD's Avg. 4 episodes per DVD)

Just not enough questioning is the problem, especially on the social implications of God and therefore looking honestly how that has worked out for Humanity

It hasn't been a good experience for Humanity, the wars in history and now in modern times
