Is This the Future of Building Construction?

A Chinese company has figured out how to create buildings in a factory and assemble them on site with a crane, using the prefab floor sections as carrying platforms.

Why would any future construction use reinforced concrete when this method is so much faster and cheaper???

Not bad - as a stop-gap until we learn how to make building out of organic materials that compost once we're finished with them.

Now, that one is cool! I hope it's hydroponic gardens, not another high-end casino or money-laundry.

 

I'm all for building underground to use the insulation properties.

Air conditioning is the biggest energy hog, yet everyone is focused on building inefficient power generation. (insert democratic and republican debate here regarding cost savings vs tax increases!!!)

Also, quarry the rock underneath to sell on the open market or soil if no bedrock present.

When will they learn?.?

 

Harder to ship materials, less flexible, more bottlenecks (for a few reasons.) Cool idea though.

 

I actually had a dream two or three years ago where they had a huge skyscraper underground. They had some kind of atmosphere simulation (sky) which was powered using static electricity that they got from rubbing the walls of the big cave.

The dream had a lot of other stuff in it as well, it tried to explain some physics of the future (perhaps how time travel worked), I have a picture in my album which shows somewhat what they presented me (the grid of dots where one was moved which caused some kind of chain-reaction). There was some kind of "ticket" that was used in order to go to the future, right when the dream ended the ticket was stolen by someone that quickly vanished into some tunnel.

I was also taken to my future home, several times during the dream, and each time the place was more and more chaotic, there was some unseen enemy that was making it less orderly all the time, probably the same person that stole the ticket.

 

This is the first reinforced concrete building ever constructed...Paris circa 1853.

The technique of embedding steel rebar to strengthen concrete certainty has its place, but using a steel frame clad with masonry is much faster. The frame of the Chrysler Building in Manhattan for example was erected in just 13 months (four floors per week) circa 1929. You will notice in the image below that the vertical columns do not have diagonal braces top and bottom.

This was back when America still had a culture...that valued aesthetic integrity.
