Level 3 charging of EV's

    San Ysidro just installed a Level 3 charger (DC) for electric vehicles. I drove up from San Diego (41 miles, 3200 feet elevation gain) and was able to charge back to 80% within about 20 minutes - less time than it took to get a piece of pie.

    As these chargers start to become more common I can see EV's becoming a lot more practical for people whose commute is outside the round trip range of the car, and for people who have to go longer distances on occasion.

    @ Billvon,
    Impressive, but curious how that compares to charger you use at home. Nice to know they can go that distance with no worries.

    Interesting! I wonder what the faster charging rate does to the life of the battery - any info?

    It's pretty directly related to temperature, and with today's 65F temperatures and less than 2C charge rate, I doubt it has much of an effect. A 2C+ charger (i.e. a 50kW charger) used in Phoenix when it's 120F out might be a serious problem though.
