Let me see if I got this right, a psychopath is nothing more than an evil sociopath who has killed another human being.

Okay, enough is enough... Gustav, goodbye. Instructing another member (or possibly even members, as broad a spread as your links contained) to go and commit suicide is not acceptable in ANY situation or context for ANY reason. Given your history here, and how quickly you got on your "bad boy" high horse after the last infraction point expired... I'm going to go ahead and say to hell with the points system; given the seriousness of this infraction, you are gone. Period.

So goes another bright mind extinguished by the grip of extensive rules. Gustav you are the true pariah now and it’s a damn shame and a waste. Gustav I didn’t know you too well, however from reading your posts and debates I’ve always held you with high regards, your brash and brutal honesty are traits that I wish more forums users or even people in real life held true. People like you have personally laughed in the face of authority and criticized their petty rules. As Gustav would say “If you have a problem with me go cry yourself a river and drown yourself in it” If I get banned for this I will not regret a thing for this one opportunity to personally tell a moderator to go fuck themselves. There is a reason why Gustav behaves this way, this is his escape from reality, only on the web can he truly express his thoughts, opinions and feelings without fear of personally insulting someone. With this bane you are taking that away from him.

Saturnine Pariah, if Gustav has truly as weak a grip on reality as you claim... if a forum such as this is his only "bright spot" in his life... then he needs serious psychiatric counseling, not a computer with internet access... and I can say this - as someone who survived multiple attempts at suicide, comments like that are incredibly harmful to someone who is in a state where they are considering suicide already... comments like that can easily be the thing that pushes someone over the edge. Not only that, but there is no excuse for such simple hate speech - additionally, if I'm not mistaken, in many states it is actually a crime to tell someone who is surgically depressed to commit suicide, under the cyber-bullying act.

*shrugs* That, and hate to say it... he wasn't all that "brutally honest" either. He liked to skew things in a favorable light and tread the far side of the line between what is right and wrong. Telling me to "go fuck myself" isn't going to do much to change my mind on this issue, especially considering I've already gotten more than one message from various members (not moderators mind you, just members) thanking me for banning him... something that bothers me more than anything else if I'm truthful. The fact that people are happy to see him go... well, that alone speaks volumes.

Not exactly my voice but I find that this medium properly shows how feel on the whole issue. I myself have dealt with thoughts of suicide, and overcome them. But do I freak the fuck out every time some random, person on the internet tells me to kill myself….obliviously not since I sat here and typed this response. Question how the hell am I supposed to now if you’re clinically depressed or suffering from mental instability, and secondary question if a mere utterance of statement like this can cause this much of a shit storm then why even bother logging onto the internet knowing full well that the interactions online may not be suited for your tastes or likes? The internet is the international waters of cyber-space i.e. mostly un-governed, i.e. anything can happen and anyone can say anything.

The point of that was more to indicate how seriously such statements are taken... obviously such things don't affect you, and I applaud you for your thick hide. However, there are people out there who are susceptible to such things, and I would much rather protect them than worry about the feelings of someone who will readily go tell people to end the their own lives. In any event, if you object to the ban that is fine and is, of course, your prerogative; take it up with the super mods or administrators of the forum. I stand by my decision and, as far as this thread is concerned, the discussion concerning it is over.

So freedom of speech is trumped by the right to be weak minded. Yay America. I'm with Saturnine Pariarah, and yes I have spent my share of time suicidal and have even been committed because someone thought I was suicidal. I have no sympathy for suicidal people. Sympathy only validates their desire to give up.

    BTW: WTF is "surgically depressed"?

Generalization. My drug dealers are great. Ever met a evil psychologist, or scientist? Lets round up a friggin posy and get them all and put them in the new founded Hell Land, they'll facking love it. Thing is how to ID them. Praying for telepathy.

Question: Does anyone feel that a population of only evil, or Hell people would be enjoyable for those people, given that they now get to do their "business?"

As an outsider I can't speak for tobacco users, but the overwhelming majority of people who drink alcohol are responsible and caring, and scrupulously avoid situations in which they might cause harm. They find the effects of the drug, taken in low doses, to be refreshing, a respite from the worries of the day. Are you suggesting that we take that elixir away from all those good, harmless people, because a tiny fraction of people get drunk and cause harm?

Especially since, like marijuana and many other tremendously popular drugs, alcohol is relatively easy to produce clandestinely. Banning it has almost no effect except to lower the quality of a commodity produced by amateurs. Concentration varies so people get drunker than they intend to, and poisonous fractions (primarily methanol) get into the mix. This increases the health hazard and death rate, both for the users themselves and other drivers and pedestrians.

If there's one thing we all should have learned by now, it's that you can't legislate morality. When the shit-for-brains government moves a tremendously popular commodity to the black market, it makes life worse for everyone.

These methods of suicide are the asshole's last middle finger to society. How do you suppose the driver who has the bad luck to run over your body is going to feel for the next five years? Even in death, a sociopath can find a way to hurt other people.

The same problem applies. Dozens of people are going to watch your bones shatter and your blood splatter on the sidewalk. It's one thing to see that in a movie where you know it's not real, but it's quite different to watch a real, living person turned into a blob of protein. As for the elevator shaft, the maintenance man will be called to figure out what's wrong, and you're certainly not going to make his day when he finds out what's down at the bottom of the shaft.

Many people here in the Washington DC region choose the Metro system (a subway in the city, aboveground in the suburbs) to off themselves. They just jump in front of a train. The drivers of these trains have been interviewed. It scars them forever, and some simply can't bear to go back to work. So by offing yourself this way you've just shoved a whole family into poverty.

Not all of it is ungoverned. The majority of SciForums members are immature--chronologically or emotionally or both. It would be irresponsible to host a forum like this without moderation. So when you're here, there are rules, and they are enforced. Deal with it or join Gustav.

Probably not. They rely on the fact that most people are relatively kind, honest and caring.

prohibition didn't work out to well. But at least we got racing from it.
And MoonShine is still being made. Sometimes MoonShine is not made well. I have heard stories like the feds have found rats in the liquid. But there is homemade wine too. Tried some homemade strawberry wine once. Didn't taste real bad but it was not for me.
I heard many times before. I am a "drunk" not a "alcoholic". Alcoholics go AA.
Drinking in excess is where many imo go wrong. And create more issues. I just wish I understood why a drunk person many times walks away from a accident. I even knew a person who died. And the drunk who wrecked into there vehicle walked away. And speaking of suicide F.R. Makes a good point about the effects a person has hitting someone. A friend I knew was driving a CDL vehicle and a person walked out in front of them. It was ruled a vehicular manslaughter to start with. Then he was cleared later. When the ruling was deemed a suicide. He has major issues for many years.

    Getting back on the topic.
A serial killer is evil. Look at Ted Bundy as an example.

Racing was in full effect starting in the 1800's and prohibition wasn't until 1920's

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway complex was built in 1909 as a gravel-and-tar track and hosted a smattering of small events, including ones for motorcycles.[2] The first long distance event, in "fearful conditions",[3] was the 100-lap Prest-O-Lite Trophy in 1909, won by Bob Burman in a Buick.[4] Breakup of the asphalt led to two fatal accidents in the first two long-distance events (a 250 mi (400 km) and 300 mi (480 km), which was shortened to 235 mi (378 km) after two severe wrecks).[5] That these spectacles had attracted 15,000 paying customers (and crowds of up to 40,000)[6] persuaded principal owner Carl G. Fisher to spend US$155,000[7] on repaving the track with 3.2 million bricks;[8] he also added a 2 ft 9 in (0.84 m) concrete wall around the track's circumference.[9] During the 1910 Memorial Day weekend, the first events on the newly paved circuit drew 60,000 spectators; Ray Harroun won the 200 mi (320 km) Wheeler-Schebler Trophy in a Marmon.

After several years, prohibition became a failure in North America and elsewhere, as bootlegging (rum-running) became widespread and organized crime took control of the distribution of alcohol. Distilleries and breweries in Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean flourished as their products were either consumed by visiting Americans or illegally exported to the United States. Chicago became notorious as a haven for prohibition dodgers during the time known as the Roaring Twenties. Prohibition generally came to an end in the late 1920s or early 1930s in most of North America and Europe, although a few locations continued prohibition for many more years.

1920 to 1933 in the United States

    Soldiers are serial killers.

He's referring to NASCAR, that strange and uniquely American form of auto racing.

During Prohibition, the moonshiners had to get their product to market, but various levels of government agents were hell-bent on stopping them--county, state and federal. So guys began "souping up" their cars so they could outrun the cops. (Probably a combination of "soup," a drug given to race horses, and "supercharger," a technology for forcing a greater amount of fuel/air mixture into an engine by increasing the air pressure, a forerunner to today's "turbochargers.") Naturally they bragged about the performance of their cars so it wasn't long before races were held on makeshift dirt tracks.

When the federal government repealed Prohibition (because in the Depression years of the 1930s the government needed the tax money from legal liquor sales, which increased their revenue by about 30%) many states in the Bible Belt continued to enforce it by state or municipal law. So moonshining continued up into the 1950s, and with the postwar technology boom, boosted by WWII's military inventions, the hot cars kept getting hotter.

Eventually Big Business saw a lucrative market being run by amateurs on primitive tracks, so they took it over and built paved tracks, and the auto manufacturers began sponsoring drivers who used their cars. This was the beginning of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, or NASCAR.

Today the term "stock car" is a joke, since the vehicles are so heavily modified that the body shape and the engine block are almost all that remain recognizable.

NASCAR racing is one of the most popular sports in the world, running 17 of the 20 most well-attended single-day sporting events. In the USA it rivals American football in popularity.

Many safety innovations have been applied to the sport, but not usually until several drivers have died in spectacular crashes. The drivers wear flame-retardant suits and devices that prevent their necks from snapping. The entire car has been redesigned to place the driver closer to the middle, once again making a joke out of the term "stock car."

    Permanently.
