Glad to see America is still not a racist country, at least what is left of it.

    Wait...

So if Obama wasn't re-elected, America would therefore be racist?

The USA is still "racists", sure we elected a black president and we are probably the least racist country out there (except maybe Brazil), but we are still crawling with racists, did anyone even see the Romney supporters, how many Blacks and Hispanics were there?

Guess we are too slow to realize another thread on election is running.

    @ ElectricFetus,

I am white and if I go to a local mall I have trouble spotting other white people on a crowded day. Canada is a melting pot and we all get along fine. My kids are half asian.

I guess John Galt doesn't like following open threads.

That would depend on why people voted for Obama. Are they racist against white people...or are they just socialists?

I voted for a white guy: Gary Johnson. Not because he's white, but because he's pro-freedom. Does that mean I'm racist against half-black socialists?

Or anywhere outside of America, it would appear.

... where the hell has my delete button gone? I meant to post with quote.

Racism is rampant in Latin America. But in most places the victims are Native Americans, not Afro-Americans.

The only demographic in which he prevailed was Euro-American ("white") men. Women voted against him in, as did the ethnic minorities. It could be argued that the one segment of the population who would have suffered most under his policies are women: who are more than 50% of us!

I try to avoid it. Guns, churches and Rednecks: the three things I hate most about this country.

My band plays gigs in Virginia. If you pull up the corner of the gigantic American flag that's tacked to the wall behind the bandstand in every bar in the South, you'll find the Confederate flag that was there on 9/10. They didn't even bother taking it down, they're just waiting for the day when they can get away with displaying it again.

It's hard to believe that the South is now the stronghold of the party of Lincoln, the one that freed the slaves. Today 95% of Republicans are "white"!

I know very few people who voted for either candidate. They were all voting against the other guy. Romney was on the wrong side of history. Everybody hates bankers during a bad economy, and he is the banker's banker. That said, a lot of the people of my generation, the retired hippies, are still so proud to have hired the first non-white president, that they couldn't bring themselves to fire him for not doing a good job. Affirmative Action writ large!

Especially when his opponent kept saying that he had solutions to all of our problems but couldn't describe them articulately. If you claim to have a plan for fixing an economy that is doing this badly, that's a pretty complex plan and you'd better have a 15-minute PowerPoint presentation to explain it. He didn't even have an oral summary. Personally, I'm quite certain that he didn't have a fucking clue. If he'd had a couple more weeks to respond to Sandy, he would have been promising us, "I'll fix the weather. I'll explain it all to you after I'm elected. Just trust me."

I'll be curious to see how the third parties fared in this election. Many of us couldn't see any substantive difference between the two Republocrats, and the percentage of the electorate who formally identify themselves as "independents" or members of third parties is now up in double digits. That "bloc" might have swung the election. The Green Party probably pulled in an enormous number of votes, considering that:
    • A. We'd just been pounded by a weather event that might very well turn out to be a manifestation of climate change and
    • B. Neither of the Republocrat candidates even mentioned climate change in the so-called "debates," the most important issue that's facing the entire world.
I've been a Libertarian since 1984, but I'm leaning Green these days. I think the world has problems now that we can't solve by simply judiciously applying the principles of Thomas Jefferson.

I know a couple of people who said they were going to vote for Roseanne Barr (the Peace & Freedom Party candidate; I was a member of that party from 1968 to 1979). Their explanation was "Why not? She couldn't possibly be any worse than Obama or Romney, and at least she'd be entertaining. A troubled woman for troubled times!"

I'd be interested in hearing you actually explain both of those points. Especially the second one.
