I'm not a big fan of zombie flicks, but this show has got me watching every episode. Even my wife will sit down and watch it. I think it has a good mix of drama and action, so it's not all head bashing and mutilation. I picked up the first two seasons on NetFlix and have managed to watch the first two episodes of season three online. Anybody else watching this show?

A fellow walker is among your ranks in my present form Bowser. I simply love the series, the characters, settings and the underlying theme of chaos and humanity.

And the characters evolve with the show. The most dramatic change is the character "Rick"--the guy gets darker with each new episode. Yeah, I'm totally sucked into this show. It's very rare that I find something this interesting.

My brother dragged me to the series kicking and screaming, but now I can't get enough. It's probably my second-favorite drama on TV now.

My only complaint is that it's on basic cable, where we're not allowed to be treated like adults and hear swear words or see boobies. I mean, look, I get that it's not real, but it's difficult to suspend disbelief when not one single person says "What the fuck?!" during the zombie apocalypse.

Yeah, I hadn't noticed that. I suppose there would be a whole lot of cursing in real life under those conditions.

Present form? You have other forms? Perhaps, Saturnine Pariah by day, fire breathing wyrm by night...
I think I'm going to avoid checking this show out given the raves you lot are giving.

I don't wanna get sucked up in that too...

Why do they call it a fire breathing dragon, anyway? It doesn't breathe fire. It breathes air. It just spits fire.
It should be called a fire spitting dragon. Or a fire spewing... spurter. Fire spurter. Hmmm, maybe not a good idea.
"Beware, little human, or I shall ejaculate flames upon you."
    "Whoa... down boy..."

It's a good show. I'm not into zombie flicks, but this show has more going for it than just guts and gore. You really have to watch the first two seasons to appreciate how the characters and story evolve.

I guess it's the Wheedon effect. Ever since I got caught up in Firefly only to have it yanked out from under me...

I like the show. Sometimes the lack of intelligence displayed by the characters is irritating, though.

"Hey, let's stay on this farm for weeks without making any fortifications!"

    "Great idea, Rick and Hershel!"

I'm not sure what they could have done to fortify the farm... They apparently didn't see an attack of the horde of zombies coming. Nonetheless, they have found a fortress in the state penitentiary.

I've been watching it, and yeah, I agree with what Cowboy said. They were on a farm, which usually implies some farming machinery, so I'd have dug a defensive ditch and bank around the house, walkers don't climb so well, so if they fell in the ditch you dug they'd find it hard to climb up the bank of earth you excavated. Oh.,and I'd have stolen a large truck, and got all 'A Team' on it, armour, flamethrowers, a firepoint front and aft so passengers could use rifles from safety.

The people act out of character a little, Herschel's death was just bogus. There are rules, run around alone in the dark, and bad things happen, and they know this, why take unnecessary risks? I'd have killed Grimes when he suggested executing the captured guy too, no committee, no discussion, just execution for a guy who thinks torture and murder are OK because he's become paranoid. But on the whole, I quite enjoy it.

Usually I'm a purist, but I'm glad they deviated from the comic. It isn't so close to my heart as some things and slowly and grudingly I'm accepting that artists do need to pursue some creative independence.

So... yeah! Let's murder the guy who thinks murder is ok... that bastard.

Okay... I suppose they could have done more to prepare, but they did lose a lot of time looking for that little girl who was lost in the woods.

Yes, even though Dale Horvath had a shotgun, he should have known better than walking out there in the dark. As far as I'm concerned, he deserved to die.

Shane Walsh was a loose cannon. I assume that's the guy you are referring.

Well, they killed off Lori and T-Dog this last episode. Can't say I'll miss them.

So... does the series end when no one is left?

I assumed that this is what happened with "Angel," one of my three all-time favorite fantasy shows starring live actors. ("Highlander" and "Witchblade" are the other two. "Fraggle Rock" beats all but it only had one live actor, Doc.)

They seem to introduce new characters when others die off. There are a few main characters that they simply can't kill; otherwise, the story loses momentum, IMO. Apparently, there's a whole series of comic books from which the show is based. I don't like reading comics, so I'm hoping they have a paperback on the story.

Yes, but they've already changed quite a bit from the graphic novels. For instance, Dale lives a lot longer and Shane dies a lot sooner. Neither Daryl or his brother Merle appear in print form, neither does the fact that everyone is infected and turns when they die.
