As an aside, that link to Dailycaller Tiassa provided, the comments are very disturbing. Chipz was right in a sense, there's a lot of hostility towards Obama out there, but the evil isn't on his side. It bothers me because these people are probably the ones you might meet every day, and yet with internet anonymity, they really let their true self show. I know it's nothing new, but reading through them was sickening and I had to comment.

Precisely my point. Holding a political position has essentially devolved into a raw demonization of any with a dissenting opinion. It's a sickness incited by for-profit news services which is damning to an informed electorate. If you were to read just the Tiassa contributions to this "Romney File" (which is a bit more of a folder) in one sitting and took them at face value, you might think Romney is a mentally incapable of speech. However, a sensible person is well aware Romney winning the presidency would not be a tragedy in the proportions they state. His positions might be in opposition to those you hold, but it's not as if we elected a true lunatic. MSNBC begs to differ.

Obama seems to be doing quite well. Maybe crawl out from under that rock?

Something About Bliss, But I Don't Know What

Well, I just figure it's like with the question of racism. A conservative associate has assured me that it's not really there, and if it is, blame Obama. After all, one of the president's signature "evils" is to have adopted the radically socialist health care plan devised by the right-wing Heritage Foundation, championed in 1993 by congressional Republicans, and enacted in Massachusetts by a Republican governor.

Thus, with the racism question, it is Obama's radical policies that move conservatives who aren't racist to use racist terms and images. And everything else is the Democrats' fault; after all, Rep. Doug Lamborn was born in 1954, and just because Br'er Rabbit was still around in the '70s and '80s, when I was growing up, doesn't mean a congressman should know why "tar baby" probably isn't a good phrase to use in reference to a black president. After all, Song of the South came out in 1946, before Lamborn was born. How dare anyone expect him ... er .. right. I digress.

With Scarborough, of course, the same thing holds. It's his own fault for wanting to have some journalistic credibility. Never mind that he's been working hard at this for years; he owes it to the Party to play the role of faithful apparatchik.

In either case, then, the venom spat at Scarborough or the gasping hatred of black people shown by some of the commenters, it's easy enough to put your mind at ease: This isn't really happening, and if it is, it's Obama's fault. And Scarborough's.

You know, the first rule of right-wing "personal accountability": Blame someone else.

It is easier to cope with difficult reality if you simply refuse to acknowledge it. A wonderful trick if you can pull it off.

Why is Romney not using George Junior to campaign for him? Romney’s is advocating going back to George Junior’s economic and foreign policies. So it would appear logical to enlist George Junior for the task. President Obama has enlisted former president Bill Clinton to campaign on Obama’s behalf. Where is George? George was notably absent from the Republican convention as well.

It reminds me of the alien recipe book for cooking humans, "To Serve Man", from the Twilight Zone. It seems apropos.

According to Richard Murdock (Romney endorsed candidate); God intends for women to become pregnant after rape, should they become pregnant. So if a woman becomes pregnant after a rape, it is God’s intent – interesting and consistent with the Romney we have seen these last 6+ years.

"I believe that life begins at conception. The only exception I have to have an abortion is in that case of the life of the mother. I struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize that life is a gift from god and I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that god intended to happen,” said Mourdock.” - Romney endorsed candidate Richard Murdock

Here's the front page of the Des Moines Register. I think I nicely sums up the state of the presidential race:

The facial expressions, the headlines, there's even a Romney ad at the bottom of the page.

This is how people judge, facial expressions, snapy jingles, opinion pieces... you do relies we are living in Fahrenheit 451? People can't even understand policy any more let alone argue about it, instead we have political beauty competitions!

True. If you listen to their actual message, it's the opposite of these headlines. Obama is saying things are getting better, and Romney is running on Obama ruining everything.

Could be - I saw form a "national consensus" that W was an exemplar of military virtue and integrity, a true Christian and patriot with exactly the business experience and firm principles America needed to restore her prosperity. They even re-elected him, based on that consensus.

That consensus has been forming every election cycle since the late 60s, in America. They used to wear hoodies, not the funny hats, more white than red and blue, but the two alternating flags and the Christian crosses are still the same.

And it calls itself a newspaper. And you and your kind are fine with that.

    Well, you know ....

As much as I chuckled at that one when it hit the cycle, I think you're overstating it just a little.

    That is to say:

    • There is already something psychologically deviant, compared to the general populace, about someone willing to put themselves through the rigors of campaigning for and then serving in the presidency.

    • Anyone not concerned for their long-term mental health when applying for the Oval Office probably shouldn't be president.

    • We already know Mitt Romney is disturbed.

    Thus—

—I'm not so worried about the "nuclear button".

But Romney is a pretzel knot of political adaptability, and that lubricated with a healthy dose of snake oil. He is surrounded, in foreign policy and defense terms, with neocon hawks.

But if Romney wins the presidency, the chances of the United States getting caught up in a new war go from, "possible" to, "I'll be surprised if we don't".

On his best days as president, he'll be a puppet. He is, ultimately, a salesman. And we already know the neocons want a new world war. The Policy for a New American Century might have failed publicly, but the ideology hasn't disappeared from the Earth.

What they need is a pitch man. I am hard-pressed to think of anyone better suited for that role than Mitt Romney.

It's not a nuclear war itself that I'm worried about. A more conventional war, with all its expense of life and money, is worrisome enough.

    Back to Bush?

Thurston Howell IV, or George Bush III?

It's a purely political aspect, so we'll go with the political summary:

In last week's debate, a voter told Mitt Romney she's afraid of going back to Bush-era policies and asked for some reassurances. The Republican insisted, "President Bush had a very different path for a very different time," before noting several issues where his agenda is indistinguishable from George W. Bush.

The next day, the Romney campaign started featuring Condoleezza Rice on the trail. Today, it's Dick Cheney's turn.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney is headlining a fundraiser for Mitt Romney today at Dallas Love Field.

The GOP presidential candidate's son will also appear at tonight's private event, to be held at the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field.

Also scheduled to appear are national GOP Chairman Reince Priebus, Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer and political pundit Glenn Beck.

Romney's son Josh will be on hand for the event, and Paul Ryan will appear via video.

    (Benen)

Back to Bush sounds like it should be a specialty porn title. But, no, apparently it's the Romney campaign.

And something about Glenn Beck goes here, but between the obvious and the profane, I'm not sure what.

Wonder why the Register was so amiable to Obama off the record, but switched over? Not wanting to threaten sales to their demographic? I thought it was a good read myself, I wish Obama would get more specific like that more often. But anytime he gets into specifics, people get bored. They like soundbites much better, even when they're misleading in the short form.

    Hmmm..

    And there we have it..

I wonder how long it will take for the Romney camp to come out with photos of Romney with black people and proclaiming he has 'many black friends'?

"I like black people, they're just the right height. Some of my best friends own NBA teams."

John Sununu is a horrible, old, white, racist, mysogenist, POS. Of course that describes quite a few Republicans these days(especially in Rmoney's circles). And yet they wonder why African Americans support Obama 94%-0% for Rmoney. Or why they aren't loved by so many women. And Hispanics, where's the love?
