Yes. As I don´t need any IE in this machine (can use another once a month to read my latest PSA blood tests, etc. at clinic which only responds to IE browser.) I can just stop trying to get IE7 as working replacement, delete the 52 files I "stored" in the trash can and accept the small loss of drive space caused by the 19 IE8 files that warned me not to delete ; however I´m game to try a little more but don´t want to crash and try to restore backup etc.

BTW QQ, there is more in end of my last post 40 now you did not see, I think.

I had to use that program once, to help get rid of a nuisance program I picked up with a free program called MonaRonaDona. It was a real pain in the ass and very tough to get rid of.

Possibly you could try renaming this file from:
    iexplore.exe" -extoff
    to
    iexplore.exe

I have a feeling that the system has added this to the file extension for reasons I do not know.
it suggests "extensions off" which would mean that all addons would be disabled. If you rename the file and it doesn't help/work please restore the the original file name back to
    iexplore.exe" -extoff

also note the response from the support team at microsoft link I gave you.
He did not answer the question and immediately enquired about anti virus protection suites. Thus avoiding the question IMO

sorry but to me this stinks of a file manipulation....

That sounds like a safe thing to try. Perhaps a fresh, clean copy of IE8 can then be deleted and I then I can then instal IE7 without install stopping and telling reason being that I already a more recent version installed. It is well past my bed time in Brazil now, so will sleep on it first.

Perhaps the cause of my problem is too simple to be noticed (except by my more free-thought sleeping mind last night.)

Recall I happened to be at Yahoo site and saw the offer of an IE8 download, took offer and installed it. I never was asked what language I wanted, so surely got an English version, which from what Stryder told me (in post 25 & I repeated at end of post 40) probable goes looking in folder with name C:\Windows\....

But the download may seen (as IE7 does) that I already had and IE(#?) so have gone, sort of as an update, where my earlier IE was. I.e. been placed in:
    C:\Arquivos de programas\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" –extoff

Thus new English IE8 can´t find the code, no matter how it is launched, but the search´s little brown dog can – He finds 71 files when looking just for “IE8”

I don´t dare test this by rename of “Arquivos de programas” to “Windows” as then many other programs in this “Portuguese machine” expecting to be in Arquivos de programas will not work.

Could this explain all that has been observed?

I think my next (and final) try to get IE7 installed will be to first to try to (re)-install IE8 (a clean full copy) and then delete it and then try to install the Portuguese version of IE7 which currently won´t install as like the little brown dog, it finds a file of IE8 , stops the install and writes msg about me already having a more recent version.

If that does not work /solve problem/ I will just do my (really QQ´s but not so stated) plan in post 48. So I now again thank all who have tried to help.

I will, but it will be a few weeks before I want to use any IE. Then if not in a hurry, I will try download IE8 then deleted IE8 and try to download IE7 plan. If in a hurry, I may jut turn on the other lap top that has a working IE in it. I will try to remember to send you a PM when first is tried.

I have given up trying to install IE7 in this machine.

It took many tries to clean out all of the IE files as simple deletes of the system files makes backup copies.

If you let the little brown dog search on IE, he finds many files. If you select all in his discovered list, the computer refuses to delele them all together; however, if you select only one it will delete it. So, one by one I did that. Finally I got no IE files in the little brown dog´s search.

My attempts to install IE7 still stopped and told me (god only knows how) that a more recent version of IE was installed and it would not continue to install. Then I tried to install IE8, with plan to immediately then delete it, but shortly after I accepted the license agreement, it began to install a few files and then screen went black with white msg displayed for tiny fraction of a second. "Bad_Pool_caller" I was able to read after a few such displays, then and automatic restart began.

You can't uninstall IE form Windows. I haven't read this thread and I'm not going to. Most 'try this' try that' tech threads on the internet annoy me to no end because so few know what they are talking about in them. But who told you told to try uninstalling IE? That it was possible? Never listen to anything that person says about a computer again.

When you have a serious IE problem? You have an operating system problem. Your operating system is corrupt on that computer. It isn't an 'IE' problem.

You need to back up all your data, reformat the hard drive, and reinstall a fresh copy of windows.

I hate to ask, but did you also clean up the Registry? You should have a file called Regedit on your system that will allow you to search the Registry and delete all the IE files in the Registry. It's been my experience that deleting files off your system doesn't necessarily remove them from the Registry.

You will probably get many scary warnings about deleting or modifying Registry entries. I've deleted 1000's of entries out of XP's Registry without any problems, but making a current Registry backup should be something you do.

Yes and no. I have an illegal copy of AVG PC cleanup 2011 - Friend who gave it to me said never run it when connected to internet as it will kill itself. I used many of its tools: cleaned and defragged the registry; eliminated many file duplicates (that tells you to leave one copy unchecked, but I checked everyone with IE name, looked again and yes they were gone.) I think I now know why there is that strange "-extoff" after where my IE8 program was. One of the subroutines of AVG PC cleanup tells how you can speed up your browser, etc. and I did most of those suggestions more than 6 months ago (IE (7?) I had still opened and ran fine until a bout two months ago when I accepted Yahoo´s offer to down load IE8 (probably an English version - I´m 99% sure it did install OK, but probably I did not open or use it - I only use IE at one site which requires it. (When you go there with anything else it tells that they do not support netscape!) I did not defragge the main disk as I think that gets done automatically, it is slow to do, and more than half of Drive C is "free" of files.

I´let the little dog look for Regedit to see if it is there. (I identify the search by "little brown dog" as name in Portuguese is not going to do you any good and can´t remember the English name of the search under Start choices.) Even if there, I suspect my checking all copies of IE in the AVG clean up of duplicates killed any it could find. Thanks for the ideas anyway.

surely "way past" but if I had seen that before trying many things it might have worked. Perhaps not as if Install IE8 is really just and update of IE7 I probably jammed an English update from Yahoo into my Poruguese IE7. Everything but IE works fine so I don´t want to do the only thing that would probably work at this stage. - reformate the disk.

I never liked IE*, need it for only one site, and surely some day they will up grade so fire fox or Chrome can open it. Until then I will just use a different machine.

    * In fact there is not much about MS I like - they want to do the thinking for you and not let you do what you want to, especially in Word. I am not very savy about computers - MS must be a hell for someone who is.

Have you tried going to Windows Update anywhere in this saga? IE has to be in at least partially working condition to use the Windows Update site.

It's been awhile but I know you can execute Regedit.exe from the command line. Ask Stryder for the syntax. Also I believe the file can be found in the windows system files directory. Believe me when I tell you none of those directory cleanup programs, and I used to have about a dozen them, will clean any (what might look like system files) from your Registry. If you've never used the Regedit.exe program before, it's a wonderful tool to have and use even if you never delete anything. It has it's own search window. If you use it try IE*, or maybe *ie* and you will be surprised at what comes up.

Billy T this dependancy on IE for a single web site is rather interesting. Does this site actually block other browsers and only allows IE?
Can you send me a link in a pm so I can find out why it can't use FF or Crome, or Opera, or safari or a simple code browser? [Do not post the link public as it could further a hackers cause]
I can not think of any reason why a professional house for blood testing etc would exclude so many browsers....
*note: The site in question could actually be the sorce of your problem. Commonly a hacker can infitrate a domain server and load script that downloads on to a computer using the hijacked web domain as a surrogate. The more popular and necessary the site is, the greater the appeal to the hijacker.
