That might be fine for those who have money to burn. But in today's economy it's just not like it used to be. The game I'm suggesting has everything a truly thinking person could want and is TOTALLY free to play.

And there are also limitations - you can't play 24-hours a day and loose touch with reality. So I still say it's best game overall.

I was not arguing your game might not be enjoyable. Warcraft has its own economy so "non thinking" people would not be able to raise the gold to get some of the finer things such as my ability to turn myself into a dragon and give rides. That cost me 35000 gold. I can remember when I got my first gold piece. It seemed like a lot of gold. Now with higher lvl characters it seems so small an amount.

Although it may seem like an expensive game if it stops you from one $40 dinner or drinks on a night out during the month then it has paid for itself.

People can play on headsets like in the raid below (there are over 100 raid scenarios)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9AlBvLiUWg&feature=relmfu

or you can search the land for hundreds of tiny critters and kiss them all for achievements.

There are people who live online, and seems to attract a lot of people who are disabled. I do not play much as a rule, but would not be able to say much against it. It is an online world.

I will look at your game as I am not currently subscribed to warcraft, but it would be like comparing apples to oranges.

I understand. And don't forget - some people LIKE oranges while others prefer apples.

    Found my iron ore.

Anyone want to buy 22,000 iron ore for $770,000?

Stupid iPad making me buy it.

It depends what the sciforums joiners strategy is, perhaps it can be used in a guild for crafting, otherwise you'll have to secure a sale with a guild but they might query the price.

    Hi, Steve,

Can't help with iPad-made errors, sorry.

But I was just wondering since I noticed your new account - did you turn the original one over to your wife? If so, great - we can always use another player!

I tried the game, but I ran out of fuel....

Then I realized my fuel will slowly refill on its own... However I breezed by the store for this game and realized that if you want to have any kind of power you may need to invest hundreds of dollars.
    http://store.core-exiles.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=16

is just a start.. look at how much fuel costs.. I almost bought extra fuel so I could keep playing as it is interesting. I managed to mine a lot of ore and refine it, but I could not figure out how to sell the refined ore. I sold the raw ore with ease under contract in the GPM or whatever that market is called that does contracts in bits and pieces. Seems like a lot of mouse clicking to go from point a to point b. It would be much nicer to just click on the destination in the map.

I wonder if you could actually progress in this game without spending money..

You most certainly can. I'm currently at level-85 and the 7th richest player in the game (last time I looked). I only spent a small amount ONCE - about $25 I think - to buy the second level engine. And that's been all. Never bought fuel. I always vote every day and that gets 200 units for free. Also participated in several of the competitions that run continually and got quiet a bit there as well. Periodically, generally around holidays, there are major fuels giveaways - we all get hundreds of units then.

Edit: I almost forgot to mention this: When you level up a bit you can get what's called a "jump drive." Just two clicks will take you clear across the biggest galaxy there is (the Furnace). In addition to that, once you hit level 35 you guild can give you a special device called an N.E.I. that will take you across galaxy borders - again, with just two clicks.

There's FAR more to the game than you can possibly imagine at this point.

I haven't played in a couple days, because I got the DLC for Skyrim...and have busy with that. I'll probably go back to it when I run out of motivation for that.

Ps. if anyone else is playing Skyrim...my modding skills are pretty good now...if you want something custom...just let me know, and I'll make it for you.

sounds good. Do you have to buy a second lvl engine and then a third and then fourth. Could someone just purchase a lvl 5 engine or do they need to be upgrades? The lvl 2 engine I saw only gives 8 fuel per quarter hour. How can I sell my 8 refined ore? I can only seem to be able to transfer it around the galaxy. I'd sell it to joe, but there is no option to get it back in my hold. All I have on my ship aside from mining lasers is an olympic flag.

Glad to hear travelling gets easier. Whats a good way to earn money career wise? Mining might work if I knew what to do with the refined ore.

any tips? should you be a criminal?

I think we should make a sciforums guild. I got a message from one of the Devs, thanking us for this thread, and our interest in his game.

    Shout out to Coop!

Dude...when the main Dev bothers to PM you....that's a really good sign.

No, you can buy any level engine at any time. Just that one jump up was all I wanted. The best way to sell anything is on the Players Market (we just call it the PM.) Keep a check on it because I see people wanting ore quite frequently. In fact, I bought 50,000 units myself just two days ago. You can also list it on the GBM (Galactic Buyers Market) - just check the current prices there and undercut them a bit if you want a faster sale.

The two best ways of making the most money is hauling passengers or freight. Freight is my choice. Later on you can get into crafting which is what it sounds like you're doing in Skyrim - making things other players want to buy. Crafting is my second occupation And I only make a few items that sell pretty quickly.

Mining isn't too bad but I prefer to use extractors instead. They are an excellent and consistent source of raw materials for your own use or to sell on the market. Oh, and never sell to Joe unless you're in a BIG rush for cash. It might take a little longer but you'll get MUCH more for anything by selling it other players. And there are *always* players wanting to buy *everything* if the price is right.

And here's a *major* tip about resources: Everyone, except for the very newest players perhaps, are aware that that there's major enhancement to be added to the game soon. It will allow players like me (and dozens of others) to upgrade our settlements from level 5 to level 6. At this point, no one knows when it will be or what resources will be required - but we DO know a tremendous amount of resources will be needed. So all the seasoned players are buying up resources and hoarding them in anticipation. Again, if the price is right.

    Hi, Mac,

A new guild isn't really a good option right now. It would take months - maybe even a year or more - before a new guild could offer the assistance that an existing one can.

I need to make a couple of clarifications about my recent reply to kwhilborn.

First off, I may have given the wrong impression about mining and using extractors. That's NOT an either/or thing - many players do both. In fact that one of the things that makes the game so good - you can do several different things at the same time. And it's the same with hauling freight and passengers - I know several players that do both of those things (and other things, too) simultaneously.

So don't ever think you'll get locked into doing just one job/occupation.

The other thing is the N.E.I. The one that your guild can provide you with is not only a means of making long, long jumps quickly, it also provides you with a 10% fuel savings.

So as I said earlier, you new players just need to hang on a bit. Honestly, you've NOT even begun to scratch the surface yet - not at all !! There's much, MUCH more coming your way if you will continue playing. And once again, that's another thing that makes the game so good.

And here's another feature waiting for you just over the horizon - exploring new planets and derelict ships. There are *plenty* of those wrecked ships *everywhere* just waiting for you to find the goodies inside.

The same goes for planets also.

I could probably easily write 4 or 5 pages here about what's ahead - and still forget to mention some things. Not only that but there are other NEW features being added every few months, things that I couldn't even begin to guess at. It's an on-going process.

Thanks for the advice. I purchased more fuel to keep playing, but then realized I can only get it delivered to the fuel depots during UK office hours. It is a fun game.

One aspect I never cared for in online games is that someone rich or in cheat mode could spend $1000 and have some great items. In this case a better ship, armor, fuel supply, settlements. I realize people still need the skill lvls to use these but they are shortcuts.

I will poke away at it. I'm turning lvl 5 shortly after I get my fuel, so I will finally be armed a tiny bit. Extractors sound the way to go.

I was offered tons of upgrades if I joined a guild, but have not responded as I would rather learn game first.

I will have 100 missiles with 30k python launcher and a 5 cargo holder upgrade.. big leagues now.

As with most things, experience IS the best teacher. And for any immediate question you might have at any moment don't forget the IIRC chat at the bottom of the screen. I've not yet seen a time when there wasn't a staff member or one or more highly-skilled players on there to help with ANY questions.

You'll get practically an immediate answer.

That was how I found out where to get my purchased fuel and that it wouldn't be available anytime soon. I forgot my mining lasers there..

Warcraft also has guilds and I started a adult only guild in there called "Clan of the Elders", so I get the concept, and my former guild is now lvl 25 (highest rank) and had close to 1000 members at one time. I am still unsure of my "commitment towards game", so will avoid guilds for now.

I did get an immediate answer with Help chat.

I will try to make my fuel last more sparingly now that I know it is limited. I saw it going down but thought i could fill up somewhere, and squandered some.

gl... I'd rather take apart pirate ships than mine.

    gratz on lvl 18 stryder.

Heh-heh! Yep, I get confused pretty badly trying to do *anything* at 2 am.

To the best of my recollection, the vast majority of the buttons reveal their functions with a mouse-over. What were you trying to do at the time?

If you are starting. They set you in Feris and the starbase there has a computer player (NPC) that gives you a tutorial.

Jonas Hawk at Starbase-51. He also loads you with cash, and gives you weapons before he's done with you. You need to dock with Jump Gates to travel. You cannot be attacked until lvl 10 so start using the bank then.

I am mentioning the tutorial NPC as Read-Only may not have had that in place when he began the game.
