not going to quote anything just going to state my observations.

orca is much much smater then the shark, course we are too but we dont have fins, hah, in any case, the orca is in a pod only because it is smart and family instincs. somone said the shark would win for the fact its used to hunting alone, however, if it were smarter it would have its own clan, pod, pride, group, ahhah, anyway, jsut think how vicious the orca would be if it were stranded out on its own with only his own intelect on survival,

my opinion is, the orca would eat a great whites lunch then save him for desert.

you come at me with a sharp knife, im grabbing a club, thats about the difference that could go either way but less chance the knife winning.

My wife and I just went to the new "Ocean Hall" at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. According to the tremendous volume of research that went into preparing those exhibits, the orca is acknowledged as the apex predator in the ocean.

The reason was pretty much what I said on my first post back in the early years of this thread: Given equivalent size and environment, warm-blooded air-breathing animals have more strength, energy and intelligence than cold-blooded gill-breathers.

Great whites might vary in size a little more than orcas, so it's conceivable that there is a 35-footer lurking out there somewhere that could give an 25-foot dolphin a run for the money. But that's not a fair comparison and in any case it's too much of an exception to be a valid basis for argument. Besides, orcas travel in pods so the lone shark would never get away alive.

There's a simple, concise and FACTUAL answer to this question. The Orca. There are known individuals of pods that are constantly researched, that have developed a taste for white shark. In fact there is actual video footage of a 30 foot female off the coast of California (I believe) attacking and DESTROYiNG a 15 white shark

I did read someplace that the ancient Orcas might have been the reason of the Carcharodon Megalodon extinction. The two species seems to have inhabited the same zones and maybe the ancient Orcas could feed on Megalodon juveniles, that would be of the same size of a modern great white. Anyway, it seems that there is a time relation between the earliest registers of Orcas with the extinction of the Megalodon.
Another interesting fact is that after the famous attack of a transient Orca to a big white, all the other sharks fled the zone for months and at least one, that was been monitorized, dived 500 meters deep during the attack.

Today it seems that it is commonly accepted that the transient Orcas feed on everything, including white sharks.

Orcas are the apex predators of the marine ecosystem. Of course sperm whales are bigger and unlike the baleen whales they are predatory. (I just don't see grazing on krill by gulping water and sifting it out through their baleen as "predation."

) But they're specialists who dive deep and hunt for squid, so they're not competitors with the orca--who happily eat their babies anyway.

Orcas eat seals, penguins, every warm-blooded marine predator. Well I don't know if they've ever tasted polar bear but that would be an interesting battle which I'm sure the smaller and less marine-adapted bear would lose. They'll eat any cold-blooded animal that comes their way.

That makes them the apex predator.

It is an eerie fact that orcas avoid pissing off humans. There have been few documented attacks throughout history; none were fatal and some may have been accidents or honest mistakes. (One tried to tip over an ice floe on which a human was driving a dogsled; the dogs barking may have sounded like seal calls.) Perhaps they're intelligent enough to realize that it is we who are the true apex predator, so if they treat us with respect we might leave them in peace.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but Great White shark are loners (more or less). Killer whales are a highly social mammalian species in a similar league with dolphins and other whales. Killer whales tend to work in teams, and actually communicate with one another. In fact - I'd say teamwork was probably their most powerful weapon......and if you want to talk "natural encounter", that's pretty much what you're going to get.

I kept reading all these "pound for pound" statements (who has the biggest size, sharpest teeth and whatnot) and a lot of those things are a bit pointless. It's similar to asking if 1 Pit Bull could defeat a pack of wolves.

All cetaceans appear to communicate by sound. We have not decoded enough of their sounds to determine whether they qualify as language, but the bottlenose dolphins in Sarasota Bay have individual names that they choose for themselves.

If orcas also have a rudimentary language, this makes them even more like us than we thought.
Making it even more amazing that they never eat humans, who are such easy pickin's. We're a pack-social species too, but we generally don't use teamwork in the water.
A coyote would be a better match. They're supremely adaptable, and hunt singly, in pairs or in packs as appropriate for their surroundings. They're not brave like wolves and seldom attack a carnivore large enough to put up a good fight, when there's so much free garbage lying around. But if one were attacked by a pitbull--a reasonable scenario given the breed's temperament--it would be quite a bloody battle.

And the answer would be no... A wolf pack is so much more overwhelming, a lone Pit Bull would be praying in the trenches...

Not to mention that wolves are more intelligent by an order of magnitude or so.

Have you ever been formally introduced to a wolf? If so, you have scars, but s/he was just playing...

My bf just doubted me when I was like killer whales have no natural predators..... He was a great white will drown whale I told him sharks cant breath while going backwards if this is true about sharks then orca knows shark weakness. Orca is social animal and can think of how different senerios will play out Im pretty sure sharks dont think like Orcas.
this is my first form posting

I love the shark and they have had lots of time to be the perfect great white shark. The sharks survival is maybe only instinctual I make lots og guesses sorry if wrong. Orcas must pass on the great white sharks weakness the orcas remember and do what they do best rule the sea. I've heard them be called the people of the sea. thanks for reading

yes pitbulls have (lockjaw attack) in references to Pokemon. Pitbull use lockjaw attack. I have no idea what a pitbull would be doing with a pack of wolves. If pit gets on back and puts tail between legs wolves will know its sort of same species. Im not sure about wild wolves but semi captive wolves wont attack teacup toy dog if dog shows same traits. surbmissiveness

The coyote is not going to fight a pitbull. Coyote knows injury can kill it I dont think pitbulls know that anyways. Coyote will outrun Im thinking most dogs. Not sure but cant coyotes run for longer periods than dogs. Come on look at dogs I love them but they are deformed and malipulated (pug)

Dog breed bulldog didnt they kill bulls by getting a tight grip on snout over nostrils. Bulldogs body short and heavy because they can take the bull swinging them side to side hitting the ground and still keep tight grip around bull. I think the bull is defenseless against this little bully breed. The dog was breed for killing bulls.

Lions do mess with elephants and kill baby elephants you gotta keep up. So many new video footage being filmed it is showing new stuff about animals we never knew. I hate watching baby elephants die. They are so cute.
